TORONTO -- Canadian broadcaster CanWest Global Communications Corp. on Wednesday proposed the appointment of two new independent directors for its boardroom, Toronto Blue Jays CEO Paul Godfrey and Toronto law professor Ronald Daniels. The appointment proposals were made by newly-appointed CanWest Global chairman Frank McKenna, who filled a post left vacant by the recent death of company founder and controlling shareholder Israel "Izzy" Asper. "Paul Godfrey and Ron Daniels will each bring unique and complementary skills, as well as vast experience, to CanWest's board, and we look forward to their wise counsel," McKenna said in a statement.
