Longmire will get a proper sendoff.
Netflix announced today a sixth and final season for the series based on the Walt Longmire series of books by Craig Johnson.
The final season will consist of 10 episodes and air sometime in 2017.
First airing on A&E, the series was off the air quite a while as long-time fans sent angry messages about pulling the show.
Longmire was getting decent ratings when it last aired on a traditional cable network, and fans voices went unheard.
Or so they thought.
That's where Netflix came in and saved that day. It was the success of Longmire on Netflix and being saved from destruction that has helped so many fans make the appeal to Netflix when their now-favorite shows are on the chopping block.
What they have to remember, however, is that Longmire came with the goods: cast, writing, viewers were all well above standard.

The third season release of Major Crimes is hitting May 26th, and I’ve got your opportunity to win one of three copies of the DVD!
The show, a spin-off of The Closer, has been doing well since it premiered, and the third season was the #3 scripted drama on basic cable.
Moreover, despite not kicking off all that well, it’s a show that has grown into itself, and found a more solid base of existence. The quality has grown in many respects, and the cases were far more interesting in the third season.
Mary McDonnell seems more comfortable, due in large part to the writing giving her a broader base of character to work with.
If you aren’t caught up, now is the perfect chance to get ready for the fourth season.

The TV world is always wild, and some of the cable networks are still figuring out exactly what it is they’re trying to get out of shows, as they attempt to appeal to whatever demographic they have decided is “theirs,” but the cancellation of Longmire was a shock to a lot of people.
That’s especially true when you consider the ratings it was getting.
Of course, saner heads prevailed, and the show was picked up by Netflix. The last word I head on it was that production is meant to start in March.
At any rate, the show is a great one, and stood out during its three season run as one that was trying to set its own mark.
The third season release is headed your way, and you want to mark your calendar for this one. It isn’t exactly loaded with special features, but it hardly matters with this show.

It took awhile but A&E and Warner Horizon finally closed a deal for a 10-episode third season of the network’s most-watched drama series ever, Longmire. The announcement comes after Longmire executive producer John Coveny tweeted back in August, shortly after the series’ second-season finale: “The call just came: Season 3 for #Longmire is a Go!.” In its second season, Longmire averaged 3.7 million total viewers with the season finale episode August 26 delivering a season high of 4.4 million total viewers. “Longmire has become one of the most compelling dramas on television with a devoted audience and we are so proud of the show,” said A&E Gm David McKillop. Longmire, a contemporary crime thriller set in Big Sky country, is based on the Walt Longmire Mystery novels by author Craig Johnson. The series stars Australian actor Robert Taylor as Longmire, the charismatic, dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyo, along with Katee Sackhoff,...

The Season 4 debut of Glades was watched by 3.3 million viewers Monday at 9 Pm. That’s up 6% for the scripted drama over its Season 3 debut on June 3 last year. However, Glades was down in adults 18-49 and adults 25-54, getting 904,000 viewers in the 18-49 compared to 1.1 million for Season 3′s debut. In 25-54, Glades Season 4 premiere slid from 1.4 million to 1 million. The second A&E season premiere of the night saw Longmire back for Season 2. The Wyoming-based crime drama bopped up 5% from its freshman-season debut with 4.3 million viewers, rising 12% in both 18-49 and 25-52 over its June 3 series premiere. The Glades is produced by Fox Television Studios with Innuendo Productions’ Clifton Campbell and Grand Productions’ Gary Randall as EPs.

Ray Richmond is contributing to Deadline’s TCA coverage. At a late Friday afternoon panel session promoting A&E’s forthcoming summertime western saga Longmire, the question was asked as to whether the success of FX’s Justified perhaps smoothed the path wheels for Longmire to see the light of primetime. Exec producer John Covony answered succinctly: “The short answer is no.” Why not? “Well, in Hollywood, some ideas are gestating as others are coming to life.” He added that while he’s happy that Justified “helped to make people think about westerns,” he made the point that Justified star Timothy Olyphant and Longmire lead Robert Taylor were quite different in both style and substantive approach to their roles. Exec producer Greer Shephard went further, suggesting that Olyphant’s character “is a man tortured and driven by demons” while Taylor’s is defined by “love and loyalty.” She also doesn...

While not truly a graphic or violent show (comparatively speaking), Nip/Tuck is nevertheless a show that not only pushed boundaries, but helped demonstrate the effectiveness of the broader narrative possibilities available to cable network television. The six seasons of the show delivered an outstanding variety of situations, both by way of the clients, and the doctors, and delved into the entire spectrum of the plastic surgery game.
The final season may have gone a little haywire at times, but it still had an ability to pull the pieces together, and overall the show stands above most. While many may be put off by the entire theory of exploring those seeking a bit more beauty by going under the knife, and the doctors who aid their effort, the show never failed to put its own subject matter on the back burner. Like any good show, the description only provides an...

Writer Michael Oates Palmer has set up a dramedy at ABC Studios and a comedic drama at FX in addition to a drama he has in the works at Epix. As part of a blind script with ABC Studios, Palmer will write an untitled project loosely based on the New Zealand series Go Girls. ABC Studios and ABC first took a stab at adapting the series, from the creator of another popular New Zealand show that found its way to American television via ABC, Outrageous Fortune aka Scoundrels, last season with writer Liz Tuccillo. Palmer is working on the project with producer Julia Franz in a partnership grandfathered in before she left ABC Studios in September to join Jamie Tarses at her Sony-based Fanfare. Palmer's adaptation of Go Girls is described as an hourlong relationship dramedy about a single man and his three single female friends, all in their early-mid 30s,...

TNT’s hit series The Closer has been looked upon for a potential spin-off. The network has decided to further milk the successful cop drama by getting creator and executive producer James Duff to spawn a new series based on The Closer, which stars Kyra Sedgewick as Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, a skilled detective and officer at the Priority Homicide Division of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The yet-untitled spin-off is currently code named The Fixer, and is being co-written by The Closer co-executive producer Adam Belanoff and Michael Berchem. However, it is still unclear whether the spin-off will focus on an existing Closer character, or an entirely different individual. Nonetheless, TNT confirmed that they have ordered a script, without disclosing any more details. Additionally, Greer Shephard and Michael Robin will executively produce the yet-untitled new show.

The biggest drama on cable is eyeing a spinoff.
The forces behind TNT's "The Closer," including creator/executive producer James Duff, are working on a spinoff from the hit cop drama starring Kyra Sedgwick.
TNT confirmed that it has handed out a script order for the spinoff but declined comment on other details.
"Closer" stars Sedgwick as a deputy police chief who has a love-hate relationship with junk food. It's unclear whether the untitled spinoff -- referred to in industry circles as "The Fixer" -- would focus on an existing "Closer" character or an altogether new one.
Like "Closer," the spinoff hails from Warner Bros. Television and the Shephard/Robin Co.
Duff is co-writing the story with "Closer" co-executive producer Adam Belanoff and Michael Berchem. Duff and Belanoff will co-write the script and also executive produce with Michael M. Robin and Greer Shephard.

"The Closer" executive producers Greer Shephard and Michael Robin are expanding their business with TNT with another drama project.
The network is close to a pilot order for "Truth In Advertising", written by "Closer" writer/producers Hunt Baldwin and John Coveny.
Set in the fast-paced world of advertising, "Truth in Advertising" explores the culture of selling (and being sold) through the experiences of the bright, funny, ambitious -- and crazed -- young men and women who work at the Rothman, Greene and Mohr advertising agency.
The pilot is produced by Warner Horizon TV and the Shephard/Robin Co. with Baldwin, Coveny, Shephard and Robin executive producing.
Robin is also on board to direct.
The pickup for "Truth In Advertising" comes on the heels of TNT giving the green light to another pilot, the William H. Macy-starring quirky drama "Family Man".

Under the pact, the producing duo behind the hit dramas "Nip/Tuck" on FX and "The Closer" on TNT will continue to develop and produce series projects for the studio through their Shephard/Robin Co.
"Greer and Mike are the embodiment of both creativity and resourcefulness, a much-coveted combination of qualities in our business," said WBTV president Peter Roth, who also oversees Warner Horizon TV. "We're thrilled to continue our long-standing association with this extraordinarily talented team."
Through their partnership with WBTV, Shephard and Robin led the studio's successful foray into cable series with "Nip/Tuck," which has been picked up for a fifth season, and "Closer", which is returning for a third season in the summer.
The two are now major players at Warner Horizon TV, the new division devoted to lower-cost cable TV and reality programming that WBTV launched last spring.

PASADENA -- Lifetime Television has given a series pickup to State of Mind, a drama starring Lili Taylor set to debut in the summer.
In addition, Kirstie Alley is set to star in and executive produce the Lifetime original movie And She Was, also set to premiere in the summer. Lifetime Entertainment Services president of entertainment Susanne Daniels made the announcements Thursday during the network's portion of the Television Critics Assn. press tour at the Ritz-Carlton Huntington Hotel.
State of Mind, from Warner Horizon Television and executive producers Greer Shephard and Michael Robin, is described as a quirky, comedic drama series about a brilliant take-charge therapist (Taylor) whose personal problems rival those of her eclectic and offbeat patients.
"Lili's character is imminently relatable, and we know our viewers will instantly connect with her," Daniels said.
The show's ensemble cast also includes Derek Riddell, Mido Hamada, Kevin Chamberlin, Lolita Davidovich and Devon Gummersall.
The pilot, directed by Robin, was written by author and practicing psychotherapist Amy Bloom. The show is produced by Shephard/Robin Prods. in association with Warner Horizon.
The series becomes the second new drama to be ordered by Daniels for 2007, after Army Wives, which is now set to debut in June instead of March for competitive reasons as well as to allow more time to properly launch the show.

Greer Shephard and Michael M. Robin are staying put at Warner Bros. Television. The producing duo behind FX's Golden Globe-winning drama Nip/Tuck and TNT's breakout hit The Closer, has signed a new three-year overall deal with the studio, where they have been based since mid-2001. Although the Shephard/Robin Co. and WBTV partnership produced the well-received but short-lived ABC legal drama The D.A., it is in cable -- an area in which WBTV had not been very active -- that Shephard and Robin have found great success, first with Ryan Murphy's hit plastic surgery drama Nip/Tuck, which returns for a third season in the fall, and most recently with The Closer.
FX Networks has signed Nip/Tuck creator/executive producer Ryan Murphy for another two seasons. The deal will take Murphy through the show's third and fourth seasons, along with his fellow executive producers Greer Shephard and Michael M. Robin. "We're thrilled to announce that the entire showrunning team ... has now signed on for 'Nip/Tuck's' third and fourth seasons," FX entertainment president John Landgraf said Tuesday during the Fox Cable Networks portion of the Television Critics Assn. winter press tour at the Universal City Hilton. FX has ordered 15 episodes for the third season, which is set to begin airing in late summer or early fall.
