He served in the English Royal Navy during the Second World War - after
which he emigrated to Australia in 1946.
A very popular comic actor, Gordon Chater is well-known for his work on
radio, television and in the theatre, he received the Macquarie Award
for comedy performance in radio in 1952.
He was awarded the A.M. (Member of the Order of Australia) in the 1999 Queen's New Years Honours List for his services to the Arts as an Actor, and to the Welfare of the Artistic Community through the Actors' Benevolent Fund.
