Patricia Planck Fries
- Executive
- Producer
- Writer
Planck Fries began her career at CBS San Diego and Television City at ABC in Los Angeles. She started in local news, became a special effects engineer, and then transitioned to working on many of ABC's network television shows.
Soon after departing from the networks, Planck Fries was offered a position in development and production, which began at Charles Fries Entertainment. She then helped establish a new company and IPO, focusing on bringing back beloved characters such as Casper and Richie Rich from Harvey Comics Entertainment for film and television.
Planck Fries decided to go her way and pursue her passion for developing harrowing stories and biopics for film and television. She acquired the rights and commissioned a screenplay for a biopic based on a well-known case from Project MK ULTRA, a CIA project involving human experiments. She also sought well-known and compelling intellectual properties for potential film or series adaptations, such as The Boy Who Saw True, and is currently back in development. She split her time between Los Angeles and the U.K. over several decades, creating content for the BBC and other U.K. organizations, eventually establishing a second home there.
2018, after deciding to return to her hometown of Santa Monica, CA, she founded Doodleflix Entertainment, closing her affiliated office in the U.K. The challenges of the COVID pandemic and the rise of the streaming world made her realize that streaming would eventually complement cinema and that cinema would return; however, Planck Fries emphasized in her work the importance of standing by a great story and script rather than relying solely on superheroes and adaptations to rebuild cinema and engage audiences.
In 2020, Fries was invited to participate as an Executive Producer for the award-winning documentary feature film "Pure Grit" by Irish groups Underground Films and Frontline Films. The film, produced by Rachel Lysaght and directed by Kim Bartley, won the Best Documentary Award at the 2021 Galway Film Fleadh in Ireland and the Best Editing Award at the Newport Beach Film Festival in 2022. It is set to be released theatrically in the United States.
