For this role, Robin Williams was nominated for an Oscar and it's a shame he didn't get it. It's hard to say if this was the role of his career because he nailed literally every role he ever played and he was one of the best comedians and actors of all time. Beside this nomination, both Robin and Forest Whitaker got a bunch of other awards, completely deserved. In my opinion, this movie deserves to be considered one of the best movies in the history of cinema.

Classic fairytale is presented from a different angle, sending us a message that even if growing up is necessary, we must not completely repress our inner child. Interesting adventure, lots of fun and laughs, a bit of drama and tears and a whole lot of emotions. Great performances, especially by Williams and Hoffman, and beautiful beautiful music. All-times classic.

One of my favorite childhood movies. It won Oscar for make-up and Robin got Golden Globe. One of the best and most fun actors ever in one of his best achievements. IMDb rating is shameful. I watched this masterpiece countless times and every time I laugh like madman regardless that I know it by heart and every time it brings tears in my eyes at the end. Beautiful beyond any description.

Two siblings move to a new house and find an unusual board game in the attic. Magical board game. The most entertaining board game ever ... for us. For them, potentially lethal.
When it came out I was a teenager and I was thrilled. From this perspective, the film is outdated and naive, but still quite fun. Robin Williams does not shine with his full splendor, but he is certainly better than in "Night at the Museum", with which this film has a lot of similarities. Kirsten Dunst is very good in one of her first major roles, but just one year after "Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles" this role is too bleak to leave a stronger impression. I didn't see all of her movies, but from what I did, the role of Claudia is unquestionably her best and I doubt she could ever outclass it. The effects are very naive, though not bad, and if you enter this adventure without high expectations you will surely have a good time.

But when he discovers that his beloved wife Annie has killed herself out of grief over the loss, he embarks on an afterlife adventure to reunite with her.Amazing and original idea, beautiful cinematography, good acting, but, in my opinion, story is not developed enough. Just opening part, that prepares us for main plot, could be movie on its own. It may be to much to make series out of this, but there is certainly enough material for at least two movies. They should've developed opening part further until they end up with two parts movie, first part taking place in the world of living and second part about adventures of our main character after he dies. This way, lasting less than two hours, first part is too hasty and sketchy, putting us right into main plot unprepared, without enough background. Potential masterpiece restricted to good, but not great film.
7,5/10 - DirectorChris ColumbusStarsRobin WilliamsEmbeth DavidtzSam NeillAn android endeavors to become human as he gradually acquires emotions. When I saw who made this movie I knew what to expect. Screenplay was adapted from novels by Isaac Asimov and Robert Silverberg, which by itself guarantees good story. It's directed by Chris Columbus, director of Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire and first two Harry Potter movies. And in leading role we have Robin Williams, man capable of pulling out great performances even from the worst screenplays. This movie simply could not fail.
Williams plays home android, who shows signs of creativity and emotions because of some strange malfunction. Movie follows its/his evolvent through several generations of family that bought him, him gradually becoming independent, his relations with people and fight to be recognized as a human being. Audience expect Robin Williams movies to be comedies and with such expectations you will be disappointed. Bicentennial Man is not a comedy, nor it is SF in the true sense of the word. This is drama about search for ones true self and it's place in the world. About essence of humanity being in mortal body or in personality and soul. There are no definite answers to life's greatest questions, but it's always worth looking at things from a new perspective. Perhaps the production is far behind it, but essentially this film stands side by side with Kubrick's and Spielberg's Artificial Intelligence.

This film had all the preconditions to be a masterpiece of the genre: an excellent, fairly original idea, a big budget and an incredible cast. Unfortunately, the realization is just slightly above the average.
The idea was developed in a decent story, but it could have been much better. The effects are good, but not breathtaking, and the acting team is literally wasted. Ben Stiller almost alone carries the entire film, while top actors who surround him are totally unused. Robin Williams, one of the greatest names of the comedy, who turns even a bad role into gold, has such a small and uninteresting role that he simply did not have the opportunity to shine, and even that little time he was given he did not use well. In my opinion, this was his worst role. Enchanting Carla Gugino has no purpose in this movie. She was thrown into the story for the element of romance with Ben Stiller, but neither romance was given the chance to happen, nor did her character have any other function in the film, so her role is completely redundant. The same goes for Jake Cherry, because the relationship between father and son, which should have been one of the backbones of the film, was so superficially shown that they could easily leave it out completely. Trio Bill Cobbs, Mickey Rooney and Dick Van Dyke was an unexpected but pleasant surprise in this film. These three veterans, with their appearance alone, raise the rating of the movie at least one star. Ricky Gervais seems to be improvising all the time and, although he plays a very small role, he greatly contributes to the entertainment of the film. There are many more interesting characters in the film, but I will mention only Patrick Gallagher, Steve Coogan and Owen Wilson, because they left the strongest impression on me.
The disadvantages of this film are, in my opinion, quite big, but its qualities and the fantastic cast not only compensate for, but also overcome its flaws, so the film is very watchable, quite entertaining and at times hilarious.

I return to this movie from time to time for the last two decades. I do not like Damon and Affleck, but this is their lifetime achievement and the most deserved Oscar they will ever win. Beautiful drama about finding yourself, finding a balance between the essence of life and its everyday appearance, about love and friendship. Realistic, unpretentiously philosophical and warm movie about life. Two main trumps of this movie are its perfect script and brilliant Robin Williams, the actor that adds warmth and love in everything he does. I can not say it's a masterpiece of cinematography, but it surely is beautiful, intelligent and it never gets old.

The US-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee protested over the pro-Western display of Aladdin and Jasmine, who is always without a veil, over the fact that all the characters with the turban are bald, and that all the villains are caricatured personifications of prejudices about the Arabs. But the fiercest protests were caused by a verse from the song "Arabian Nights," which opens the cartoon. The verse now reads "Where it's flat and immense and the heat is intense, it's barbaric, but, hey, it's home". In the original version, the verse read "Where they cut off your ears if they don't like your face, it's barbaric, but, hey, it's home". This provoked such an alarm that the film was placed among the most controversial achievements of all time.
Personally, I find this information quite interesting, but totally irrelevant, because the animation is excellent, the music is beautiful, the story is quite solid, and the film that stars Robin Williams by default can not fail.
8/10 - DirectorGeorge MillerWarren ColemanJudy MorrisStarsElijah WoodBrittany MurphyHugh JackmanInto the world of the Emperor Penguins, who find their soul mates through song, a penguin is born who cannot sing. But he can tap dance something fierce!"I do not want to live in a world without Penguins!"
During the mating season, male and female Emperor penguins seduce each other with song. Until one day a penguin came into the world completely unable to sing, but an incredible talent for tap-dancing.
The script is somewhat original, but it essentially delivers the good old story of growing up, of sticking out, of seeking your true self and the need to be accepted and loved. A story of genuine friendship, courage, and true love. Nothing new, but it doesn't make it any less wonderful. The powerful emotion this movie conveys from the start is complemented by good animation, a strong cast that gives voices to cartoon characters (Robin Williams, Brittany Murphy, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, ...) and a superb soundtrack (John Lennon, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Lionel Richie, ZZ Top, Elvis Presley, Freddie Mercury,...).
The film won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film of the Year and brought Prince the only Golden Globe of his career. But even if all this means nothing to you, can you really resist a movie about Penguins?!
8/10 - DirectorPeter WeirStarsRobin WilliamsRobert Sean LeonardEthan HawkeMaverick teacher John Keating returns in 1959 to the prestigious New England boys' boarding school where he was once a star student, using poetry to embolden his pupils to new heights of self-expression."O, Captain! My Captain!"
In the middle of the twentieth century, a group of teenagers in an elite boarding school got a new professor of English language and literature. While the school strictly adheres to the motto: "Tradition. Honor. Discipline. Excellence.", reminiscent more of a military than an educational institution, Professor Keating, played in his recognizable manner by the legendary Robin Williams, through poetry and his unusual, somewhat eccentric methods, tries to teach young men to use their heads, find their true natures and stand up for themselves.
"Dead Poets Society" won an Oscar for Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen, while the Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor in a Leading Role remained only in the nominations. My impressions are quite the opposite. The script is generally good, especially the selection of poetry, monologues and dialogues, but it is not particularly original and there are exaggerated and unconvincing moments. Moreover, one of the main subplots, on which the film essentially relies, seemed totally unbelievable and over-the-top to me, and I consider it an emotional manipulation. On the other hand, the camera and direction create a beautiful atmosphere, the acting of all the important characters is at a high level, and the message and emotions the movie leaves behind (the last scene always brings tears to my eyes) have made it a timeless classic.
