Pedro Mourão(I)

Pedro was born on December 14th, 1990, in Lisbon, Portugal. He is the son of Ana Reis, a sign language interpreter, and Pedro Mourão (Sr.), a manager. He has three siblings, one older and two younger. Pedro is deaf since birth and grew up in APECDA, a deaf school in Lisbon. After graduating from high school, he went on two different universities, Computer Engineering in Instituto Superior Técnico and Law in NOVA School of Law but didn't manage to end the studies due to lack of accessibility. Afterward, Pedro started studying Portuguese Sign Language at Escola Superior de Educação (Coimbra).
In 2016, Pedro had his first experience in associativism upon invitation to the vice presidency of the Portuguese League of Sports for Deaf for two years. He quickly got noticed and managed to be the Chef de Mission for Portugal in Deaflympics 2017, Samsun, Turkey, on behalf of the Portugal Paralympic Committee. In the next year, he began his first mandate as President of the National Commission of Deaf Youth in Portugal, while taking part in the European Union of the Deaf Youth as a trainer and H3 Network Media Alliance as a writer.
In 2020, he works at the Portuguese Association of the Deaf, the first Deaf Association in Portugal, as the 17th President, being responsible for its restructuring while facing the challenges COVID-19 brought to the Portuguese deaf community.
Pedro, as a Deaf person with identity and culture, is fluent in Portuguese Sign Language, Portuguese language (both oral and writing), English, and International Sign.
