This year’s 79th Annual Golden Globes awards ceremony wasn’t televised or livestreamed, and has never been seen by anyone other than those in attendance for the show on Jan. 9 at the Beverly Hilton. Until now.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has shared with Variety three excerpts from the 2022 ceremony, which opened with HFPA president Helen Hoehne and featured representatives from educational and philanthropic organizations — recepients of grants from the org — as presenters. Despite the lack of any at-home audiences, the show was still produced with the sheen of a full-fledged telecast, as directed by Patricia Lowry and produced by Neil Mandt, Michael Mandt and Matthew Brady.
The Mandt brothers, whose credits include “Jim Rome is Burning” and “Destination Truth,” spoke to the Golden Globes website about the show: “This is certainly a unique year,” Michael Mandt told the org. “We knew the challenges given the timing considering the world’s Covid situation,...

One major criticism against Disney’s Million Dollar Arm is that it should have focused on the two Indian characters, Dinesh Patel and Rinku Singh (portrayed by Suraj Sharma and Madhur Mittal), rather than white sports agent J.B. Bernstein (Jon Hamm). After all, the real story there is that two young foreigners won a reality show and in turn experienced the American Dream by coming to the U.S. and signing to a major league baseball organization. Focusing on Bernstein has the stink of the “White Man’s Burden” trope, as if he’s a hero for discovering and then saving them from a life of poverty more than they’re heroes on their own for being talented — and, yes, lucky to a degree, but mostly for their own athletic achievement. If only there was a documentary version. As I looked into the making of Million Dollar Arm it made me even more disappointed that one...

Creators: Michael Mandt, Neil Mandt. Cast: Josh Gates, Gabriel Copeland and Mike Morrell. After four seasons of looking for cryptids and spooks in the series "Destination Truth," Josh Gates sometimes comes close to making a revelation that will amuse his fans. While such paranormal-reality programs hardly ever find definitive proof positive of what lurks deep in the jungles, or late at night in some mystic ruin, the amusement viewers get from this program — especially from this lead’s antics — is what keeps this particular series going. Nearly everyone knows that the episodes are made to tease and tantalize. Gates knows how to work the crowd. Now that this series is in its fifth season, this cadre of adventure seekers has some new legends from all over the world to pursue. Quite often, the evidence Gate's team finds are of the arboreal and nocturnal persuasion rather than anything else. In the...

PASADENA -- Sci Fi Channel has given the green light to a new globe-trekking adventure series titled Destination Truth.
The six-episode weekly reality show features Josh Gates, described as a world adventurer and "eager truth-seeker," visiting a different destination every week with his small crew of production buddies. Each destination is said to be home to supernatural, mysterious stories -- such as the Fire Worm of Mongolia and the Chilean Chupacabra -- that Gates will set out to either prove or debunk by talking to witnesses and experts and immersing himself in the local culture.
The hourlong series is executive produced by Neil and Michael Mandt for their Mandt Bros. Prods., whose credits include ESPN's "Beg, Borrow & Deal" and Jim Rome Is Burning, Pax's Speed Dating and E! Entertainment Television's My Crazy Life. The Mandt brothers were repped by Rebel Entertainment Partners and attorney Todd Stern in the Truth deal.
Truth is in production for a second-quarter premiere. Sci Fi had originally said that the show was in development as part of an overall slate unveiled in April.
