Hollywood can be a tough place for young actors and actresses, and the seeming benefit or advantage of nepotism isn’t always what outsiders might make it out to be. Such is the case for Kristopher Van Varenberg, the 24-year-old son of notoriously limber action star Jean-Claude Van Damme and Gladys Portugues, an ex-bodybuilder and fitness competitor. Mixing action roles and bit parts in movies alongside his dad with character work in other films — including two new After Dark Films releases, “Dragon Eyes” and “Philly Kid,” debuting this week – the friendly and candid Van Varenberg is out to leave his own mark in the entertainment business. Jean-claude Van Damme's wife Gladys Portugues is campaigning to fulfil the action star's greatest dream - to land a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Van Damme walked along the famous Los Angeles landmark when he was a young wannabe and fantasised about the day his name would be among the greats.
Portugues is desperate to see the Bloodsport star receive the sidewalk honour while he's still alive, insisting the tribute is "so long overdue".
Appearing on reality show Jean Claude Van Damme: Behind Closed Doors, she explains, "It all started way back in the '80s. I was very pregnant with (son) Kristopher. Jc and I would walk on the Walk of Fame at all hours of the night. You can walk here till three in the morning - you see the stars and you see so many people and so much life.
"We always used to look at the stars and kind of reminisce. We even put our handprints over Bruce Lee's, for example, and I did Marilyn Monroe's.
"He's accomplished his dream with his acting and being in movies but his biggest dream yet - it needs to be accomplished and it will be accomplished - is a star on the Walk of Fame.
"It's something that is so long overdue for him and he so deserves it and I do hope that he gets it one day while he's alive. I tell you, the day he gets one, I will be in tears. I'll make sure I wear no mascara, no make-up, no nothing."...

Jean-claude Van Damme is still haunted by his adulterous past, insisting he hasn't forgiven himself for leaving his wife Gladys.
The action man met actress and former bodybuilder Gladys Portugues when they were both in their early 20s and they fell madly in love before tying the knot in 1987.
But the Bloodsport star left Portugues after launching a movie career and finding fame in Hollywood - a decision he regrets to this day.
The pair reconciled and remarried in 1999, but he still hasn't forgiven himself for betraying her.
In his Jean Claude Van Damme: Behind Closed Doors TV show, the Belgian actor explains, "This woman (has) been with me for years, when I was a nobody. When I was driving a taxi and I stole food in the market because I didn't have any money. I even stole my first birth test (to) find out if she was pregnant with (son) Kristopher in her tummy. Then I left this woman because I did go on the Hollywood lifestyle. I didn't know the jewel I was having.
"I am so happy that Gladys forgave me for my mistakes. (She is) close to being perfect to me. Believe me, I'm so happy. I am blessed. But me, I didn't forgive myself yet. I did not. I am living with that problem with my heart. I'm living with the scar. I want to take the scars away."...

Update: Jean-Claude Van Damme has addressed reports that he suffered a heart attack on the set of his new movie 'Weapon,' writing the following on his Facebook page: "Hours ago, I read a rumor online about me suffering a heart attack. Please do not believe all what you read from rumors on any unofficial Jcvd sites. Yesterday, the iconic Muscles from Brussels -- Jean-Claude Van Damme -- celebrated his 50th birthday. Just one day later, reports have surfaced that the action star has suffered a heart attack while filming his latest action fest, 'Weapon.'
Twitch reports that the Ernie Barbarash film was shooting in Romania before heading to New Orleans for three days of filming, but the production was quickly put on hold due to "complications." The complication was that Van Damme suffered a minor heart attack before shooting his scenes. Everything halted, while his wife, Gladys Portugues, quickly joined him and, thankfully, it looks like the '80s action star will make a full recovery.
'Weapon' focuses on rival assassins who form an "uneasy alliance" to take down a DEA-backed drug cartel. Just to make things more interesting, each assassin is a master of a certain weapon.

Jean Claude Van Damme–the “Muscles from Brussels”–is about to become a reality TV star. In America, we will likely see him on A&E.
He’s arrived in Cannes, is staying on a yacht, and has brought his 20ish son Kristopher van Varenberg as Creative Director. Tomorrow, on the Apache, he’s throwing a cocktail party to announce that he’s going to become the next Ozzy Osbourne or Gene Simmons. Why not?
Van Damme is already an international star. There should be a lot of interest in seeing him as he gets ready for an October fight with Somluck Kamsing, the 1996 Olympic gold medalist in boxing. (The joke, of course, is that Van Damme will need “some luck” to beat this guy. Ha, ha.)
There was a lot of buzz about British firm ITV doing this deal with Van Damme last winter. But now...
