César Meneghetti is a Italo-Brazilian filmmaker and visual artist. His
work is centered on social issues, migration and the concept of
borders, political, social and individual edges, the interaction with
people and media between the North and South hemispheres. He has a
cross-media work between cinema and visual arts, using film, video,
photography, painting and installation. He has shown his work in more
than 40 countries and has made about 60 films and videos, including a
fiction feature film, 5 documentaries, 88 short films and experimental
videos. In the last 20 years he had received over 60 awards, prizes and
scholarships for his work, among them from the Ministry of Culture of
Brazil, Funarte Contemporary Art Prize 2011, Premio Brasil Arte
Contemporanea from São Paulo International Biennial (2010), best art
video at the IV Washington Inter-American Video Art Biennial (2009), 2
Nastro d'Argento awards (Italian cinema critics and journalists prize,
1996+2004), 2 Petrobras Cultural Prizes for digital media (2002+2006).
Among his films: "2984" Fuji Film Award (1990) and "Punti Di Vista"
special prize at Nastri D'Argento 1997. In 1998 he had his debut
directing the feature "Interferenze" 51st Festival Internazionale del
film di Locarno. From 2001 he shots and produces together with
Elisabetta Pandimiglio several short and documentaries: "A Sud Del Sud"
(Grand Prix Sony Switzerland winner); and "Senza Terra / Sem Terra /
Landless" selected in 76 festivals worldwide and 22 prizes winner). In
April 2002, Nanni Moretti as producer invited them to shoot a new
documentary Zappaterra "the Sacher Diaries" series, previewed at the
55th Locarno International Film Festival. In 2002 he shot the short
"Cachorro Louco" (Petrobras Cultural Prize) about the motorcycle
couriers in São Paulo and the full length documentary "Motoboy" and in
2003 he made "Romevideo" (best digital work Festival Arcipelago 2004).
In 2004 they released "Soccer Dreams" (Sogni Di Cuoio, 77 min. 35mm) in
the Italian cinema circuit. In 2005 "Wrong way" (awarded best work on
precarious labor), in 2006 "Taccone fuga in salita" (best documentary
Levante Film Festival and Festival Scrittura e immagine), in 2007 he
made the first version of "Le's Terras di Nadie" and in 2008
"Terrorista" (Petrobras Cultural Prize and best documentary at Vitoria
Cine Video Festival). In 2009 he finishes "L'incontro" and 2010 "The
Rimet Trophy, the incredible story of the world cup" and in 2012
"Turning points / Svolte", a special event at Venice-Days - 69th Venice
Film festival. César Meneghetti also worked in the past as Art
director, Screenwriter, Ngo's film consultant, Editor and Director for
TV, Institutional and Psa's works.
