Martial Artists In Movies: The Real Deal - Volume 14 (All Kickboxing Edition)
This is a list of legitimate martial artists appearing in movies, accompanied by the styles they practice(d), the recognition they've received for them, and individual trivia.
This particular list EXCLUSIVELY includes individuals whose primary activities in the realm of martial arts include Kickboxing competition. Individuals who have competed in Kickboxing but are more authoritative in other sectors can be found in other lists.
Qualifications:
--------------------------------------------------
I have begun crediting stunt performers for doubling others in fight scenes. I justify doing this for cases wherein the stunt performer is performing significant parts of the action themselves and is displayed on the screen as prominently or more than the actor or actress.
--------------------------------------------------
NOTE: a lot of the trivia listed here did originally come from IMDb pages, but I've only included information I was able to verify from other sources as well.
--------------------------------------------------
**Though I have done my utmost to ensure that all information below is factual and up-to-date, I may have made mistakes and therefore make no claims about this list's infallibility**

Qualifications:
- the performer must be an actual practitioner of a martial art; simply portraying martial artists in film, no matter how well or how often, is not enough
- the martial art(s) in question must be able to be identified and verified by a source other than hearsay
- individual accomplishments (e.g. tournaments won, belts held) must likewise be verifiable
- Mixed Martial Arts, Tai Chi, and weapons-based styles can only be credited if the person in question practices another style as well (I reserve the right to make exceptions)
- Kickboxing is considered a martial art
- Tae Bo, boxing, wrestling, and gymnastics are not considered martial arts
- styles incorporating firearms usage (e.g. Systema) are not considered

A Martial Arts World champion, from Argentina Hector Echavarria, brings to the Hollywood film industry a background of business success, acting experience, and martial arts expertise. In addition to producing and starring in his own films, Hector has become an industrial force- with his own clothing line, martial arts federation, real estate holdings, children's toys and action figures, and an entertainment production company. And now, with his multi-picture slate of action films in which he stars and produces, others are calling him the Tyler Perry of the Hispanic action market. These included Death Warrior, Unrivalled, Confessions of a Pit Fighter, also starring Armand Assante, Flavor Flav and Oscar nominated John Savage, Never Surrender (which he also directed), and the horror film Lake Dead (for After Dark Films). Best seen in FATAL MISSION- Former Heavyweight boxing contender Randall "Tex" Cobb has had 3 highly colorful careers; kickboxer, pro boxer, and movie actor. Born in Bridge City, Texas on May 7, 1950, the 6'3", 225 pound Cobb excelled in high school football and martial arts. Enjoying "extreme" sports to the max, Cobb launched a professional kickboxing career and racked up 9 straight knockout victories.
Realizing the big money was in boxing, he switched sports and launched a professional boxing career. Known for a "cast-iron" chin, a sledge-hammer punch, and a "gift for gab", Cobb quickly established himself as one of the top heavyweight contenders in the world. Cobb's brutal, one-sided beating by heavyweight King Larry Holmes over 15 rounds (although Cobb was reportedly never off his feet) caused world-famous boxing announcer Howard Cosell to "swear-off" boxing for the rest of his life. Cobb took the beating with a grin and a wide smirk. His antics captured the Hollywood's attention and he was cast as Jon Voight's opponent in the remake of The Champ (1979).
Cobb went on to appear in action roles requiring muscles and physical heft in films and television. He later launched a highly successful ring comeback in the early 1990s stretching his winning streak to 20 straight. However, he retired unexpectedly with a 43-7 log with 36 knockouts, never to box again. Duncan Airlie James was born on May 23rd, in Glasgow, Scotland. From a young age, Duncan found a love for sports, that took him through football (soccer), rugby, and eventually led him into the Martial Arts.
Displaying a strong "creative / artistic" streak in the 80s he spent most of the decade as a drummer and musician for a variety of bands in Glasgow, Scotland.
In the early 90s, with his competitive nature and physical presence again pushed to the fore of his life, he could no longer resist the drive to pursue his dream of success in combat. Duncan dedicated the next decade of his life to the sport and won six versions of World, Thai Boxing and Kick Boxing titles as a competitive fighter. He competed all over the world during his illustrious and very successful career with his tartan shorts and fighting kilt becoming a famous trademark and his badge of honour!
After many years of hard work, and enjoying great success across the globe, Duncan retired from his competitive fighting career at the end of 2006. To date, he is still the ONLY Scotsman ever to fight in the prestigious K-1 events in Japan and remains Scotland's most well known, and arguably most successful ever ring fighter!
With the demands and rigours of a professional fighting career behind him, and with his focus and interest now shifted from that path, the creative juices once again started to flow strongly and before long, Duncan rediscovered his love of performance and acting.
He brings the same drive, intensity, determination and self discipline that he showed to achieve outstanding success as a professional fighter, to his passion for acting.Shotokan Karate, Kickboxing, Muay Thai (2-time WKA Champion; WKO, WPKA, WKF, WAKO, WKN & ISKA Champion; record: 32-14-2), Mixed Martial Arts
