We begin this week on "Alcatraz" with former guard Guy Hastings (Jim Parrack) in his former quarters on Alcatraz. He has opened a spot in the baseboard that contains a gun and old photographs. A park ranger, whom he beats to death, surprises Hastings. Hastings replaces the baseboard and leaves the island. Rebecca Madsen (Sarah Jones) is sharing a meal with her uncle, Ray Archer (Robert Forster). She is asking him questions about her grandfather, Tommy Madsen (David Hoflin). Ray gives her a photograph of himself as Tommy as children. She gets a call and has to leave. Madsen, Diego (Jorge Garcia) and Hauser (Sam Neill) meet at the guard's quarters, and where they learn their latest returnee is a guard. Madsen notices blood by the baseboard, and opens it. She finds two gun clips, and they ...

Alcatraz: Sarah Jones Talks Buried Secrets and What's in Store for the Season
Alcatraz isn't even halfway through its first season, but the mysteries are already piling up. More specifically, how did the prisoners disappear in 1963 and reappear in present day San Francisco? Why is Rebecca's grandfather, Tommy Madsen, so important to what happened back at the prison? And how was Luci alive back in 1963 and then also appearing in present day without aging?
Sarah Jones took some time to talk with us about what's going to happen with Rebecca's family connections to the prison, how the '63s will continue to be the central mystery for the show, and whether Hauser will open up to Rebecca.
Rebecca's Family Drama. The Madsen family has been an important part of Alcatraz since the pilot, when Rebecca learned that her grandfather, Tommy, was a prisoner at Alcatraz and...

With last week’s episode of _Alcatraz_, “Guy Hastings," the show took a turn from the formulaic nature the show has taken of adding a new villain, catching him, then having a few minutes at the end of the show’s basic mythology. With this week, “Paxton Petty," the show returns to that formula, and is lacking because of it.

Alcatraz 1.05 "Guy Hastings" Recap - A Guarded Matter
Alcatraz continues its first season with tonight’s fifth episode “Guy Hastings,” as Detective Rebecca Madsen (Sarah Jones), Dr. Diego Soto (Jorge Garcia) and Emerson Hauser (Sam Neill) race against time to find a former Alcatraz prison guard (True Blood's Jim Parrack) with ties to Rebecca's grandfather and her still-living foster father Ray Archer (Robert Forster).
If you didn't get a chance to check it out for yourself, read on for our Alcatraz recap of "Guy Hastings”!
In 2012 Alcatraz, Guy Hastings overlooks the dilapidated state of his former apartment, ripping off a hidden panel to find photos of his family from the past. When a current Alcatraz guard finds him trespassing, Guy knocks him unconscious, takes a gun from the same compartment, and stops to observe his daughter’s height markings etched into the wall. Flashing back to the 60’s, he watches...

In Alcatraz’s premiere, we were given a look at how Rebecca Madsen’s life seemed to be intertwined with the inhabitants of Alcatraz. Her grandfather Tommy was imprisoned for killing her grandmother and the man that played a sort of adopted uncle to her, Ray, was a guard at the prison. We haven’t seen these two men in the present since the first episode, but in “Guy Hastings”, we are given a deeper look at how Madsen’s family tree links to the mystery of people from the past showing up in the future.

After four inmates in a row from the '36s opened up the series, Guy Hastings represented the first decent man to come back on "Alcatraz" (Mon., 9 p.m. Est on Fox). In doing so he not only revealed a little of the experiences the returnees went through, but he also helped Rebecca make a startling realization about the man who practically raise her, her surrogate uncle Ray.
It turns out he's a lot more than surrogate. In the pilot, she realized that the man who killed her partner was her grandfather Tommy Madsen, also a '36. By the end of the hour, she'd learned that Tommy and Ray had been brothers, making Ray her family for real. Why he'd never told this wasn't explored, as Ray spent most of the hour held hostage by Hastings.

Alcatraz continued to wade knee deep in mystery mystery, and more mystery this week.
"Guy Hastings" took a varied approach to the returnee inmates from the prison by actually back one of the disappeared guards.
Thankfully, the flashbacks incorporated a sense of who Guy Hastings was as a person (a good guy following the rules of the system), while also allowing some insight into Rebecca Madsen's familial connections to the infamous jail.
Not only was her grandfather a prisoner there, but he had a brother who happened to be a guard. Oh yes, Ray Archer is Rebecca's great uncle.
Perhaps what's more interesting is that Ray was originally approached by Emerson Hauser 16 years earlier to help him. Of course, that means he's known that Tommy Madsen has been back all this time. But does he know why?
Either way, there's a definite animosity between the two brothers. Time has not been good for their relationship.

Finally, an Alcatraz guard has returned!
In this week's episode of Alcatraz, prison guard Guy Hastings (True Blood's Jim Parrack) appeared in the present day with one mission: Hunt down Tommy Madsen (David Hoflin). Hastings enlists — Ok, kidnaps — former guard Ray Archer (Robert Forster) to help find Tommy. But wait, Archer is actually Rebecca's great uncle? Because Tommy and Ray are really... brothers!? That's just one of the new mysteries that Alcatraz introduced this week. Let's take a look at the others:

In support of tonight’s new episode, we have two different kinds of videos for you: a TV spot, and a really fun and interesting featurette about historical Alcatraz, narrated by Jorge Garcia as Diego “Doc” Soto, an Alcatraz expert and comic book store owner. Enjoy!

In a move that bodes well for Alcatraz, but less well for House's chances of landing on the Fox schedule again this fall, the network has revamped its March lineup.
Alcatraz Promo: "Guy Hastings"
Hugh Laurie and company have been removed entirely next month in order to make room for one week of twice the Alcatraz; and two weeks of an Alcatraz/Touch pairing, as Fox likely wants to see how these two rate together before making any decisions for 2012-2013.
Here is a look at the new schedule:
Monday, March 5
8:00/7:00c - Alcatraz (Back-to-Back Episodes)
Monday, March 12
8:00/7:00c - Alcatraz (New Time Period)
9:00/8:00c - Touch (Encore of Pilot)
Monday, March 19
8:00/7:00c - Alcatraz
9:00/8:00c - Touch (Season Premiere)
Monday, March 26
8:00/7:00c - Alcatraz (Season Finale)
9:00/8:00c - Touch
Mondays (as of April 2)
