He was a page at NBC's affiliate in Washington DC while he was in high school, and began writing jokes for Johnny Carson and Joan Rivers. He attended Fordham University in New York City, where he got a job as a writer on PBS' "The Electric Company." The following year, he moved to Los Angeles to get into prime-time TV.
