A show-stopping comic for decades, the inimitable Arnold Stang, with the trademark Runyonesque voice and thick, black glasses, started out famously on radio before branching out to include Broadway, films and especially TV. Born on September 28, 1918, in New York City (for decades he himself perpetuated the myth of being born in 1925 in Chelsea, Massachusetts), he was the son of a lawyer. Following the 1929 stock market crash, his father was forced to look elsewhere for work and managed a living as a salesman. The scrawny kid from Manhattan grew up in Brooklyn and attended New Utrecht High School.
During his teen years (early 1930s) he auditioned for and won roles on radio's "Horn and Hardart's Children's Hour," a variety show, and the kiddie program "Let's Pretend," which set off a two-decade stint as one of radio's most popular vocal personalities. His squawky, unmistakable voice was heard as Jughead in the "Archie Andrews" series and as neighbor Seymour Fingerhood on the beloved, Bronx-styled Gertrude Berg classic "The Goldbergs," among others. He even appeared in radio soap operas and mysteries on occasion, often providing comedy relief. A reliable and feisty second banana, he traded quips with the best of them: Eddie Cantor; Jack Benny; Fred Allen; Fanny Brice; Milton Berle, you name it.
In between radio work Stang could sometimes be seen on the stage, his first legitimate play being on Broadway with the short-lived "All In Favour" (1942). This was followed by "You'll See Stars" at the end of that same year. He subsequently moved from radio to TV with the help of Milton Berle in the late 1940s and eventually found a very comfortable niche in comedy as a foil to the big stars. On the satirical Henry Morgan's Great Talent Hunt (1951), he was a regular member of Henry Morgan's stock company as a nerdy teen named Gerard. Plain, plucky but rather sad-sack, his puny-looking nerd types (5'3" and not much over 100 pounds) seemed to beg to have sand kicked in their faces. Yet, as much as they could be pushed around, they often displayed stubborn, delinquent-like streaks and could be mighty pesky in nature and irritating to the nth degree.
Stang also lent his vocal talents quite successfully to cartoon voiceovers beginning with Popeye the Sailor's pal Shorty. He later moved into a lengthy hitch as "Hoiman" the mouse in Paramount's popular "Herman and Katnip" series, but his best known animal character, of course, came later with the title role in Joseph Barbera - William Hanna 1961 classic cartoon series Top Cat (1961). His playing of "T.C", the slick, smart-alecky, Brooklynesque mastermind behind a gang of alley cats, was very reminiscent of Phil Silvers' Sgt. Bilko character from The Phil Silvers Show (1955).
Film work for Stang would be very sporadic over the years providing secondary but stalwart support in such escapism as Seven Days' Leave (1942), My Sister Eileen (1942), Let's Go Steady (1945), Two Gals and a Guy (1951) and the all-star epic It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963). Stang's best featured part was a rare dramatic role opposite Frank Sinatra in the then-daring topical movie about drug addiction entitled The Man with the Golden Arm (1955). Here he played Frank Sinatra's seedy but loyal pal Sparrow, a role that easily could have influenced Dustin Hoffman when he created his Ratso Rizzo character a decade and a half later in Midnight Cowboy (1969).
From the 1950s, the bespectacled comedian would be a steadfast TV commercial spokesman pitching such products as Delco, Chunky candy ("Chunky...what a chunk o' chocolate!") and Orkin ("Stop squawkin', call Orkin!") using his own, unique style. As for the stage, a few of his later stints included the 1969 Broadway remake of "The Front Page," the role of Hysterium in a production of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," and a part in Woody Allen's "Play It Again, Sam". The owlish comedian continued acting into the 90s with small roles in such movies as Ghost Dad (1990) and Dennis the Menace (1993).
Long married (since 1949) to wife JoAnn Taggart, a writer, Stang died of pneumonia at age 91 in Newton, Massachusetts, just before Christmas in 2009. He was also survived by his two children, David Donald and Deborah Jane.- Writer

Brandon Cole Margera, better known as Bam Margera, was born on September 28, 1979 in West Chester, Pennsylvania, to April Margera (née Cole) and Phil Margera. He was given the name Bam at age three, by his grandfather, after his habit of running into walls. He is of Italian (from his paternal grandfather), German, English, and Welsh descent.
In high school, he'd often appear in articles in Jeff Tremaine's Big Brother magazine and made CKY videos with his older brother Jess and his friends Chris Raab, Ryan Dunn, and Brandon DiCamillo. He only attended high school because Chris Raab went. Bam dropped out of high school after Chris Raab got suspended for smearing feces on lockers, but his parents persuaded him to get his GED which he got.
In 2000, Jeff Tremaine made a deal with MTV to make a show called Jackass and Bam got a spot on the show. Even though Jackass lasted two years, Margera would go on to star in the Jackass movies and even have his own reality television series, Viva La Bam featuring his family and CKY members including Jackass star and close friend Ryan Dunn.
Over the years, he starred in other Jackass films and other skateboarding projects. In 2011, he lost his best friend Ryan Dunn from a drunk-driving accident.
He now has his own game show, Bam's Badass Gameshow.- Actor

Character actor Bernard Behrens was born on September 28, 1926 in London, England. Behrens grew up in poverty in Depression-era London and did his level best to surmount the dire reality of his dismal situation by sneaking into movie theaters as a youngster and aspired to become an actor since the age of seven. A child evacuee during World War II, Bernard was forced to live by his wits with a foster family. Behrens not only acted in stage productions for the Bristol Old Vic in the United Kingdom, but also with the Canadian Players, Halifax's Neptune Theatre (he starred in the Canadian premiere of "Mary, Mary" at this particular venue), Toronto's Crest Theatre, as well as the Shaw and Stratford Festivals in Canada. Outside his stage work, Bernard also acted in a handful of films and made guest appearances on numerous television programs. His last acting role on stage was playing Young Farley in a Shaw Festival production of "Belle Moral." Diagnosed with dementia four years prior to his death, Behren's final years were spent in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada, then, during the last year of his life, was in Perth, Ontario, Canada, where he was cared for in Lanark Lodge. Bernard died at age 85 on September 19, 2012 in Perth, Ontario, Canada. The husband of actress Deborah Cass, who along with Behrens was a founding member of the Neptune Theatre under the directorship of Leon Major, died in 2004. Brigitte Bardot was born on September 28, 1934 in Paris, France. Her father had an engineering degree and worked with his father in the family business. Brigitte's mother encouraged her daughter to take up music and dance, and she proved to be very adept at it. By the time she was 15, Brigitte was trying a modeling career, and found herself in the French magazine "Elle". Her incredible beauty readily apparent, Brigitte next tried films. In 1952, she appeared on screen for the first time as Javotte Lemoine in Crazy for Love (1952). Two more films followed and it was also the same year she married Roger Vadim (the union lasted 3½ years). Capitalizing on her success in French films, Brigitte made her first American production in Act of Love (1953) with Kirk Douglas, but she continued to make films in France. Brigitte's explosive sexuality took the United States by storm, and the effect she had on millions of American men who had not seen a woman like her in a long, long time--if ever--was electric. Rise to the phrase "sex kitten" and fascination of her in the United States consisted of magazines photographs and dubbed over French films--good, bad or indifferent, her films drew audiences--mainly men--into theaters like lemmings. In 1965, she appeared as herself in the American-made Dear Brigitte (1965) with James Stewart (she only appeared in one scene). Just before she turned 40, Brigitte retired from movies after filming The Edifying and Joyous Story of Colinot (1973). She prefers life outside of stardom. While it enabled her to become internationally famous, it also carried with it annoyances. It was not anything for her to have "fans" enter her house or wander around the grounds of her home in the hopes of getting a glimpse of her or to take something that belonged to her. Paparazzi constantly hounded her with their cameras. She has been so soft-hearted that some people even have taken advantage of her generosity. After her life in the spotlight, Brigitte went on to become a leading spokesperson for animal rights and started the "Foundation Brigitte Bardot" dedicated solely to that cause. Her work in that realm is, perhaps, far greater than any film she could have made. Brigitte has been married to Bernard d'Ormale since 1992 and they reside in St. Tropez with their nearly 50 pets.- Actress

Christopher Hebert was born on September 28, 1973 in Fullerton, California, where he has spent most of his life. His acting career began when he was allowed to audition for a local theater production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" for one of the parts of the fairies. His mother apparently was reluctant but relented after Hebert's persistence. She had thought that he would not get picked for the part and that this experience would get the acting bug out of his system. However, Hebert got the part and through that summer production, he made connections to a professional agent who got him work in commercials and television before that summer even ended. Hebert continued to work pretty busily for the next five years. His most memorable project came with his feature film debut, The Last Starfighter (1984) as the precocious and likable younger brother, Louis Rogan. Other feature films include The Check Is in the Mail... (1986); a co-starring role for Hebert in a deficient satirical comedy, Invaders from Mars (1986), The Night Before (1988) and Mortuary Academy (1988). Hebert also did numerous episodic appearances, most notably Family Ties (1982), The Twilight Zone (1985) and Fuzzbucket (1986)- a Disney TV movie. Hebert's acting career dwindled down during his high school years, an experience fueled by personal problems at home, but one he does not regret now in hindsight. Hebert went on to study film at the University of Southern California's acclaimed School of Cinema-Television, graduating with his B.A. in 1997. During his studies there, he became more and more intrigued with film theory and aesthetics, rather than the technical side of movies. Hebert did star in a low-budget, independent film, Waiting for Mo (1996) made locally in the L.A. area but unfortunately was unable to find an audience after its completion. After graduating college, Hebert tried to rekindle his success as an actor but was unable to devote as much time and energy to it due to financial distress. This, to him, was a blessing in disguise. Hebert, fed by financial burdens, stumbled into substitute teaching and now has a passion for the classroom. He now is finishing his English teaching credential and already is teaching a high school film studies class that he has helped to create. He is also very involved in his church activities, coordinating a drama ministry and directing the youth group. He plans to get his masters degree in Christian Education. For now, Hebert loves teaching although he admits he still longs to produce, write, and direct films and videos if time and money allows. He is happily married and still resides in Fullerton.- Christopher Evan Welch was born on 28 September 1965 in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, USA. He was an actor, known for Lincoln (2012), The Master (2012) and Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008). He was married to Emma Welch. He died on 2 December 2013 in Santa Monica, California, USA.
- Claudio Borghi was born on 28 September 1964 in Castelar, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. He is an actor, known for Fox Sports: Copa Libertadores (2002), Deportes 13 (1962) and Fútbol de Primera (1985). He has been married to Mariana Pagnucco since 1987. They have two children.

The beloved Impresario of TV variety from 1948 to 1971, Ed Sullivan originally made his name as a newspaper sportswriter, radio broadcaster and theater columnist for the New York Daily News. His column focused primarily on Broadway shows and juicy items about its stars. On the new medium of TV, however, he became a pioneer master of ceremonies and entertainment showman.
Edward Vincent Sullivan and his twin brother, Daniel (who died at age 2), were born to a modest Irish-Catholic family on September 28, 1901, in Harlem. A major athlete at Port Chester High School, he lettered in track, football, basketball and baseball. His first professional experience was his local The Port Chester Daily Item, a local newspaper for which he had written sports news while in high school. He joined the paper full-time after graduation. He would land subsequent jobs as a sports reporter, and then various news-related jobs with such papers as The Associated Press, The Philadelphia Bulletin and The New York Bulletin. A sport writer and (later) editor for The Evening Graphic in 1927, Sullivan took over the Broadway column for The News after Walter Winchell left. That position would last 42 years.
Hired in 1932 by the CBS network as a rival of radio commentator Walter Winchell, future radio stars introduced on Sullivan's program included Jack Benny. Sullivan made his film debut as himself in Mr. Broadway (1933), which he also wrote. His subsequent screenplay and story involvements included the screwy comedy There Goes My Heart (1938) and the Universal musical Ma! He's Making Eyes at Me (1940).
So successful was he as Masters of Ceremony at the Harvest Moon Ball at Madison Square Garden, CBS hired him to do The Ed Sullivan Show (1948) ("Toast of the Town") just as TV sets were becoming a home staple. The show, which balanced amazing novelty acts with singing and comedy talents, both legendary and up-and-coming, was broadcast from CBS Studio 50 on Broadway in New York City. In 1967 the studio was aptly renamed the Ed Sullivan Theater. Although Sullivan himself had zilch stage or camera presence and had a frustrating habit of forgetting performers' names as he was about to present them, audiences were completely taken by his charming idiosyncrasies and mellow, guy-next-door approach. He and the show became a resounding success for a staggering 23 years.
Sullivan had a knack for identifying talent and his Sunday night variety platform became a springboard for a number of top stars and groups, including comics Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis and singers Elvis Presley and The Beatles. He also was color blind when it came to talent, generously promoting a number of black crossover acts, such as The Supremes and other Motown artists, when few other TV shows would. Sullivan appeared as himself in such films as Bye Bye Birdie (1963), The Patsy (1964) and The Singing Nun (1966), among others. The irrepressibly stiff, hunch-shouldered emcee was unmercifully parodied by a parade of impressionists over the decades, including Will Jordan, John Byner and David Frye.
Following his cancellation in 1971, Sullivan was seen infrequently hosting variety specials. He died in his beloved New York of esophageal cancer in 1974, three years after the cancellation of his series. The father of one daughter, Betty, Sullivan's wife Sylvia (Weinstein) Sullivan, whom he married in 1930, died the year before.- Egon Hoegen was born on 28 September 1928 in Düsseldorf, Germany. He was an actor, known for Journal 1870/71 - Täglicher Telegraph (1970), Express (1968) and Ei verbibbsch - Das Comedy Kombinat (2004). He was married to Dorotea. He died on 1 June 2018 in Germany.
- Eloy Phil Casados was hired out of the state employment office as an extra in The Lawyer (1970), directed by Sidney J. Furie. He then was hired full time as stand-in for the leading man. This lucky break started his film making career. While studying Art at the University of New Mexico, he worked in front of and behind the camera on dozens of Hollywood movies shooting in New Mexico. His first SAG role, opposite Robert Forster, came from a walk on audition with the director on the film set of Pieces of Dreams (1970).
Casados was in Albuquerque rehearsing with Anthony Quinn when a SAG rep from Hollywood caught up with him. The SAG rep stopped the rehearsal and said Eloy had to join SAG or get off the set. Casados had no idea what SAG was. Quinn found this amusing and arranged for the producers to pay Eloy's SAG initiation fee so they could continue filming. Casados later helped co-found the first New Mexico SAG local. Casados moved to Hollywood in 1975 with the dream of working on a film written by his favorite screenwriter Dalton Trumbo. In 1977, he played the title role in Trumbo's final screenplay, Ishi: The Last of His Tribe (1978). He teamed with Academy Award winning composer Maurice Jarre to narrate an album of the Ishi soundtrack for the American Congress of Indians; for which effort Casados was inducted into the American Cowboy Hall of Fame.
Highlights of Casados's career include: was being hired by Universal Studios to read for the part of Tony Montana to audition actors with Brian De Palma for Scarface (1983). Casados played singer Louis Prima in Ron Shelton's film Cobb (1994) and appeared in eight Shelton films. Working internationally in England, he played Squanto in the BBC production of the pilgrim story The New World. He narrated at the Disney Concert Hall with conductor Victor Veneer and the California Philharmonic.
A writer, director, editor, camera operator, and artist, he was married with three daughters until his death in 2016. - Emily Dole was born on 28 September 1957 in Orange, California, USA. She was an actress, known for GLOW: Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (1986), Hard Time on Planet Earth (1989) and Son in Law (1993). She died on 3 January 2018 in Orange, California, USA.

Emmy Award-winning composer Geoff Zanelli is a standout in the film and television scoring industry, garnering accolades and recognition for his diverse musical voice. Zanelli has composed for directors such as Gore Verbinski and Ridley Scott; writer/directors David Koepp, Peter Hedges and David Duchovny; producers Jerry Bruckheimer, Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg; as well as actor/producer Tom Hanks.
Zanelli will score the fifth installment of Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" coming to theaters in May 2017. "Pirates of the Caribbean" fans have previously heard Zanelli's original music contributions in all four of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films via his collaborative work with Zimmer.
This marks a return of Zanelli's strong scores for Disney, which began with his breakout score for the fantasy drama "The Odd Life of Timothy Green" starring Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton. Zanelli's organic and stirring score for the film also received critical acclaim, including a feature in Variety's Eye on the Oscars issue.
Zanelli recently collaborated with Grammy-award winning Mark Ronson on the co-written score and songs to Lionsgate's "Mortdecai," marking his third time working with writer/director David Koepp; director Jared Hess for the comedy "Masterminds;" and Steve Martin and Edie Brickell to lend string arrangements to the Grammy-award winning album "Love Has Come For You," and follow-up album "So Familiar," which dominated the Bluegrass charts. He is currently writing the score and songs for "Star Citizen: Squadron 42," the most crowd-funded game in history.
In 2006, Zanelli earned his first Emmy after scoring the original music for Steven Spielberg's miniseries "Into The West." With this win, Zanelli became the youngest composer ever to be awarded the 'Outstanding Music Composition for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special (Original Dramatic Score)' accolade. A few years later, Spielberg once again tapped Zanelli to score HBO's "The Pacific," which earned him his second Emmy nomination. Other credits include: DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures' "Disturbia," 20th Century Fox's "Hitman," Lionsgate's "Gamer," DreamWork's "Ghost Town," The Weinstein Company's "Outlander" and Columbia Pictures' "Secret Window" (co-written with Philip Glass) among many others. Additionally, Zanelli co-wrote the song "Don't Make Me Wait" for "Disturbia."
Zanelli has contributed music to many feature films including: Disney's "The Lone Ranger;" the Golden Globe-nominated scores for Warner Bros.' "The Last Samurai" and Touchstone Pictures' "Pearl Harbor;" Paramount Pictures' "Rango," MGM's "Hannibal," Columbia Pictures' "Angels & Demons," DreamWorks' "Antz," "Chicken Run," "Shark Tale," and "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa," working alongside composers Hans Zimmer, John Powell, Harry Gregson-Williams and Steve Jablonsky.
Zanelli has degrees in Film Scoring and Music Production & Engineering from the prestigious Berklee College of Music, which he attended on scholarship. He is an active alumnus at his alma mater and has participated in Berklee's Curriculum Review Initiative as well as given seminars to students studying composition. During his time at Berklee, Zanelli received the Doug Timm Award in recognition of his film scoring work and the Music Production/Engineering Scholar Award.
A Southern California native, Zanelli began his musical career as a guitar player and songwriter. In 1994, he met Zimmer and was offered a job at Remote Control Productions. Now, Zanelli is known as a versatile composer in his own right, who combines music from different genres and cultures.- Producer

Janeane, the petite woman with the acerbic wit, was born in Newton, New Jersey, in 1964, to Joan, a secretary, and Carmine Garofalo, an Exxon executive. She is of Italian and Irish descent. Janeane had many jobs before breaking into show biz. She worked as a bike messenger, a shoe saleswoman, waitress and temp secretary. Watching David Letterman on TV inspired her to write comedy, and by 1985 she was doing stand up comedy. As such, Janeane has become a cult figure, giving a voice to a generation, venting her frustration at T.V., romance, life in general and anything that ticks her off in particular. Janeane did sketches on The Ben Stiller Show (1992) (an Emmy-winning, but canceled show). She would continue to collaborate with Ben Stiller in future projects. Janeane received 2 Emmy nominations for her work on The Larry Sanders Show (1992), developing her signature character: a smart, cynical woman with a razor wit. She was not happy with her Saturday Night Live (1975) stint in 1994, and was vocal about it (of course). Transferring her persona from TV to the big screen, she moved on to movies, basically playing the character she had defined for herself. In Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997) she portrayed a smart, cynical, successful businesswomen with a razor wit, and this time with swear words (in the movie she had developed a brand of cigarettes with fast-burning paper, for the gal on the go; in real life it is alleged she smokes Marlboros). Janeane continues to work in TV and movies, often collaborating with Ben Stiller in a number of movies like Mystery Men (1999), his easygoing style being a counterpoint to her caustic nature.- Actress

As Disney's lively lass Katie O'Gill, she was the freshness of spring. She could inspire you to dance a jig through a field of flowers. Her entrancing green eyes and catchy spirit had that kind of life-affirming effect. Cute, spunky, almond-eyed British actress Janet Munro was deemed to be an actress from day one as the daughter of Scottish stage and variety-hall comedian Alex Munro (1911-1986) (born Alexander Horsburgh). Janet Neilson Horsburgh was born in Blackpool (near Liverpool), Lancashire, England on September 28, 1934. Her entertainer father adopted the name Munro a few years after she was born. His wife, Janet's mother Phyllis, died when Janet was 8 and she was raised by his second wife, Lilias.
Janet first trained as a teenager in repertory theatre in the Lancashire area, and in the late 1950s she found popularity on British TV, even earning the title of "Miss Television of 1958" from a fan magazine. She also dabbled in films and had prominent roles in the breezy comedy Small Hotel (1957), the drama The Young and the Guilty (1959), and the creepy sci-fi/horror The Crawling Eye (1958) [aka The Trollenberg Terror].
Adaptable to both comedy and drama, the little charmer caught the eye of Walt Disney who saw big things for her, and she was signed to a five-picture deal in 1959. She made four. Appealing to a brand new generation of Britishers and Americans as the scrappy, brunette-banged ingénue of several box-office family films, she brightened up the screen with her performances in Darby O'Gill and the Little People (1959), Third Man on the Mountain (1959), and Swiss Family Robinson (1960).
The Golden Globe winner for "most promising newcomer" eventually outgrew Disney and tried to move ahead by altering her wholesome image with some mature, spicier roles, but audiences didn't respond well to this sudden departure. The idea of an adult Janet Munro playing overly-sexy ladies and seriously downtrodden women did not take and her career quickly faltered. Despite a BAFTA nomination for her role in Walk in the Shadow (1962), she began to see life unraveling both personally and professionally right before her eyes.
Janet's marriages to actors Tony Wright and Ian Hendry fell by the wayside and two miscarriages, plus chronic medical ills, only deepened her suffering. Worse yet, she developed an acute alcohol problem. Semi-retired from acting between 1964 and 1968 while married to Hendry in order to raise her children, she found the going difficult when she tried to return full-time.
Ironically, one of Janet's last screen roles showed her at her dramatic best, a boozing pop star in the British film Sebastian (1968). Four years later Janet died under somewhat mysterious circumstances. Reports circulated that she choked to death at a London hotel while drinking tea. The immediate cause of her death was acute myocarditis; the underlying cause was chronic ischemic heart disease. The sun set all too soon on this lovely actress when she was only 38. She was survived by her daughters, Sally and Corrie Hendry.- Actor

Jim Diamond was born in Bridgeton in the East End of Glasgow, Scotland September 23rd 1953. He heard Otis Redding's version of 'My Girl' and decided he wanted to embark on a singing career. At the tender age of 15 he joined his first band 'The Jade' and gigged around Scotland. Following this he joined forces with Blues virtuoso Alexis Korner "The Godfather of British Blues". His vocals were in some of Korner's albums - including "The Lost Album" 1976. Jim decided it was time for pastures new and formed his own band 'Bandit' with whom he was lead singer and wrote all of the songs such as "Ohio", "Love and Understanding" and "Dance When You Boogie". They were signed to Arista's label and failed to hit the big time.
In the late 70s Jim formed the group 'Ph.D' (Polyphemus, Hymas, Diamond) with classically trained pianist/keyboard player Tony Hymas and drummer Simon Philips. They hit the big time with the classic million selling 'I Won't Let You Down'. This really put Jim's name on the map. He decided in the early 80s to go solo and was signed by A&M Records in 1984 and penned the song 'I Should Have Known Better' with 'Gallagher & Lyle' star Graham Lyle. The song was an instant hit and reached Number 1 in December of '84.
In 1985 Jim was asked to write and record the theme song for Central TV's (UK) 'Boon' starring Michael Elphick and David Daker. The outcome was Pop/Reggae song 'Hi Ho Silver'. It reached Number 5 in 1986. Jim is now half of 'The Blue Shoes' a blues and soul band. They are touring the country with Jim's classics and new songs.- Jim French was born in 1928 in Pasadena, California, USA. At the age of eight he knew he wanted to be a radio announcer. During WWII, Jim got a job as an announcer on a radio station called KPAS. He entered the Army a few years later and, after being sent to Japan with other troops, was assigned to an Armed Forces Radio Service where he started writing weekly radio shows.
In 1948, he returned to Seattle where he wrote more radio dramas, including the famous "Harry Nile" series and "The Further Adventures of Sherlock Holmes".
Having written and performed over 500 radio shows, Jim's unique, booming voice caught the attention of Valve, a video game developer. Gamers can hear his voice in Valve's Half-Life 2 (2004), in which he voiced Father Grigori and in Left 4 Dead (2008), also by Valve, in which he voiced Bill. More recently, Jim also voiced the Elder Titan in Valve's Dota 2 (2013).

Joe Torry was born on 28 September 1965 in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. He is an actor and writer, known for Poetic Justice (1993), Tales from the Hood (1995) and NCIS (2003). He has been married to Crystal Torry since 2001. They have three children.- He had an unsettled childhood, his family never staying in one place for very long. The youngest of three brothers, Joel Anthony Fabiani was born to an Italian-Austrian father (Ernest Fabiani, 1902-1988) and an Irish and Native American mother (Bessie Fabiani, née Holcomb, 1903-1992). He attended seventeen different schools, eventually joining the army and then majoring in English at Santa Rosa Junior College. There, Joel was bitten by the acting bug and this led to a two year-long stint at the Actor's Workshop in San Francisco where he learned stagecraft. From there, he moved to New York and began his professional career in summer stock and off-Broadway. One of his first roles was as a court's clerk in the play One Way Pendulum at the now defunct East 74th Street Theatre. During this performance he met his second wife, the actress Audree Rae (his first marriage to fellow work shop alumnus Katharine Ross had ended in divorce after two and a half years in 1962). Joel made his debut Broadway appearance in a revival of Beyond the Fringe '65.
On screen from 1964, he featured in the pilot episode for Ironside (1967) and had a small recurring part in the medical soap The Doctors (1963). He also made a series of cigarette commercials as a debonair tuxedo-wearing James Bond-type character. This seemed to fit the bill for ITC producer Monty Berman who was scouting in the U.S. for an American actor to star in a projected espionage/crime series filmed in Britain. Before long, Joel and his wife relocated to the U.K. where the actor went on to make his name in a career defining role. As Stewart Sullivan, he was cast as the leader of a three-member team comprising the fictional Interpol sub-branch Department S (1969), solving the most enigmatic and perplexing cases, alongside Peter Wyngarde (as flamboyant crime writer Jason King) and Rosemary Nicols (as down-to-earth computer expert Annabelle Hurst). Joel's character, an ex-FBI agent, was most adept at handling himself in a fight and also the only member of the trio to interact directly and receive the team's assignments from the head of the department, a cultured diplomat with far-reaching contacts (played by Dennis Alaba Peters). Department S was a polished entertainment with global syndication and has long since attained cult status. Curiously, its brief run consisted of just one season and 28 episodes. A sequel, Jason King (1971), proved rather less successful.
Upon his return to the U.S., Joel (in his own words) "wanted to go out and conquer Hollywood, which is what I immediately set out to do - and didn't - but I had an awful lot of fun trying". Largely maintaining his suave Stewart Sullivan image, he went on to guest-star in numerous prime time shows (often for Quinn Martin Productions). In these, he played anything from murder victims to priests, from military brass to ill-fated spies, from attorneys and politicians to murderers and from private eyes to psychiatrists. Joel had recurring roles in the soaps Dallas (1978) (publisher Alex Ward), and Dynasty (1981) (the scheming King Galen of Moldavia), plus a decade-long tenure on All My Children (1970) (lawyer Barry Shire). Though occasionally seen in mainstream cinematic productions (Reuben, Reuben (1983), Tune in Tomorrow... (1990), Snake Eyes (1998)), he had higher profile roles in made-for-TV films (the best of these being, arguably, the suspense thriller One of My Wives Is Missing (1976) and the Emmy Award-winning prison drama Attica (1980), co-starring Henry Darrow and Morgan Freeman).
For much of the 1970s, Joel continued to act on the New York stage. He also made TV and radio commercials for Sony. From the mid-80s, he diversified into the field of narration for audio books ("A River Runs Through It", "The Light in the Forest", "Aces and Eights") and worked as announcer on Barbara Walters specials until 2003. He retired from acting a decade later and resides in New York with his current wife Charna Greenburg. - Actor

A bright child, John Sayles began reading novels before age 9. A Williams College grad in 1972, he shunned a corporate career to work various blue-collar jobs, moving to east Boston to take a factory job. He wrote stories and submitted them to various magazines, and the Atlantic Monthly gave him the idea of publishing them in a novel--thus "Pride of the Bimbos" (1975) was born.
In the late 1970s he worked for renowned low-budget producer Roger Corman as a screenwriter. He saved much of the money he earned from that job, got some friends together and made Return of the Secaucus Seven (1980) in 25 days. Altough it was a hit, he had trouble obtaining financing for the films he wanted to make because he would not give up his right of final cut. Baby It's You (1983) was Sayles' only film made under studio control.
In 1983 the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship granted him a tax-free income of $32,000 a year for 5 years. That stipend and money he earned for writing such films as The Clan of the Cave Bear (1986), Enormous Changes at the Last Minute (1983) and Breaking In (1989) enabled him to make the kinds of films he wanted to make. Lone Star (1996) placed Sayles in the ranks of top American filmmakers. In it and his other films, a broadly appealing social consciousness emerges, showing Sayles to be concerned with what's going on with regional cultures, national values and what living in the US is like today.
Sayles and Maggie Renzi, whom he met during college, have lived together since the 1970s, splitting their time between a Hoboken, NJ, house and a farm in upstate New York. They have no plans to marry.- Actor

Marcello Mastroianni was born in Fontana Liri, Italy in 1924, but soon his family moved to Turin and then Rome. During WW2 he was sent to a German prison camp, but he managed to escape and hide in Venice. He debuted in films as an extra in Marionette (1939), then started working for the Italian department of "Eagle Lion Films" in Rome and joined a drama club, where he was discovered by director Luchino Visconti. In 1957 Visconti gave him the starring part in his Fyodor Dostoevsky adaptation White Nights (1957) and in 1958 he was fine as a little thief in Mario Monicelli's comedy Big Deal on Madonna Street (1958). But his real breakthrough came in 1960, when Federico Fellini cast him as an attractive, weary-eyed journalist of the Rome jet-set in La Dolce Vita (1960); that film was the genesis of his "Latin lover" persona, which Mastroianni himself often denied by accepting parts of passive and sensitive men. He would again work with Fellini in several major films, like the exquisite 8½ (1963) (as a movie director who finds himself at a point of crisis) and the touching Ginger & Fred (1986) (as an old entertainer who appears in a TV show). He also appeared as a tired novelist with marital problems in Michelangelo Antonioni's La Notte (1961), as an impotent young man in Mauro Bolognini's Bell' Antonio (1960) , as an exiled prince in John Boorman's Leo the Last (1970), as a traitor in Paolo and Vittorio Taviani's Allonsanfan (1974) and as a sensitive homosexual in love with a housewife in Ettore Scola's A Special Day (1977). He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor three times, for Divorce Italian Style (1961), A Special Day (1977), and Oci ciornie (1987). During the last decade of his life he worked with directors, like Theodoros Angelopoulos, Bertrand Blier and Raúl Ruiz, who gave him three excellent parts in Three Lives and Only One Death (1996). He died of pancreatic cancer in 1996.- Actress

- A tall, imposing character actor with a penetrating stare, Marshall Bell has provided excellent support in a variety of roles and genres. He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on September 28, 1942, and had been working as a consultant, teaching senior executives how to improve their speaking skills, prior to starting an acting career relatively late in life. His connection was his wife, the veteran costume designer Milena Canonero, herself a winner of three Academy Awards and nominee for five more. He made his motion picture debut in the drama Birdy (1984), which was seen by enough people to effectively jump-start his career. One of his next few roles was one of his most infamous: the creepy Coach Schneider of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985). But the role that really got him noticed was as resistance leader George / Kuato in Total Recall (1990) (the role re-united him with Arnold Schwarzenegger, as he'd played a hit man in the comedy Twins (1988)). Other substantial film roles include a frightening homeless man terrorizing Bill Paxton in the movie The Vagrant (1992), Gordies' emotionally distant father in Stand by Me (1986), and General Owen in the movie Starship Troopers (1997), re-uniting him with "Total Recall" director Paul Verhoeven. He's done many TV series, including Good vs Evil (1999), Wiseguy (1987), The X-Files (1993), Tales from the Crypt (1989), Hill Street Blues (1981), House (2004), and Deadwood (2004). He's also appeared in commercials and done voice-over work.
A solid, reliable actor with an authoritative presence, Bell is a natural for playing "tough guy" roles, although movies like Airheads (1994) show him to be able to play comedy equally well. He continues to add many credits to his resume, including the critically acclaimed Capote (2005), the prisoner of war drama Rescue Dawn (2006), and the family film Nancy Drew (2007). - Martin Bernheimer was born on 28 September 1936 in Munich, Germany. Mira Katherine Sorvino was born on September 28, 1967 in Manhattan. She is the daughter of Lorraine Davis, an actress turned drama therapist, and veteran character actor Paul Sorvino. Her father's family were Italian immigrants. The young Sorvino was intelligent, an avid reader and an exceptional scholar. Her father discouraged her from becoming an actor, as he knew how the industry often chews up young stars. She attended Harvard, majoring in Chinese, graduating magna cum laude in 1989, largely on the strength of her thesis, a Hoopes Prize-winning thesis on racial conflict in China, written and researched during the year spent in Beijing, which helped her fluency in Mandarin Chinese.
However, she showed interest in a career in acting from an early age, and moved to New York City to try her hand in the City's film industry, waitressing, auditioning and working at the Tribeca production company of Robert De Niro. She succeeded in getting a little television work in the early 1990s, but got her first film job in the independent gangster movie Amongst Friends (1993), on which she worked her way up the ladder behind the camera to eventually associate-produce the film, and, more importantly, was eventually cast as the female lead. The indie production was well-received, and Sorvino's performance attracted enough buzz to get her cast in two more movies, one a more prominent indie, Barcelona (1994), the other her first Hollywood feature, Quiz Show (1994), and her skillful performances brought her yet more attention.
An exceptionally poised and articulate young woman, she may have seemed inappropriate to play a crazy hooker, but Woody Allen took the chance, and her magnificent performance as the female lead in his Mighty Aphrodite (1995) proved her range as a performer and earned her an Oscar (at the tender age of 29) for Best Supporting Actress. Since winning the Oscar, Sorvino has continued to take a wide range of roles, including another stretch as Marilyn Monroe in Norma Jean & Marilyn (1996), co-starring with another very intelligent and skilled young actress, Ashley Judd. Forays into action and horror, such as Mimic (1997) and The Replacement Killers (1998) show that Sorvino is not above being playful in the film roles she chooses.
However, what forever cemented her role in popular culture was her performance as charmingly silly California beach girl Romy White in Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997), in which she and co-star Lisa Kudrow utter one hilarious absurdity after another.
Mira Sorvino married Christopher Backus on June 11, 2004, and the couple have four children.- Actress

Naomi Ellen Watts was born on September 28, 1968 in Shoreham, England to Myfanwy Edwards "Miv" (Roberts), an antiques dealer and costume/set designer, and Peter Watts (Peter Anthony Watts), Pink Floyd's road manager. Her maternal grandfather was Welsh. Her father died when she was seven and she followed her mother and brother around England until she was 14 and they finally settled in Australia, homeland of her maternal grandmother. When they arrived, she coaxed her mother to let her take acting classes. After bit parts in commercials, she landed her first role in For Love Alone (1986). Naomi met her best friend Nicole Kidman when they both auditioned for a bikini commercial and shared a taxi ride home. In 1991, Naomi starred with Kidman in the sleeper hit Flirting (1991), directed by John Duigan. Naomi continued her career by starring in the Australian Brides of Christ (1991) co-starring Oscar-winners Russell Crowe and Brenda Fricker.
In 1993, she worked with John Duigan again in Wide Sargasso Sea (1993) and director George Miller in Gross Misconduct (1993). Tank Girl (1995), in 1995, an adaptation of the comic book was a cult hit, starred Naomi as "Jet Girl", but it didn't do at the box-office or do much for her career. Watts continued to take insignificant parts in movies including the much forgotten film Children of the Corn: The Gathering (1996). It wasn't until David Lynch cast her in the critically acclaimed film Mulholland Drive (2001) that she began to become noticed. Her part as an aspiring actress showed her strong acting ability and wide range and earned her much respect, as much as to say by some that she was overlooked for a Oscar nomination that year. Stardom finally came to Naomi in the surprise hit The Ring (2002), which grossed over $100,000,000 at the box-office and starred Watts as an investigative reporter hunting down the truth behind several mysterious deaths seemingly caused by a video tape. While the movie did not fare well with the critics, it launched her into the spotlight. In 2003, she starred in Alejandro González Iñárritu's 21 Grams (2003) which earned her - what some say is a much overdue Oscar nomination and brought others to call her one of the best in her generation of actors. The same year, she was nominated for 21 Grams (2003), Naomi was chosen to play "Ann Darrow" in director Peter Jackson's King Kong (2005) which took her to New Zealand for a five month shoot. Watts completed her first comedy in I Heart Huckabees (2004) for director David O. Russell, playing a superficial spokes model - a break from her usual intense and dramatic roles she is known for.
In 2005, she reprized her role as the protective-mother-reporter "Rachel Keller" in The Ring Two (2005). The movie, released in March, opened to $35,000,000 at the box office in the first weekend and established her as a box-office draw. Also in 2005, it was decided that her independent movie Ellie Parker (2001) would be re-released in late 2005 after its success at resurfacing at the Sundance Film Festival. The movie, which Naomi also produced, features her in the title role and is a bit biographical, but yet exaggerated take of the life of a struggling actress as she comes to Hollywood and encounters nightmares of the profession (it also features Watts' own beat-up Honda which she travels around in). In 2006, she starred with Edward Norton in The Painted Veil (2006). In July of 2007, Naomi gave birth to a boy, Alexander Pete (Sasha Schreiber) in Los Angeles with Liev Schreiber. Since then her career choices have gathered even more critical acclaim with starring roles roles in German director Michael Haneke's American remake of his thriller Funny Games (2007), David Cronenberg's Eastern Promises (2007), and the action-thriller, The International (2009), released in February 2009. In mid-2008, Watts announced she was expecting her second child with Schreiber and gave birth to second son Samuel Kai Schreiber, in New York on December 13.- Olivia Jordan was born on September 28, 1988 in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she spent most of her youth. She attended Bishop Kelley High School where she was active on campus, delegating her time away from the books to Student Council, the tennis team, and her position as varsity cheer captain. After high school graduation, she decided to venture beyond her home in middle America. At Boston University, Olivia majored in Health Science and worked as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer at BU's FITREC facility. Her go-getter personality kept her involved on campus, pioneering a self-defense workshop that would become a continued tradition in her sorority, Alpha Phi. Upon graduating, Olivia moved to Los Angeles to pursue her lifelong passion for acting and modeling. She has been featured on screen, but has yet to have her "big break." She epitomizes the term, "student of life." Her unique and unfaltering optimism and relentless determination sets her apart. A dogged dreamer with a level head held high on her shoulders-a lover of love, life, and pugs-you will be seeing more of her as she continues to make her mark in the acting world.
