Knighted in 1968, following United's European Cup victory.

Managerial career: Manchester United FC Manager 1945-1969, 1971; Director
1971-1982; President 1980-1994 (his death).
He was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 1958 Queen's Birthday Honours List and made a Knight Bachelor in the 1968 Queen's Birthday Honours List for his services to Association Football.
