British newcomer Andrew Garfield has landed one of the leads in United Artists ensemble drama "Lions for Lambs".
The Robert Redford-directed film marks theater maven Garfield's feature film debut, in which he will appear opposite co-stars Redford, Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep.
Based on a screenplay by Matthew Michael Carnahan, the story features three interconnected plotlines: a congressman who interacts with a journalist; an idealistic professor who attempts to inspire a privileged student in his class; and a pair of American soldiers wounded in enemy territory in Afghanistan, one of whom is the professor's former student.
Andrew Hauptman, Carnahan, Tracy Falco and Redford are producing. MGM will distribute the film worldwide.
Garfield recently was tapped most promising newcomer at the Critics Circle Theatre Awards and outstanding newcomer at the Evening Standard Awards for his work at the Royal National Theatre.
He is repped by the Collective and Kate Bryden of Gordon French in the U.K.
