- Handsome, amiable-looking radio and film singer/actor of the 1930s and 1940s.
- A familiar voice on early 1930s radio and in scores of programs, including "Blue Monday Jamboree," "Feminine Fancies," "Happy-Go-Lucky" and "Hodge Podge Lodge".
- Signed with RKO in 1935 but received nothing but a couple of unbilled parts in Old Man Rhythm (1935) and To Beat the Band (1935) during that time.
- Asthma kept him from serving in the military. He was subsequently forced to retire from performing for the most part in 1944 due to ill health, but did perform in a St. Louis Muni Opera production of "Hit the Deck" in 1948. He died from a heart ailment at age 38.
- Won a national radio competition in 1931 and found plentiful work following his win. As a result he also found work in nightclubs, concerts, operettas, etc.
- Signed with Fox for films after he was seen starring in the musical "By Jupiter" on Broadway in 1942. He was given the lead in a non-singing "B" movie Ladies of Washington (1944) co-starring Trudy Marshall. The movie came and went quickly and he was let go. Returned to Broadway for his last "Dream With Music" (1944) with Vera Zorina.
- Met his first wife comedienne Edna O'Keefe while working at the KFRC radio station. They were handed their own series: "Horace and Helen, The Married Pair". His second wife was Broadway actress Florence Sundstrom.
- Attended Tamalpais High School and later studied singing at the University of California.
- Made his Broadway bow in the musical "Virginia" in 1937 and continued successfully with sturdy baritone leads in "The Boys from Syracuse" (1938), "Du Barry Was a Lady" (1939), "The Lady Comes Across" (1942) and "By Jupiter" (1942). Later played Gaylord Ravenal in "Show Boat" at the St. Louis Muni Opera.
- Was born Maurice Graham in Scotland. His father was an English army officer. The family moved to the San Francisco/Mill Valley area of California when he was still quite young.
- Introduced Cole Porter's song, "Do I Love You" in the 1939 Broadway musical, DuBarry Was a Lady.
