Exclusive: Channel 4 has abruptly cancelled its Four Weddings reboot in a move that has had the industry speculating over the state of the network’s finances amidst declining ad revenues and an economic downturn.
Deadline understands around two-dozen people were due to start production on Four Weddings shortly but were informed earlier this week that the show had been stood down, leaving the production team blindsided. ITV Studios-backed MultiStory Media was producing the reboot and it was commissioned several weeks ago, with production due to take place over the summer. Freelancers have instead been given a compensation package for a two-week notice period, we understand.
Four Weddings aired on Sky for four seasons around a decade ago and sold to several territories around the world including TLC in the U.S. The Come Dine with Me-style show follows four brides or grooms attending each other’s weddings, as they rate them on dress,...

Washington, Nov 12 (Ians) A TV documentary crew seeking the wreckage of a World War II-era aircraft has discovered an artefact from the destroyed space shuttle Challenger that killed seven astronauts aboard, including a school teacher, in 1986.
Divers noticed a large ‘human made’ object covered partially by sand on the seafloor.
The proximity to the Florida Space Coast in the US, along with the item’s modern construction and presence of 8-inch square tiles, led the documentary team to contact NASA, which confirmed the finding.
“While it has been nearly 37 years since seven daring and brave explorers lost their lives aboard Challenger, this tragedy will forever be seared in the collective memory of our country. For millions around the globe, myself included, January 28, 1986, still feels like yesterday,a said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson.
“This discovery gives us an opportunity to pause once again, to uplift the legacies of the seven pioneers we lost,...

Divers for a History Channel documentary on World War II-era ocean wrecks have instead found a large, long-missing piece of the space shuttle Challenger, which exploded and fell into the Atlantic Ocean 73 seconds after liftoff at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Jan. 28, 1986.
NASA confirmed the authenticity of the find today after viewing footage of the dive.
“While it has been nearly 37 years since seven daring and brave explorers lost their lives aboard Challenger, this tragedy will forever be seared in the collective memory of our country,” said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson in a statement. “For millions around the globe, myself included, Jan. 28, 1986, still feels like yesterday.
“This discovery,” he continued, “gives us an opportunity to pause once again, to uplift the legacies of the seven pioneers we lost, and to reflect on how this tragedy changed us. At NASA, the core value of safety is – and must forever remain – our top priority,...

The tragedies began July 5 with a 911 call, alleging that a man in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, had brandished a gun while selling CDs outside of a convenience store. Alton Sterling was a genial father of five known as "CD Man," a fixture who sold music outside the Triple S Mart to support his family. Although he'd served time for illegal gun possession, the store owner said Sterling, 37, had a gun on him to protect against robbery when responding officers pinned him to the ground and then fatally shot him at close range. A deadly three days in America was under way.

The following recap, by the very definition of the word “recap,” contains spoilers from the Season 5 premiere of ABC’s Castle.
Worth the wait, Castle fans?
After 139 days and the “occasional” piece of reporting from yours truly, Season 5 of the ABC drama arrived Monday night, and the first order of business was a bit of monkey business — until, that is, mama Martha came a-knocking, bring to a halt what would have been, by Rick’s count, “Round 4.”
We then got some terrific physical comedy from Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic, as Beckett most begrudgingly hid in Castle’s closet, and...

Ballast is quiet. It is reserved and contemplative. It’s well-paced, emotionally restrained and ultimately everything a major Hollywood film is not. It received nominations for the Independent Spirit Awards, won awards for directing and cinematography at Sundance and earned several other notable honors. And it finally comes to DVD and Blu-ray courtesy of Kino International after doing the festival circuit for the better parts of 2008 and 2009. Ballast takes place in the Mississippi Delta. The film opens with a visit from a neighbor to the home of Lawrence (Michael J. Smith), only to find that a man lies dead in the other bedroom, and Lawrence’s response is nothing but silence. Lawrence has a gun, and affected by untold events, puts the gun to his own chest and attempts to commit suicide, to no avail. Shortly after returning home from hospital, he is robbed at gunpoint by a boy. He...

Ballast Directed by: Lance Hammer Cast: Michael J. Smith Sr., JimMyron Ross, Tarra Riggs Running Time: 1 hr 35 mins Rating: Not rated Plot: A man's sudden suicide affects the lives of the three people whom considered him a brother, husband, and an uncle. (For those who don't know, "ballast" is defined as dead weight that provides a certain degree of steadiness). Who’s It For? The dramatic film's pacing, abrupt editing, lack of soundtrack and general emptiness cater to the art-house crowd. Like other independent films, Ballast demands its viewers' patience and requires the watcher to voluntarily want to explore its subtexts. Expectations: Ballast had a lot of buzz at the Chicago International Film Festival. On top of that, it has already won two awards at the Sundance Film Festival, and is up for four nominations at the Gotham Independent Film Awards ... so yes, I was exicted.

Getting a jump on everybody else, the Gotham Independent Film Awards have already released their nominations for 2008 honors, and I assume, based on the name, that Batman is charged with keeping the names of the winners safe and secure until the envelopes are opened.
If you only go to the movies five or six times a year and just to check out the blockbusters, these titles won't mean anything to you. If you follow independent film, you'll probably say to yourself, "Damn it! When can I see that?"
These awards don't predict much when it comes to the Oscars, but there are usually a couple of smaller films to keep an eye on later in the year, and the Gotham Awards highlight quite a few of those possibilities. There aren't individual acting awards, other than a breakthrough award, but Gotham, like virtually every award not named the Academy Awards, has an ensemble honor.

Ifp has announced the nominees for the 2008 Gotham Independent Film Awards (formerly known as just the Gotham Awards), and just by virtue of nod count, Ballast is the big winner with nominations in four categories:Best Feature, Breakthrough Director (Lance Hammer), Breakthrough Performance (Michael J. Smith) and Ensemble Performance. Also very exciting: Barry Jenkins will compete against Hammer in the Director category for Medicine for Melancholy; Sita Sings the Blues, one of my Tribeca 2008 favorites, will compete against Tom Quinn's The New Year Parade and SXSW winner <a hre ...
