German author and archivist, best known for his series of novels called
"Deutsche Chronik" ("German Chronicle") and the monumental collection
of autobiographies, reports and other documents by World War II
witnesses, "Echolot".
As he was accused of spying for the US military, he was imprisoned for
8 years in East Germany.
