Personal Best Red Dwarf Series (Represened by episodes)
My personal favourite Red Dwarf series ranked from worst to best. Each are represented by my favourite episodes from their respected series.
Even if the series is ranked as the worst, doesn't mean it's terrible overall in general, as they may have some classic episodes.

- DirectorEd ByeStarsChris BarrieCraig CharlesDanny John-JulesThe Red Dwarf crew investigates a alien spaceship that is drifting in deep space. Where they discover a D.N.A modifier, a genetic altering machine that alters all organic life. But all havoc breaks loose, when Lister gets turned into a chicken, a hamster, Kryten becomes a human male and they create a curry monster from Lister's curry. My PERSONAL pick for the best series. Why? Because it was the first one I saw. Well, when I first watched Red Dwarf on Dave back in 2008, the episodes I watched were from this series. Lots of great laughs, an introduction to an ACE character (See what I did there?), and... Killer Vindaloo.
Worst thing about the series: As far as I'm aware... nothing is bad.
Best thing about the series: The scene in DNA where Kryten looks to Lister for advice after being turned into a human. Just don't ask to see his photo collection. - DirectorAndy De EmmonyStarsChris BarrieCraig CharlesDanny John-JulesStarbug is attacked by a Simulant battleship and infected with a virus which overrides it's navicomp. Lister, Rimmer and Cat use the AR machine to enter Kryten's mind, which has taken the form of the Wild West, in order to fight the virus.Series 6 was a game changer. Red Dwarf was missing, for one thing. But it proved it could still be a great show without the titular ship. Many other classic moments are in this series: Lister marrying a GELF, a world inhabited by Rimmers... and that finale... 4 years we waited for a conclusion.
Worst thing about the series: THE WAITING AFTER THE FINALE!
Best thing about the series: The entire episode "Gunmen of the Apocalypse". It's brilliant. A tribute to Westerns. Necessary watching. - DirectorEd ByeStarsChris BarrieCraig CharlesDanny John-JulesThe Red Dwarf crew encounter the Polymorph, a genetically engineered space mutant that drains the emotions from humans, that has arrived on-board Red Dwarf.Series 2 was better than series 1, but series 3 was FAR better than either of them. Loads more laughs, loads more classic moments. Kryten had finally joined the group, and Holly had a head sex change.
Worst thing about the series: Really hard to say. It's almost faultless. Perhaps maybe the recycling of some shots, here and then, from series 2.
Best thing about the series: The entire episode of "Polymorph" 'Nuff said. - DirectorRob GrantDoug NaylorStarsChris BarrieCraig CharlesDanny John-JulesAt a research complex on an ice planet, the crew find the hologram of Dr. Lanstrom who has been infected with a holo virus that turned her mad. Back on the Red Dwarf the crew are subjected to quarantine by Rimmer who's also been infected.Series 3-6 are the most impeccable of the entirety of Red Dwarf. It's hard to rank these four, so a lot of people will disagree with me. Red Dwarf V is amazing. Some absolute gems, here. The finale is... wow.
Worst thing about the series: I found a lot of the episodes were quite horror-based. Don't get me wrong, they are amazing episodes. But I think if there'd been a bit more of a variety.
Best thing about the series: "Mr Flibble is very cross..." - DirectorEd ByeStarsChris BarrieCraig CharlesDanny John-JulesHolly creates a new star drive called "Holly Hop Drive" that will warp Red Dwarf from one part of space to another within a matter of seconds. It all goes wrong when Red Dwarf enters an alternate dimension; The crew encounter female versions of themselves and Cat encounters another version of himself, a dog with a southern accent.Series 2 improved upon the series in every way. It got us off the ship from time to time, and even introduced a character that'd one day join Lister, Rimmer, the Cat and Holly: Kryten. There are some great episodes in this series.
Worst thing about the series: I can only really say Kryten being in one episode. I wished he was in more in that series.
Best thing about the series: I've got to give it to "Tongue Tied", the musical segment of the last episode. - DirectorEd ByeStarsChris BarrieCraig CharlesDanny John-JulesOn the mining ship Red Dwarf, slobbish slacker Dave Lister dreams of a life in Fiji away from his annoying bunkmate Arnold Rimmer. When he's placed in suspended animation, he wakes up 3 million years later to find the entire crew are dead. The first series for many a programme improves as it progresses. I guess the same could be said for Red Dwarf. Though the first episode is my favourite, because it introduces us to the characters we'll be spending the next five episodes with for the series.
Worst thing about the series: They're stuck on the ship. It's not until series 2 that they go explore distant planets.
Best thing about the series: Hard one to say... Two Rimmers and the Cat, perhaps? - DirectorDoug NaylorStarsChris BarrieCraig CharlesDanny John-JulesHiding in an asteroid, surrounded by a Simulant Death Ship and its fleet of Annihilators, the Dwarfers wonder if this is the beginning of the end. Only one man can save them. Unfortunately, that man is Arnold J. Rimmer. After Back to Earth, we were treated with the tenth series, shown on Dave. Despite the advert breaks, it wasn't too bad. In fact it was pretty good.
Worst thing about the series: No Holly. And maybe still a little too much CGI (Though it wasn't as bad.)
Best thing about the series: Ooh... I just want to say seeing Rimmer, Lister, Cat and Kryten again. Even though we saw them 3 years earlier they were still missed. - DirectorDoug NaylorStarsChris BarrieCraig CharlesDanny John-JulesLister's busy day of annoying Rimmer is interrupted by the discovery of something in the ship's mile-deep water tank.Back to Earth was something quite special. It marked the return of the Dwarfers, and it was also the sign of things yet to come... that being another series.
But Back to Earth was... not bad. Quite funny, but maybe not as much as some of its predecessors.
Worst thing about the series: the CGI. It was too constant. Series 7 was bad for it, at times, but at least the sets were there. With Back to Earth, a lot of it was just in front of a green screen.
Best thing about the series: The return of Rimmer, Lister, Cat and Kryten. Need I say more? - DirectorEd ByeStarsChris BarrieCraig CharlesDanny John-JulesKryten struggles to come to terms with being classified as a woman and having to shower with the female prisoners. The male prisoners take advantage and reprogram Kryten into broadcasting Shower Night live, endangering Lister's appeal.Series 8 was slightly better, but still had some iffy moments. At least Chris Barrie came back.
Worst thing about the series: Resurrected crew. Well, I'm being a bit too dramatic about that. I guess when you've been used to the fact that Lister was supposed to be the last human in the universe, it's a bit annoying to have the crew resurrected. I don't think they're a necessity for the show, either. We're happy with the four Dwarfers and Holly, and the GELFs and Simulants they meet.
Best thing about the series: Hard one. I want to say Chris Barrie returning. I also want to say Jake Wood, who's character Kill Crazy was pretty damn funny.
Meh, I'll say both these things. Also, Rimmer kicking Death in the nuts. - DirectorEd ByeStarsChris BarrieCraig CharlesDanny John-JulesFollowing the encounter with their future selves, Kryten forbids the use of time travel but Lister wishes to go back in time to get some curry. However, the crew instead end up in Dallas, 1963 on the day John F. Kennedy is assassinated.Series 7 is the worst of the Red Dwarf series. But as I said, it's not terrible, per say. It's not amazing, but it's still enjoyable to watch.
Worst thing about the series: Chris Barrie's temporary leaving. Arnold Rimmer is the best character on the show, and after he left, there was a noticeable decline in the quality of Red Dwarf. He was replaced by Chloe Annett, who played Kristine Kochanski. Though she had a couple of good moments, she couldn't hold a candle to Clare Grogan.
Best thing about the series: Robert Llewellyn. Kryten is naturally funny, anyway, but he had some hysterical moments in this series, too. ("Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. I said SUPPER IS READY!") His bitchiness towards Kochanski was often very funny, as well.
Favourite Episode: "Tikka to Ride." It tries to conclude series 6, but t the same time, it goes, "Meh, screw it!" and just dives straight into the next adventure. The Dwarfers discover that, due to their encounter with their future selves, their Indian food supply is low. Lister plans on using the Time Drive to go back in time to an Indian restaurant and restock the supply, but they inadvertently end up in Dallas, Texas, on the 22nd November 1963. See where this is going?
It's without a doubt the best of series 7. There are some inconsistencies, but it's still a barrel of laughs.
