- Had a son named Alex with director Conrad Rooks.
- In July 1968 she became a Buddhist, changed her name to Anila Thubten Chang Chub Palmo and moved into a monastery outside of Katmandu, Nepal. She would die there in 1973, supposedly from either peritonitis or from accidentally eating a poisonous plant. Her body was cremated.
- Zina's mother Harriet Strauss was the daughter of American millionaire Simon W. Strauss (owner of Ambassador Hotel). Her father's sister, other Zinaida Rachevskaya, married the exiled Grand Duke Boris Vladimirovich of Russia.
