- Dav Kaufman is a multiple award-winning filmmaker, and a critically acclaimed writer. His novel, Lake Desire (Crotalus Publishing, 2003) has received several critical accolades.
His works in non-fiction have been highlighted in the coffee table book North: Stories and Photographs (Crotalus Publishing, 2004). His photographs and writings have also been featured in several magazines including Reptiles Magazine, Boundary Waters Journal and Rise Magazine.
Dav is also known as one of the founders of the hit festival, the Wild River Music, Comedy & Film Festival held in St. Paul, Minnesota September 6-10, 2006. The diverse festival featured over thirty music acts including Al Green as the music headliner. A host of local comedians and over fifty independent films from around the world also rounded out the festival's schedule. Dav's s feature film debut, 13 Hours in a Warehouse has not only won the prestigious Gold Remi Award, and won "Best Horror Film" at the 2008 Indie Spirit Film Festival. - Began spelling his name without the "e" in sixth grade as a way to distinguish himself from the other Daves in his classroom. It is spelled with a long "a" accent over the "a", but most keyboards and fonts can't support it.
- In 1998, he almost lost his life fighting poachers on a protected sea turtle nesting beach in Costa Rica. He and his fellow conservationists were outnumbered by the poachers by almost ten-to-one. The machete and pistol armed poachers trapped the conservationists in the ruins of the research facility they burnt down three weeks earlier. The siege lasted almost six hours before the federal police came and held off the poachers long enough for them to escape.
