- Bassist for the rock band The Cars. Also swapped lead vocals with member Ric Ocasek.
- Sang lead vocals on many of The Cars' biggest hits, including "Just What I Needed", "Let's Go", "Moving in Stereo", and their biggest hit "Drive".
- One of The Cars' two DVDs feature his final interview, done just months before his death. In the interview, his weakened condition is very apparent. He hardly even speaks in the interview.
- Following his sudden death, he was interred at Saint Patrick Cemetery in Thompson, Geauga County, Ohio.
- Posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (as a member of The Cars) (2018).
- Ben is connected to the original Top Gun in that his voice is singing The Car's song Stranger Eyes that plays in the trailer (not the film).
- Although he and Ric Ocasek sound very similar, having been in two bands together before The Cars (the folksy Milkwood and more rocking Cap'n Swing), Ben's voice is far more melodic, rich-sounding and more of a vibrant and genuine singing voice compared to Ric's subtler, laid-back approach, where he sounds often like he's speaking the lyrics.
- Ric Ocasek's song Silver was dedicated to Ben.
- His father was an immigrant from present day Ukraine and his mother was Carpatho-Rusyn from present day Kojsov, Slovakia.
