Matt here… With the raunchy teen mystery Kaboom out in UK cinemas on Friday, our very own Michael Edwards sat down with the Mysterious Skin director to talk about sex, cinema and how much Owf’s Simon Gallagher loves him. Actually I was with Simon in Cannes last year when the movie played to an unexpected crowd and the audience was just with it all the way as it descended further and further into Gregg Araki’s unique form of madness. No other screening during that festival would bring about as much discussion as Kaboom.
It’s a movie definitely worth catching as it’s quite unlike anything you’ve ever seen before…
Owf: Could you tell us a bit about how the project got started?
Gregg Araki: I really wanted to make a movie that was completely outside the box because there’s really no movies made like ‘Kaboom’ anymore.

A founding member of rock band Electric Light Orchestra was killed on Friday, September 3 in a freak accident with a giant runaway bale of hay. Cellist Mike Edwards died instantly after the 1,320-pound bale came tumbling down a steep hill and onto the van he was driving through Devon, England. The bale is believed to have fallen from a tractor working nearby.
Edwards swerved into another vehicle as he was struck but the other driver was uninjured in the crash. Now authorities are reaching out to the 62 year old's relatives to help with their investigation and formally identify the musician.
Sergeant Steve Walker of the Devon and Cornwall police says, "This was a tragic accident and we have now identified the victim as Michael Edwards, a founder member of Elo. We have used photographs and YouTube footage to identify him but we now need help contacting his family for formal identification.

Excerpt: What’s happening next in your life? A few things, I’ve got a film called Wild Target [Rupert plays an assassin's apprentice] coming out next month. It was good fun playing with the guns and stuff. And you’re going to play Eddie the Eagle [British ski-jumping record holder]…can you even ski? I’ve never skied in my life so it’s going to be interesting. That will be quite fun I think, it’ll be cool.
