one of the longest-running songs in the chart's history.
"Wilderness", her fourth album, was released on her own label rather than by
Sony/Columbia, which distributed her first three. She spent $300,000 of her
own money on it ($150,000 to produce the CD, $150,000 to market
it).

Gave birth to her 1st child at age 44, a son named Dashiell Gaston Hawkins on November 18, 2008. He was named in part for Hawkins's longtime partner and manager, Gigi Gaston, who had directed The Cream Will Rise, the documentary about Hawkins mentioned above.
Gave birth to her 2nd child at age 50, a daughter named Esther Ballantine Hawkins on July 7, 2015 after being implanted with her own frozen embryo (sperm was provided by a donor).
