- Harvey is Chickasaw Indian on his mothers' side.
- In 1920 Harvey was born to Frank and Frannie(Thomas) Harvey in Ford City, Pennsylvania, in 1924 the family moved to Sulphur, Oklahoma, where his mother was raised. Eleven years later they relocated to Oklahoma City where Harvey graduated high school in 1939.
- Raymond Harvey enlisted in the US Army on August 16, 1939. Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Awards include the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, three Silver Star, three Bronze Stars, three Purple Hearts, ten Campaign stars, two Presidential Unit Citations, French Croix de Guerre with Palm and the South Korean Chungmu Medal(3rd Class of the Order of Military Merit), a Combat Infantry Badge and additional medals. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1962 and is buried at: Section 6 Site 8360-B L, Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, DC, USA.
