Norman Twain, a prolific Broadway producer of the 1960s and ’70s whose Hollywood credits later included 1989’s Lean on Me starring Morgan Freeman, died August 6 following a brief illness. He was 85. A producer whose Broadway and off-Broadway career included stagings of plays by John Osborne, Anthony Creighton and John Guare, Twain moved to California in the 1970s. Long story short. Unlikely. And the principal reason? It was made to capture a movement in horror that has long since passed (note to fledgling filmmakers: Don't jumps on fads). Fangoria's Tony Timpone ran an Mia report (in a somewhat similar vein as our own ) looking at a few titles that are long overdue for release. One of those films that made the cut was Scar 3D , starring May 's Angela Bettis, which has opened nearly everywhere around the globe...except the U.S. Producer Norman Twain tells Timpone why: "The reason it never got released in America is threefold: First, it was a little ahead of the curve, and at the time it should have been released, there was, for that temporary window, the feeling that horror-torture was out. Hostel: Part II had just opened and...

Julian Richards, Wales’ prime movie export, has been stomping in the horror genre with bloody gusto for the last several years. Since completing The Last Horror Movie, a violent vérité serial-killer flick starring Kevin Howarth released Stateside as a Fango Video title, Richards has been busy dividing his time between his production company Prolific Films and sales outfit Jinga Films.
Summer Scars, a coming-of-age tale with a sinister, dark edge (also starring Howarth, pictured), won two Welsh BAFTA awards, received U.S. release last year and has a UK theatrical run scheduled for this coming June/July. Through Jinga, Richards has sold the Scottish lycanthropicture Wild Country to Lionsgate, the torture shocker Gnaw to Mpi (see item here) and the seriously creepy, well-crafted and very groovy supernatural slow-burner The Disappeared (see review here) to IFC. Richards has also directed Charles Dickens’S England, a feature-length documentary starring Sir Derek Jacobi,...

Parker Movie Out of Money
Sarah Jessica Parker's film Spinning Into Butter has suffered a "financial glitch" - leaving its cast and crew unpaid and furious. The Sex And The City star, who has given creative input to the project, was horrified to hear of the problem and is desperately trying to sort the situation out. Her spokeswoman says, "(Parker) was made aware of the situation over the holiday and she's very upset." The film's producer Norman Twain adds, "She's using whatever influence she can to get the situation taken care of. There has been a temporary financial glitch, but everything will be taken care of by the end of the week."...
