I'll confess to seriously mixed feelings about "the gay channel" Logo's recent reliance on cheaper-to-produce reality TV shows, at the clear expense of enjoyable, but much more expensive-to-mount scripted shows like Noah's Arc and (especially) Rick and Steve the Happiest Gay Couple in All the World.
Sure, RuPaul's Drag Race was deservedly a big hit (and The Robert Verdi Show was a gem, but under-appreciated, mostly because people missed the satire). But I was mostly underwhelmed by the RuPaul spin-off Drag U and the flower-arranging show The Arrangement. As for The A-List: New York ... well, don't get me started.
But Logo (which owns AfterElton.com) has another potential hit on their hands with The Setup Squad, premiering April 25th at 11:30 Pm, at least based on the first episode, provided to us by the channel.

Next month, Logo (AfterElton.com's parent company) is premiering a new docu-reality series that should be of interest to our readers. It's called Setup Squad and follows Wings, Inc., a New York dating agency that provides professional wingmen (and women) to help those unfortunate souls who suck at dating. People like Tim, as you can see from this sneak peek from the show.

Yeah, Tim definitely needs some help in the dating department. Where is the gay Barney Stinson when you need him?
Wings is owned by Renee Lee, a "dating expert" (whatever that means exactly. She's been on a lot of dates? Hey, I'm an expert too!) and her pool of wingmen/women. You already saw Lauretta in the clip above, but I suspect it is Jonathan who will be of most interest. Jonathan is from the south, attended the University of Florida where he studied musical theater and history,...

With the enormous success of RuPaul's Drag Race, and the enormous ... attention ... that The A-List: New York has received, Logo (our parent company) has given the go-ahead for three new original shows premiering in 2011.
Below are the details and show descriptions from the press release about each show. We'll post more information as it becomes available.
The first season of Be Good Johnny Weir (which was originally seen on Sundance and premieres on Logo in Winter 2011) delivers an absorbing portrait of an Olympic athlete whose personality is as big as his talent. Bright, quick-witted and extroverted, Weir is as comfortable walking in a downtown New York fashion show as he is on the ice, and he is known for giving candid, irreverent, responses at press events. At the same time, Weir has the athletic prowess to back up his pop culture stardom, demonstrating both breathtaking grace and supreme technical skill.
