- He suffered severe head injuries in a car crash on the M5 motorway on 3 October 1992. He was not expected to survive but made a miraculous recovery.

When a new stand was built obscuring his sight of the pitch he simply purchased the penthouse flat in the same block thereby restoring his fine - and free view.
- Made his stage debut as the 3rd watchman in Much Ado About Nothing at Regents Park Open Air Theatre, The other 2 watchmen were played by Andrew Gardner, who became an ITN newsreader, and Henry McGee.
