“Jersey Shore” star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is entering the true crime space with “Statute of Limitations,” TheWrap has exclusively learned.
Co-produced by FilmRise and Grinning Dog Entertainment, the series is described as a “light-hearted” take on the true crime genre. Hosted by Sorrentino, “Statute of Limitations” follows everyday people who have committed non-violent crimes where — title drop — the statute of limitations have passed, allowing them to speak openly about how they evaded the law. Watch the first trailer for the series above.
“This one-of-a-kind series features crimes openly discussed by people who ‘got away with it’ coupled together with series host Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino’s unique style of humor that brings a light heartedness to a normally dark genre,” FilmRise senior vice president of acquisitions and co-productions Max Einhorn said in a press release. “That combination along with Mike’s highly engaged global fan base will help deliver big audiences for the series.

Thanks to a recent bit, Nigel Ng has made some powerful enemies, but the Malaysian comedian’s contentious joke might help him sell tickets. The creator of the Uncle Roger character has been suspended on several Chinese social media platforms after sharing a clip from his upcoming Haiyaa Special, which will be available through digital events platform Moment.
The Haiyaa Special will present the jokes Ng told during his 2022 comedy tour, which brought Uncle Roger to 18 cities across the U.S. and Canada. In a trailer for the show, Ng dons his trademark orange shirt and delivers some edgy takes on Chinese censorship. “China, good country, good country,” Ng says, before looking askance and grimacing into the camera.
Ng’s digs at China struck a chord with his audience, but the targets of those jokes were not so amused. The Haiyaa Special trailer went viral, and shortly thereafter, Ng’s...

Exclusive: Channel 5 is on the brink of finding a new producer for its next Jane McDonald and Susan Calman shows. This follows owner Paramount Global’s decision to close the Viacom International Studios (Vis) UK unscripted division, revealed by Deadline last month.
Deadline understands that Daisybeck Studios, which makes some of Channel 5’s biggest hits including The Yorkshire Vet and Our Yorkshire Farm, is extremely close to taking on the work with two of the channel’s highest-profile presenters. Based in Leeds, eOne-owned Daisybeck is a trusted Channel 5 supplier that has made hundreds of hours of shows for the channel including many that focus on the outfit’s native Yorkshire.
The move comes as Paramount begins the process of apportioning dozens of hours of Vis’s factual programing to the UK indie sector.
McDonald’s next project is unknown but will likely be within her travelog wheelhouse. She...

As I watched the Oscar-nominated Everything Everywhere All at Once and every tired sigh of “hai-yah” uttered by its star, Michelle Yeoh, a shy smile spread across my face. It’s just so Malaysian. “Hai-yah”, we huff at any minor inconvenience. “Hai-yah,” we use in lieu of a “no problem”, or a “don’t say that”. It’s rare to hear it as part of everyday speech in a Hollywood blockbuster. It genuinely took me aback as I watched it in the cinema.
Intonations that usually appear in Asian accents are often exaggerated for effect on-screen. It’s a scream of “Haiii-yah!” while performing a martial arts move. Or the nasally “hai-yaaaah” schtick used by comedians like Nigel Ng when playing his YouTube character Uncle Roger. Most Asians are accustomed to hearing our accents being mocked. Even in Crazy Rich Asians, a 2018 romcom literally set in southeast Asia, Ken Jeong...
