The game was in disgrace, the fans, hooligans, the nation, it seemed, were all played out. Then there was Italia '90 - The World Cup - a shot at redemption. But this was no ordinary World Cup and no ordinary time. The manager, Sir Bobby Robson, was under intense media scrutiny, and his team described as 'donkeys'. Yet over six short weeks, through their heroic exploits they united a nation, coming within a heart beat of reaching the World Cup Final. - DirectorMike ToddStarsJamie CarragherSteven GerrardRoger HuntSHANKLY: NATURE'S FIRE explores the remarkable life and career of BILL SHANKLY, the legendary Liverpool Football Club manager who came to leave such a legacy in his adopted home city. The film is a nostalgic journey into the origins of the world's favourite game, and how legends are born and transcend generations. Perhaps no one before or since has personified the spirit of the working class culture that gave birth to the modern game. Shankly's passion for football was boundless to the point of obsession. This unique feature length documentary is an exploration of the determination and commitment to community that emerged from Britain's industrial heartlands and manifested itself in this unstoppable game: creating a love affair still etched in the hearts of the generations that followed. It is also a film about a city and how one man seemed almost divinely able to give voice to, and make tangible, the hopes and dreams of a people. His connection to the fans of the City of Liverpool is something that may never be seen again. To understand who Shankly is, where he came from and the loyalty and passion he inspired, is to understand the spirit of football itself.

- DirectorSteve BarronStarsKevin PiperRicky TomlinsonMalcolm TerrisThe manager of England's national football unexpectedly succumbs to a heart attack, and suddenly the search is on for a replacement. Most people who seem qualified for the position have the good sense to turn it down, and so the responsibility falls to Mike Bassett, a scruffy and loud-mouthed lout whose claim to football fame is leading a previously undistinguished team to a league championship. Bassett insists that England will win the World Cup under his leadership, but that's before he replaces his star player with a once-gifted footballer who has since developed a drinking problem, and hired a one-time car salesman as his assistant. After stunning losses to Poland and Belgium, Bassett goes from a favorite of both fans and the press to one of the most hated men in England; hoping to whip his team into shape, he subjects them to the high-tech training methods of eccentric Dr. Shoegaarten, which injures more players than it helps. Which means none of the other fourteen players has overcome the paralyzing effect of his medication or illness. Bad timing. Stefan has just invited fifteen teams from all over Europe to Munich: to the 20th International Tournament of Psychiatric Football. - StarsXabi AlonsoMilan BarosRafael BenítezAt the start of the season there was a nervous excitement at Anfield. With a new manager and some potentially excellent signings Liverpool looked to improve on their performances in previous seasons. With the power of Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal, Liverpool looked realistically to claim fourth spot in the league to secure Champions League football again. However they weren't to achieve that goal, having an almost Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde complexion in their league fixtures. The season was far from a disappointment though. Losing in extra time to Chelsea in the Carling Cup was an admirable performance however Liverpool saved their best for the cream of them all: the European Champions League. Round after round Liverpool were condemned as the underdogs, yet again and again they came out on top against the likes of Juventus and a very sweet revenge mission on Chelsea. The best was yet to come though. In possibly the greatest final of all time. Liverpool - led by the inspirational Steven Gerrad - clawed back a half tie 3-0 deficit to none other than the giants of European football, A.C.Milan, eventually securing victory in a penalty shoot-out with Jerzy Dudek reprising Bruce Grobelaar's infamous 'wobbly legs' antics from 1984. Featuring every goal from every game this season, highlights from the Carling Cup and extensive review of the Champions league, including footage from the spectacular match which contained every emotion for the watching millions, as AC Milan 's 3 - 0 half time lead was washed away in a tide of red.

- DirectorDaniel GordonStarsWilliam BaleMargaret AspinallDavid DuckenfieldHillsborough is an in-depth, moving account of Britain's worst sporting disaster, in which 96 men, women and children were killed, hundreds injured and thousands traumatised. Beginning with that fateful day, 15 April 1989, the film details the horror of the tragedy, told through the experiences of those directly involved: fans, survivors, family members and police officers. Many speak publicly for the first time. It captures the horror of the crush on the terraces, revealing the prejudices held by the police towards football fans. It exposes the police commanders' abject failure in leadership as the tragedy unfolded, and their deceit and determination to deflect responsibility for their failures in crowd management onto those who survived. The documentary exposes the lack of dignity shown to bereaved families as they arrived in Sheffield to identify their loved ones laid out in body bags on a gymnasium floor. It considers the impact of the orchestrated vilification of fans in the media and, as a consequence, their public condemnation. By interviewing those involved, it recounts the 27-year campaign for justice fought on behalf of the 96 who died.

- DirectorStefan ValdobrevA single 48-year-old man from a small town on the bank of the river Danube lives alone with his mother and his cat called Beckham. The only thing of meaning in his life is his love for a football club. He is one of the millions who become significant through the successes of their idols. But there's something special about him: his name. In 1999 Manchester United are playing Bayern Munich in the Champions League final and are losing 1:0 in the 89th minute. On the verge of despair, this passionate Bulgarian fan declares that if his team somehow manage to win the match, he will change his name to Manchester United. In the next two minutes the "red devils" do the impossible, scoring two goals to win the trophy, and that's how Marin Zdravkov Levidzhov starts his ten-year odyssey through court, churches and authorities, hoping that one day he will wake up as Manchester United Zdravkov Levidzhov. Following the quest of a man's awkward dream to be named after his favourite football club, the film director, Stefan Valdobrev, brings us close to a Bulgarian builder and his memorable mates, and creates a moving portrait of contemporary Bulgaria with its bewildered and confused people, so disappointed by the life in the country that they migrate to their own substitute reality. The journey starts in Svishtov, tells the story of the protagonist's struggle with the legal system, leads us all the way to Old Trafford Stadium, where he meets his idol, the Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov, and ends up back home, raising questions about identity, about who we are and who we want to be.
