Alan Freeman was born on July 6, 1927 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. He was an actor and producer, known for Absolute Beginners (1986), The Young Ones (1982) and Sebastian (1968). He died on November 27, 2006 in Twickenham, Middlesex, England, UK.
He was nicknamed "Fluff" because of a favourite jumper which he wore
until it was covered in fluff balls and made him look like a
sheep.
The Black Sabbath instrumental "Fluff", from the album "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" is a tribute to Alan Freeman, who'd used the group's song "Laguna Sunrise" as the intro for his radio show.
He was awarded the C.B.E. (Commander of the British Empire) in 1998.
Presented with the Music Industry Trusts' Award in 1996 for his
outstanding contribution to the British music industry.
Received a lifetime award at the Sony Radio Awards in 2000.
