TORONTO -- Canadian cablecaster Shaw Communications Inc. shuffled its senior management Wednesday, naming Mike Abram president of direct-broadcast-satellite service Star Choice Communications Inc. Abram will continue to serve as well as president of Shaw Ventures Inc., the investment arm of Shaw Communications, Canada's second-largest cablecaster with equity investments in broadband technologies and products. Brad Shaw, currently senior vp operations at Star Choice, was named senior vp operations for the company's cable arm Shaw Cablesystems. He replaces Bill MacDonald, who will retire Nov. 30 after 21 years at Shaw Communications. Shaw Communications said this week that it had bought cable systems in Alberta and British Columbia from rival Monarch Cablesystems Ltd. as part of a cash-and-stock deal valued at about CAN$90 million ($65.8 million).
