Tucked into the official logline of Andrew Haigh’s heartbreaking “All of Us Strangers” are plenty of intriguing ideas. Mainly, there’s the revelation that Harry’s (played by Andrew Scott) parents are long dead by the time the film opens, and begin appearing to him three decades after they passed away. So stars Claire Foy and Jamie Bell, known simply as “Mum” and “Dad” in the film, are, what? Ghosts? Memories made corporeal? Dreams?
For Foy, those big questions weren’t the most thrilling part of the film. Instead, it was the chance to dive so deeply into a character that, even more than a year since the end of production — the film shot in the summer of 2022 in the UK — she can still conjure up intensely personal alternate realities for a woman literally bound in time.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Frasier revival Season 1 finale “Reindeer Games.”] Everything that could go wrong did go wrong at Frasier’s (Kelsey Grammer) Christmas party: too many trees and too few chairs, over-whisked eggnog, an elementary school quartet, and a live goose. But the Frasier season finale also featured a very welcome return in Peri Gilpin as Roz, just when Frasier needed the boost the most. But this wasn’t the original story that the executive producers, Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli, had planned for her. For that and more inside scoop, read below. This finale had some really sweet moments while remembering Martin, from the dancing Santa to Frasier’s “I really miss you” to the toast. Talk about taking the time for that the way you did, especially because “I really miss you” was such a quiet, perfect moment. Chris Harris: Yeah, it’s one of the great advantages of being on Paramount+ is ...

The "Frasier" revival show has wrapped up its Paramount+ run with a Christmas installment that, at times, manages to recapture the "Frasier" magic which has mostly eluded the series thus far. Earlier episodes have provided significant nostalgia hits by giving us a touching tribute to the late Martin actor John Mahoney, and a special guest appearance from Bebe Neuwirth as Frasier's ex-wife Lilith. But showrunners Joe Cristali and Chris Harris have saved the best for last.
The tenth and final episode of the new series, "Reindeer Games," not only sees the writers try their hand at a classic "Frasier" farce, it also features the return of Peri Gilpin as Roz, Frasier's former radio producer from the original series. Not content with just one major nostalgia hit, the episode also opens with the titular doctor sitting mournfully among his late father's Christmas decorations, which feature two specific items that appeared in previous "Frasier" episodes.

Kelsey Grammer has returned to television as the iconic Dr. Frasier Crane, roughly 30 years after the original NBC sitcom first premiered. The Paramount+ revival sees the titular character return to Boston for the next chapter of his life, with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge and an old dream or two to finally fulfill.
In addition to Grammer, the show’s cast includes Jack Cutmore-Scott as Frasier’s son Freddy, Nicholas Lyndhurst as Frasier’s old college buddy turned university professor Alan, Toks Olagundoye as Olivia, Alan’s colleague and head of the university’s psychology department, Jess Salgueiro as Freddy’s roommate Eve and Anders Keith as Frasier’s nephew David.
Co-showrunners Joe Cristalli and Chris Harris told TheWrap that, while there are multiple Easter Eggs and references sprinkled throughout the series, they didn’t want to rely on them as a crutch.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Frasier Episode 7, “Freddy’s Birthday.”] All Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott) wants to do is enjoy his birthday, which of course means not having his parents in the same room. Unfortunately, what happens is both Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) and Lilith (Bebe Neuwirth) attend his party. Chaos, of course, ensues. “What an honor” to bring that relationship back onscreen, Frasier executive producer Chris Harris tells TV Insider. “I was a teenager watching these two on TV, and so most of the time, we were just pinching ourselves and amazed we get to continue their story.” It all begins when Frasier sees Freddy at the bar and incorrectly thinks he’s on a date, until he sees Lilith at the table. They worked backwards from that moment, executive producer Joe Cristalli shares. Frasier “just falling backwards gasping was such a funny moment that we broke that we kind of worked from there, but it also made...

The neither disappointing nor remarkable "Frasier" revival show has arrived on Paramount+ without any of the supporting cast from the original sitcom. Star Kelsey Grammer and new writers Joe Cristali and Chris Harris were initially intent on bringing back as many actors as they could for their reboot, but pretty much all of them either said no or weren't available. Still, Grammer and co. pressed ahead anyway, producing a show that has flashes of the original's brilliance, but as it goes on, increasingly reveals that, sans his former compatriots, Frasier Crane isn't quite as delightful a character as he once was.
One of the most important elements missing from the new series is David Hyde Pierce's Niles, Frasier's brother, who provided an equally pompous banter partner for the titular doctor throughout the original's 11-season run. Together, Frasier and Niles would deliver some of the show's most hilarious and witty dialogue,...

The latest episode of Paramount+’s “Frasier,” entitled “Blind Date,” followed as Kelsey Grammer’s titular character competed with his son Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott) for the affections of a woman named June (June Diane Raphael) in a 22-page-long scene.
Director Kelly Park told TheWrap that filming the sequence was “one of the highlights” of her career.
“It really allowed me to prove to myself that I am a technical director,” she said. “Kelsey Grammer was wonderful because he collaborated with me and was with me all the way. It was really divine… they just let me play, let me create, and allowed me to delve into what Frasier used to be and bring it back home.”
But directing a multi-camera comedy in front of a live studio audience is no easy feat.

What made the original "Frasier" series so good? It's a question we at /Film have been feverishly searching for answers to in light of Paramount+'s release of the "Frasier" revival, which is quite mixed, if it's the original series you're holding it to as a standard. There aren't as many jokes per minute, the understanding of its central character isn't always perfect, and they're only just figuring out which elements from the original series were okay to discard, and which needed to be in the mix for the cake to come out tasty.
One of the shakier aspects of this calculus has been the revival's handling of its character dynamics. This is a fully defensible area of weakness -- character dynamics are both the hardest aspect of sitcoms to iron out and the singular aspect that makes them soar or sink. Opinions vary, but if you ask for mine,...

Of all the guest stars we want to see in the "Frasier" reboot, Bebe Neuwirth's Dr. Lilith Sternin isn't the highest on our list. But that doesn't mean we won't welcome the return of Frasier's ex-wife, who throughout both "Cheers" and "Frasier" made for some memorable storylines and jokes. Frankly, the new "Frasier" is neither disappointing nor remarkable thus far, and continues to suffer due to its lack of the original supporting cast. Which is why a Lilith episode wouldn't be the worst thing.
The character first debuted in the 1986 "Cheers" episode "Second Time Around" where she went on a date with the good doctor. Much like how Frasier was intended to be a one-and-done character but was brought back after his initial run of episodes, Lilith then returned to "Cheers" as a regular cast member, marrying Frasier and giving birth to their son, Freddy, in the 1989 episode "The Stork Brings a Crane.

The "Frasier" revival series might take place in an entirely different city than its predecessor and feature none of the original cast, but it hasn't forgotten its roots. In the very first episode of the new show, which recently launched on Paramount+, Frasier can be seen poking fun at "Cheers" — the show on which his character first debuted all the way back in 1984. That same episode also pays heartwarming tribute to John Mahoney, who played Frasier's father Martin Crane in the original sitcom that ran from 1993 to 2004. We'll also be seeing Roz actress Peri Gilpin return to the show at some point in the near future.
And that's not the end of the references to Frasier's past. In fact, the revival does an admirable job of linking itself to the previous incarnation despite only Kelsey Grammer returning from the original show. When Frasier first arrives in Boston, he's flanked by his nephew,...

Frasier Crane is back on our screens in a "Frasier" revival that's neither disappointing nor remarkable. The new show is in the unfortunate position of having to revive one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time without any of the supporting cast that made it such a hit during its original 1993-2004 run. The only cast member returning from the original sitcom is Kelsey Grammer himself — which, if you ask the "Frasier" star, isn't a bad thing as he is, after all, the key to the success of the show.
Sadly, that hasn't necessarily played out thus far, as the revival show manages to keep much of the humor and heart that defined the original but still somehow fails to capture its magic. After a heartwarming tribute to Martin Crane actor John Mahoney in the inaugural episode, "Frasier" 2023 sort of limps on while demonstrating flashes of the brilliance that...

The creators of the “Frasier” revival didn’t just have to rewrite the opening jingle about tossed salads and scrambled eggs: They had to toss out the original premise.
“Frasier” on Paramount+ was originally supposed to follow the titular psychiatrist Dr. Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) and his brother, fellow therapist Niles (David Hyde Pierce), opening a theater together. However, after Pierce opted to not reprise his role for the revival, the series’ premise pivoted.
“For a long time, the idea was that Frasier and Niles were going to run a black-box theater, like how they bought that restaurant and brought it back to life,” series co-writer Joe Cristalli told Vulture. “But it’s hard for Frasier and Niles to run the theater when you don’t have Niles, so we had to step back from that.”

Frasier Crane is back in our lives as of October 12, when a revival featuring the return of Kelsey Grammer’s iconic character debuts on Paramount+.
IndieWire’s TV critic Ben Travers gave the revival series a “C” grade, writing, “Hearkening back to its broadcast roots, episodes are recorded in front of a live, studio audience, yet they run 26-29 minutes a piece, exhibiting the same streaming bloat that can slowly sink comedies. Good rapport surfaces on occasion, usually between Frasier and Alan, but most of the jokes are loud and obvious, broad and forced. When Frasier isn’t on screen, the show feels like a below-average sitcom — there’s no hook to it, nothing that makes these characters spring to life like Niles, Martin, and Daphne did decades ago.

The first two episodes of Frasier are now streaming on Paramount+. Beyond Kelsey Grammer as the titular character, there aren’t a lot of familiar faces in the sequel series. That will change as the season progresses, with both Lilith (Bebe Neuwirth) and Roz (Peri Gilpin) set to make appearances, but might we see the return of any Og Cheers characters in Frasier?
Frasier showrunners Joe Cristalli and Chris Harris recently spoke with Variety about developing the new series and their position on bringing in characters from Cheers or Frasier beyond Lilith and Roz.
“It feels like maybe we haven’t earned that yet,” Cristalli said. “Any more than that in Season 1 probably would have been a bit too far. But like I can’t wait to bring back Bb Glaser or Gil or Bulldog. Niles, if he’ll do it, or Daphne. Anybody that wants to would be great.

In Paramount+’s “Frasier” reboot, Kelsey Grammer’s iconic character has returned to Boston for his next chapter, as he looks to reconnect with his son Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott).
The move finds the psychiatrist and former radio show host leave behind many beloved characters from the original NBC sitcom, including his brother Niles (David Hyde Pierce). Earlier this year, Pierce revealed that he would not be reprising the role, which showrunners Chris Harris (“How I Met Your Mother”) and Joe Cristalli (“Life in Pieces”) admitted was “a tough setback in the moment, but ultimately very freeing.”
“It let us build the show more organically from the ground up, focusing more on Frasier and Freddie’s relationship,” Harris told TheWrap. “The flip side of that is we don’t have several of the beloved characters that the original series had.”

Tonight, the doctor is in again as Kelsey Grammer returns to the small screen as Frasier Crane in the Paramount+ comedy Frasier. The sequel series, with an almost entirely new cast, will drop the first two episodes of Season 1 at midnight Pt.
The titular character made his television debut in Season 3 of NBC’s Emmy-winning series Cheers, which aired originally in 1984. When Cheers concluded in 1993, Frasier moved to Seattle and his story continued in the eponymous spinoff series. Grammer will come full circle in Season 1 of the Paramount+ series as his character returns to Boston, the city where it all began for him, and where the bar where everybody knows your name is located.
For a third time as part of the Cheers-verse, Grammer reunited with renowned TV producer and director James Burrows. Burrows co-created Cheers alongside Glen and Les Charles and also directed multiple episodes of the Og Frasier.

As revival/reboot/sequel/whatever-we’re-calling-these-now go, Paramount+’s Frasier isn’t awful. The new series neither tries too hard to pretend nothing’s changed, nor strains to reinvent itself for the modern era. It’s good for an occasional chuckle — mostly thanks to Kelsey Grammer, who still wears the title character comfortably all these years later — and here and there for a nostalgic sigh.
But if there’s nothing in the new Frasier that’s painfully bad, there’s not much about it that’s especially exciting or interesting, either. Forget trying to live up to Frasier 1.0; with its mild jokes, forgettable characters and uninspired storylines, Frasier 2.0 barely makes any impression at all. It’s a franchise extension that primarily feels like just that — a franchise extension, rather than a worthwhile creative endeavor in its own right.

Joe Cristalli and Chris Harris, the showrunners behind Paramount+’s “Frasier” revival, have been bracing for how audiences react to the return of the beloved sitcom character. But they weren’t expecting the buzz to be about Frasier Crane’s wardrobe.
When Paramount+ revealed the key art for the new “Frasier,” which premieres Oct. 12, fans were up in arms … because the character was wearing jeans and Allbirds sneakers. Sure, the dressed-down look might be out of step for the Frasier Crane we knew on “Cheers” or the original “Frasier.” But this is “Frasier” 3.0.
“We love that people care,” Harris says. “It’s partly the times and it is also a little bit about how the character is more comfortable with who he is and where he is in life.” Adds Cristalli: “He’s not going to wear Armani suits anymore. It’s 2023. This is what fancy rich guys wear now — they wear comfortable clothes!

Every true “Frasier” fan knows that kitchens are soundproof havens for covert plotting. Whenever Frasier, Martin, Niles, or Daphne needed the rest of the family to help them convince guests that they were Jewish, gay, married, single, or an entirely different person, they’d craft an excuse to sidebar in the kitchen. And despite the apartment’s open floor plan, nobody ever caught a peep of the screaming matches that ensued while plating Camembert.
So it’s fitting that the first episode of the new Paramount+ revival features plenty of kitchen scheming. When Kelsey Grammer’s Frasier Crane attempts to reconnect with his adult son Freddy (now played by Jack Cutmore-Scott), an impromptu dinner party at his Boston apartment quickly devolves into a game of telephone.

Plot: Filmed in front of a live studio audience at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, the new series follows Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) in the next chapter of his life as he returns to Boston with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge and an old dream or two to finally fulfill. Frasier has re-entered the building!
Review: Few actors have been able to successfully take a character from an iconic television series into an equally iconic spin-off. Aside from Bob Odenkirk’s Better Call Saul spinning from Breaking Bad or Sherman Helmsley taking The Jeffersons from All in the Family, Kelsey Grammer’s acclaimed performance as Dr. Frasier Crane went from a supporting role in the eleven-season run of Cheers to the eleven-season run of Frasier. Now, Grammer is bringing back his psychiatrist-turned-radio host to Boston from Seattle (by way of Chicago) for a new iteration of Frasier.

Frasier is back.
Actually, Dr. Frasier Crane is so unobtrusively back in the Paramount+ revival debuting on October 12 that it’s truly as if Kelsey Grammer’s pompous and often hilarious psychiatrist character never left — truly.
In an industry awash with alternative timelines as plot points almost as much as it is with creatively barren reboots and reunions, perhaps it would be better to peg the Frasier revival not as something new at all, but neither something old. Perhaps a more crystalline perspective would be to view this Frasier as simply the charmingly chugging along 30th season of the beloved and acclaimed Cheers spinoff.

There’s a joke in the fourth episode of the Paramount+ revival of Frasier that is not the worst to be found in this new take on Kelsey Grammer’s famous psychiatrist Frasier Crane, because there are unfortunately a lot of bad ones to choose from. But it typifies the biggest problem the new show has.
Frasier has joined his new Harvard colleagues Alan (Nicholas Lyndhurst) and Olivia (Toks Olagundoye) for a night of bar trivia, competing against a team of firefighters led by Frasier’s son, Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott). At one point,...

God bless British Andrew Haigh, whose best films — “Weekend,” “45 Years,” and now the quietly shattering “All of Us Strangers” — are the rare work of a modern director who knows how to get out of their own way. Haigh’s simple but penetrating dramas couldn’t be more specific in how they depict the strangeness of intimacy and the intimacy of strangeness, and yet they’re also palpably unfilled in a way, like a half-empty room that someone you were looking for just left. In that light, it should come as little surprise that Haigh is so well-suited to an ineffably personal ghost story about the absences that can shape our entire lives if we let them.

The Sundance Film Festival is known for bringing quirky indie stories to the silver screen, and the year 2023 is no different. Charlotte Regan’s Scrapper introduces a darling feature film with personality and heart in spades. A simple, yet sincere father-daughter story is further elevated by grounded performances that feel thoroughly genuine.

Freddie Flintoff is reportedly putting his TV career “on hold” following his horrific car crash in December on the set of Top Gear.
Last month, the cricketer-turned-presenter was airlifted to hospital after crashing while filming a car review at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome, home of the Top Gear test track.
Now, new reports have claimed that Flintoff – real name Andrew – is lying low professionally after his family “begged” him to stop work while he recovered from the accident.
The Sun reports that the former England player, who shares four children with wife Rachael, has come to terms with the fact that he “could have been killed” in the accident and needs months off to recover.
“The full extent of his injuries will surprise many people, as the details of what happened have yet to fully emerge,” a source told the publication.

The casting process is well underway on the upcoming Paramount+ sequel series to the acclaimed sitcom "Frasier." After many years of gestation and development, Kelsey Grammer will once again reprise his role as the psychiatrist-turned-radio-personality that first appeared at the Boston bar where everyone knows your name in "Cheers." Although, this time he will be in a whole new city with its own set of adventures and obstacles waiting for the good doctor.
Of course, Dr. Crane won't be alone in his new ventures. Recently, we learned that Nicholas Lyndhurst will play Frasier's "British, boozy, and larger than life" college chum Alan Cornwall. And though original cast members like David Hyde Pearce or Jane Leeves aren't expected to return for the revival at this time, a familiar character from the original series will be making a comeback in the form of Lilith and Frasier's son, Frederick. Now an adult, he will be played by "Tenet,...

I suppose if Top Gear were a car it would be powered by a frenetic three-cylinder engine. It would be supercharged and turbocharged, still with plenty of go, though misfiring at times. It would have a slightly weary superstructure, suffering from a little metal fatigue and the odd spot of corrosion. Nothing serious, you understand, but in need of attention.
So the first of the latest series (its 33rd) is very much the typical formula, with all its strengths and weaknesses. The lucky trio of presenters – Freddie Flintoff, Chris Harris and Paddy McGuinness – get to explore the car culture of Thailand, which is just as fascinating as you’d expect. Funnily enough, I reviewed the new Isuzu D-Max pick-up myself recently – a tidy enough drive for a diesel commercial vehicle – but never dreamt it could be raced and rallied with quite the aplomb it clearly is in the beautiful jungles of Indochina.
