Blood and gore is a familiar trope in grabbing viewers’ attention. However, some television scenes go beyond just shallow violence, instead tactfully crafting truly haunting moments that are difficult to shake for years after.
“Twin Peaks,” Bob Crawling Toward Camera Within a still shot of a rosy living room, body-inhabiting spirit Bob, in the form of a scraggly-haired man, scrambles over the couch and heads straight to the camera. The fade-to-black moments that mimic blinking as well as Bob’s menacing gaze make it seem as if he means to lunge through the TV and at the viewer.
“Hannibal,” The Human Mural In a show filled with images of grotesquely mutilated figures and mandolined human flesh, the most haunting visual comes in the shape of a fractal-like arrangement of naked bodies – uncharacteristically bloodless but nauseating nevertheless. From above, the giant, lifeless sculpture resembles the dappled pigmentation of a human iris,...

The Middle Star Patricia Heaton Urges Everyone to Donate Blood in Las Vegas to Help Shooting Victims
Patricia Heaton is encouraging those who wish to help out following the deadly mass shooting in Las Vegas on Sunday to donate blood.
“Everybody still feels helpless, and I think the best thing to do is to go give blood right now, because I think they need it, there’s so many wounded, and if you want to feel like you’re going to make a difference and be a part of it in a positive way, I guess that’s the best thing to do,” Heaton, 59, tells People Now.
Adds The Middle star, “It’s just a terrible, terrible tragedy.

Answering the call for blood donors, hundreds of people are forming long lines outside Las Vegas donation centers to help the more than 500 people wounded in Sunday night’s mass shooting, which claimed the lives of at least 59 people.
Like the crowds that turned out and stood for hours in Orlando after the June 2016 mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub that killed 49 and wounded dozens of others, residents and visitors to Las Vegas quickly found their way to centers that authorities identified as collection sites for urgent donations.

You can officially add Olympic golf to the list of Rio disasters. Out of a total 60 male golfers invited to compete in the Olympics, 21 players including the top four in the world — Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy — have officially dropped out of the event, according to CBS Sports. “It’s certainly disappointing that we’ve had so many withdrawals on the men’s side, and wonderful that all of the women have been very supportive,” International Golf Federation President Peter Dawson said at a press conference on Monday. “There is no doubt that the number of withdrawals hasn’t shed.

It's not that hard to believe that it's been 25 years since the release of "Heathers," on March 31, 1989.
Really, the movie seems like an artifact from a different era, one paradoxically bolder than our own. It's hard to imagine a movie getting made today that makes fun of teen suicide, schoolhouse violence, and the public grieving process that follows both. "Heathers"'s gleefully gruesome satire made stars out of Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, and Shannen Doherty, launched the careers of screenwriter Daniel Waters and director Michael Lehmann, and created the mold for subversive schoolgirl comedies to come, from "Clueless" to "Mean Girls."
"Heathers" wasn't a hit at first, but it eventually became such a huge cult success that it made lunchroom polls and lines like "What's your damage?" into pop-culture fixtures. Still, as many times as you've seen it, there's still much you may not know about "Heathers," from which other...

Fans will not be stopped from heckling Tiger Woods at the St Andrews Open, organisers have said. The world number one is expected to compete at the event with the ambition of winning it a third time, while some 200,000 spectators watch. However, the head of The Open has said that as long as comments do not intrude on play, fans will not be prevented from heckling Woods. Peter Dawson, R&A chief executive, told The Mirror: "People can say what they like, but if they start putting players off then we will have something to say about it." He added: "The marshals (more)...
