- Was a popular jazz disc jockey for KKGO-FM in Los Angeles for 21 years until August 1989, when illness forced him to leave the air.
- Harlem-born jazz singer Carmen McRae said of him, "I loved him so very much because he had such great taste in music. He was very good to me, for which I'm completely grateful. Every time I saw him, he made me feel good, like when he'd come into the club and talk for a second. He was such a decent human being, a sweet person and I'm going to miss him like hell." Comic actor Pat Morita, Mr. Miyagi of The Karate Kid films, knew Gosa from performing on the jazz club circuit in the 1950's and 1960's and said of him, "Hey, he was the samurai of the jocks. If he had a sword in his hand, he'd make it swing. I was an enormous admirer of his work and his sound and his presence, and I was very fortunate to have been able to count Jim in my personal little circle of friends. He was a one of a kind.".
- A broadcasting major at Los Angeles City College, he earned his radio reputation at L.A. jazz radio station KBCA, which later became KKGO. A judge at jazz festivals, he broadcast the Monterey Jazz Festival to Los Angeles for over a decade and hosted "Jazz Chronicles.". He also loved acting and appeared in film and television, as well as at the Shakespeare Festival at Chapman College every summer.
- Shortly before his death, he graduated from law school at The University of Los Angeles and worked for attorney David Grey. He then married fellow KKGO broadcaster Laura Lee.
