- Oerd van Cuijlenborg (1973) is a dutch animation filmmaker. Oerd lives and works since 2006 in Paris, France. In his choice to do mostly semi-abstract animation he is greatly influenced by Norman McLaren, especially his film Begone Dull Care from 1949. After he graduated from art school in 1997 in painting at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht he got a scholarship at the NIAf (Netherlands Institute for Animation films) for two years and made two short films. His third film Zodiac he made at the Folimage Studios as an 'Artiste en Résidence'. In 2003 his work was exhibited as part of the "Animation en mouvement - le cinéma d'animation néerlandais aujourd'hui'' exhibition. For v e r s (School der Poëzie), van Cuijlenborg did a "La Linea-like animation'' (Trouw), based on a poem by Mustafa Sitou called ''Koppig''.
In 2010 he received for An Abstract Day the 'MovieSquad' (youth jury) HAFF Award 2010 en de 'Stimulans voor Succes' 2010 award. Thanks to the last one, in 2012 Oerd completed a nieuw project: a short film based on images scratched and drawn directly on to 16mm film, A Direct Film Farewell. He works as well on independent work as for commissioned work. His first feature experience he did for the documentary feature The State Against Mandela And The Others in 2018, for which he directed 40 minutes of animation that illustrated the real sounds of the trial against Nelson Mandela the co-accused.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Oerd
