- DirectorTommy Lee WallaceStarsTom AtkinsStacey NelkinDan O'HerlihyKids all over America want Silver Shamrock masks for Halloween. Doctor Daniel Challis seeks to uncover a plot by Silver Shamrock owner Conal Cochran.Tom Atkins, Stacey Nelkin and Dan O'Herlihy star in
Tommy Lee Wallace's horror film. This chapter focuses
on California doctor, Dan Challis (Atkins) who becomes
part of a Halloween nightmare when a patient is murdered.
Nelkin plays the patient's daughter, Ellie Grimbridge who
he helps to investigate who is behind it. They head to small
town, Santa Mira where they meet wealthy, Irish toymaker,
Conal Cochran (O'Herlihy) who runs company, Silver Shamrock
Novelties. Soon, they discover he's a warlock plotting to sell
deadly masks in order to bring the holiday back to it's dark,
Celtic roots. Many people dislike this film because it has
nothing to do with the 2 previous films while others like
it more each year. I've always liked it, O'Herlihy was a
terrific villain, Atkins is great as usual and John Carpenter
& Alan Howarth's score is excellent as usual. It was to be
the first of different Halloween tales Carpenter intended,
but failed. It probably should've been titled, "Season of
the Witch," but I like that it's a different story and has
that Halloween feel to it. - DirectorJack SholderStarsRobert EnglundMark PattonKim MyersA teenage boy is haunted in his dreams by deceased child murderer Freddy Krueger, who is out to possess him in order to continue his reign of terror in the real world.Robert Englund, Mark Patton, Kim Myers and Robert Rusler
star in this horror sequel. This entry takes place 5 years
after the events of the original with burned killer, Freddy
Krueger (Englund) haunting and possessing new teen on
Elm Street, Jesse Walsh (Patton). Myers plays Jesse's
would-be girlfriend, Lisa Webber and Rusler plays his
new pal, Ron Grady. This film gets a bad rap and has
been called the black sheep of the series. I've always
liked it and think it's one of the scariest with Freddy.
Englund is great in the role as usual and his make-up
by Kevin Yagher is creepy. Patton also gives a convincing
performance as Jesse, he and Myers have good chemistry
and Christopher Young's score is chilling. This is a very
underrated film that should be accepted as a good 80's
horror flick and not be so misjudged. - DirectorRachel TalalayStarsRobert EnglundLisa ZaneShon GreenblattDream-haunting Freddy Krueger returns once again to prowl the nightmares of Springwood's last surviving teenager, and of a woman whose personal connection to Krueger may mean his doom.Robert Englund and Lisa Zane star in this horror sequel.
This installment takes place 10 years in the future where
dream killer, Freddy Krueger (Englund) has wiped out all
the kids in Springwood, Ohio. Soon, he reunites with his
offspring and plots to spread global nightmares. Zane
plays Maggie Burroughs, a child psychologist who has
recurring dreams and eventually discovers that she's
Freddy's daughter, Kathryn. Like "Freddy's Revenge,"
this gets a bad rap and is very underrated. I've always
liked it and agree Freddy is cartoonish in it, but I think
it's intentional and Englund is great as the character
as usual. - DirectorMichael MannStarsWilliam PetersenKim GreistJoan AllenFormer FBI profiler Will Graham returns to service to pursue a deranged serial killer dubbed "the Tooth Fairy" by the media.William Petersen, Dennis Farina, Brian Cox, Joan Allen
and Tom Noonan star in Michael Mann's thriller based
on the novel, "Red Dragon." This focuses on retired
FBI investigator, Will Graham (Petersen) who is
asked by his friend & colleague, Jack Crawford
(Farina) to track a serial killer. Will's method is
to think like the killer in order to catch him.
Cox plays psychiatrist sociopath, Hannibal
Lecktor who helps Will briefly, Noonan plays
the killer, Frances Dollarhyde who wants
to tranform into a great red dragon based
on William Blake's painting by killing and
Allen plays his blind love interest, Reba
McClane who makes it difficult for him
because he falls for her. This is one of
Mann's best with a great cast and
score. - DirectorSam RaimiStarsBruce CampbellEmbeth DavidtzMarcus GilbertWhen Ash Williams is accidentally transported to 1300 A.D., he must retrieve the Necronomicon and battle an army of the dead in order to return home.Bruce Campbell and Embeth Davidtz star in Sam Raimi's
horror sequel. This takes place right where the last
film ended with goofball, Ash Williams (Campbell)
being sent back in time to 1300 A.D. and he tries
to find an ancient book that can send him pack to
the present. He finds it, but unwittingly unleashes
an army of the dead that wants to possess it.
Campbell also plays, Evil Ash, the leader of
the dead and Davidtz plays peasant girl,
Shiela who finds romance with Ash. There's
some slapstick humor like the last film, but
I love this film and Campbell is great as both
characters. - DirectorRidley ScottStarsTom CruiseMia SaraTim CurryA young man must stop the Lord of Darkness from destroying daylight and marrying the woman he loves.Tom Cruise, Mia Sara and Tim Curry star in Ridley Scott's
fantasy. This focuses on woodland boy, Jack (Cruise) who
must rescue a kidnapped unicorn and his beloved princess,
Lili (Sara) from a demonic lord, Darkness (Curry) who plots
to turn the world into a dark, icy void. This one of the best
fantasies I've always liked, Curry is amazing as Darkness
and Rob Bottin's make-up is terrific as usual. The film is
known to have 2 versions featuring different scores by
Tangerine Dream & Jerry Goldsmith which are both
beautiful. - DirectorRidley ScottStarsMichael DouglasAndy GarciaKen TakakuraTwo NYC cops arrest a Yakuza member and must escort him when he's extradited to Japan.Michael Douglas and Andy Garcia star in Ridley Scott's
crime drama. This focuses on New York cop, Nick
Conklin (Douglas) who is sent to escort a Yakuza
criminal, Sato back to Japan. Garcia plays Nick's
partner, Charlie Vincent who gets killed by Sato.
Soon, Nick stops at nothing to find Sato and
avenge Charlie. This is one of Michael's best,
he and Andy are great together and Hans
Zimmer's score is excellent as usual. - DirectorJohn CarpenterStarsDonald PleasenceLisa BlountJameson ParkerA group of graduate students and scientists uncover an ancient canister in an abandoned church, but when they open the container, they inadvertently unleash a strange liquid and an evil force on all humanity.Donald Pleasence and Jameson Parker star in John
Carpenter's horror film focusing on a priest and a
group of graduate students who discover an ancient
evil turning out to be Satan. Pleasence plays priest,
Loomis who first learns the discovery and Parker
plays student, Brian Marsh. This is a good 80's
horror flick that's one of Carpenter's most
underrated with a good cast and creepy
score by Carpenter & Alan Howarth. - DirectorSidney J. FurieStarsChristopher ReeveGene HackmanMargot KidderThe Man of Steel crusades for nuclear disarmament and meets Lex Luthor's latest creation, Nuclear Man.Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman and Margot Kidder
star in this action sequel. This entry finds Clark Kent/
Superman (Reeve) helping rid the world of Nuclear
weapons. Hackman returns as nemesis, Lex Luthor
who creates a Nuclear Man to destroy the Man of
Steel and Kidder also returns as reporter, Lois
Lane. I've always enjoyed this film and think
it's better than the last film, Reeve had a good
story, but I think it got screwed by the film
company, Cannon. I'm glad Hackman returned,
but I also think too many scenes were cut and
there could've been better effects. - DirectorJohn FlynnStarsSylvester StalloneDonald SutherlandJohn AmosWith only six months left of his sentence, inmate Frank Leone is transferred from a minimum security prison to a maximum security prison by a vindictive warden.Sylvester Stallone, Donald Sutherland and Darlanne Fluegel
star in this drama. This focuses on mechanic, Frank Leone
(Stallone) who has a girlfriend, Melissa (Fluegel) and not
only wants to marry her, but start his own automotive
business. One thing stands in his way, a short prison
sentence he has to finish serving. When he tries to,
he meets a sadistic warden from his past who
intends on making his time hell. Sutherland plays
warden, Drumgoole. This is one of my favorites
with Stallone and he & Sutherland are great in it. - DirectorMenahem GolanStarsSylvester StalloneRobert LoggiaSusan BlakelyTough trucker Lincoln Hawk is determined to win back his son and triumph at the world arm wrestling championships.Sylvester Stallone, David Mendenhall and Robert Loggia
star in this drama. This tells the story of arm-wrestling
trucker, Lincoln Hawk (Stallone) who tries getting to
know his young son, Michael (Mendenhall). Michael
gives him a hard time at first, but eventually bonds
with him while his grandfather (Loggia) tries keeping
them apart because he dislikes Hawk. I've always
liked this film and think it's one of Stallone's most
underrated. - DirectorDanny SteinmannStarsMelanie KinnamanJohn ShepherdAnthony BarrileStill haunted by his past, Tommy Jarvis, who, as a child, killed Jason Voorhees, is sent to a secluded halfway house in the countryside, where the killing of a young man triggers a brutal series of murders in the area.John Shepherd and Dick Weiand star in this horror
sequel. This entry takes place a few years after the
last film with teen, Tommy Jarvis (Shepherd) being
sent to a group home for the mentally ill. Soon, a
psychopath (Weiand) who appears to be dead killer,
Jason Voorhees begins a killing spree and when
Tommy starts seeing images of the killer, he
questions his sanity. Many people hate this
one because Jason is technically not in it.
I think it's very underrated and not that
bad. - DirectorWillard HuyckStarsLea ThompsonJeffrey JonesTim RobbinsA sarcastic humanoid duck is pulled from his homeworld to Earth where he must stop an alien invasion with the help of a nerdy scientist and a struggling female rock singer.Lea Thompson, Ed Gale, Jeffrey Jones and Tim Robbins
star in this sci-fi comedy. Howard (Gale) is a duck from
another galaxy who is accidentally sent to Earth landing
in Cleveland. Thompson plays rock singer, Beverly who
befriends him, Robbins plays her friend, Phil and Jones
plays scientist, Jenning. In an attempt to help Howard
get home, Jenning gets into a lab accident becoming
possessed by a demonic alien accidentally sent to Earth
and kidnaps Beverly. Howard tries to save her and the
planet with Phil's help. I've liked this since I was a kid
and think it's very underrated. Jones is great as the
possessed, Jenning and John Barry's score is excellent
as usual. - DirectorMichael CrichtonStarsTom SelleckCynthia RhodesGene SimmonsIn the near future, a police officer specializes in malfunctioning robots. When a robot turns out to have been programmed to kill, he begins to uncover a homicidal plot to create killer robots... and his son becomes a target.Tom Selleck, Cynthia Rhodes and Gene Simmons star
in this sci-fi film. Selleck (Magnum P.I.) plays cop,
Jack Ramsay who works the robotics shift. Rhodes
(Dirty Dancing) plays his new partner, Karen
Thompson. Soon, they chase runaway robots
programmed to kill. Simmons (Kiss) plays
sinister engineer, Charles Luther who creates
the deadly robots and plays a game of cat and
mouse with Jack. I've always liked this film,
Simmons is a good villain and the late, Jerry
Goldsmith's score is great as usual. - DirectorDwight H. LittleStarsRobert EnglundJill SchoelenAlex Hyde-WhiteA young soprano becomes the obsession of a horribly disfigured composer, who has plans for those who oppose him or the young singer.Robert Englund and Jill Schoelen star in this horror film
based on the book & play. Englund (A Nightmare on
Elm Street) plays the title role and Schoelen (The
Stepfather) plays Christine Day, an aspiring opera
singer. Christine becomes coached by the Phantom,
Eric Destler, a scarred composer who starts killing
certain people in her honor. I like this version,
Englund and Schoelen are great in it, Kevin
Yagher's make-up effects are good as well
as Misha Segal's score. - DirectorJohn CarpenterStarsKeith GordonJohn StockwellAlexandra PaulA nerdish boy buys a strange car with an evil mind of its own and his nature starts to change to reflect it.Keith Gordon, John Stockwell and Alexandra Paul star in
John Carpenter's horror film based on Stephen King's novel.
Gordon (Back to School) plays nerdy teen, Arnie who buys
a 1950's Plymouth Fury that not only possesses him, but
kills people. Stockwell (Top Gun) plays his friend, Dennis
and Paul (Dragnet) plays Leigh, the new girl in school.
I like this film, Gordon is great in it and Carpenter &
Alan Howarth's score is excellent as usual. - DirectorWalter MurchStarsFairuza BalkNicol WilliamsonJean MarshDorothy, saved from a psychiatric experiment by a mysterious girl, is somehow called back to Oz when a vain witch and the Nome King destroy everything that makes the magical land beautiful.Fairuza Balk, Piper Laurie, Jean Marsh and Nicol Williamson
star in this fantasy based on L. Frank Baum's novels.
Balk (The Craft) plays young, Kansas girl, Dorothy
Gale who finds herself back in magical kingdom, Oz
where she meets odd, new friends and reunites with
old ones. She also faces an evil witch (Marsh) and
Nome King (Williamson). Laurie (Carrie) plays
Dorothy's Aunt, Em. I watched this as a kid,
It's definitely darker than "The Wizard of Oz,"
Balk & the cast are great in it, there's neat
effects and David Shire's score is also good. - DirectorJeannot SzwarcStarsDudley MooreJohn LithgowDavid HuddlestonThe legend of Santa Claus is placed into jeopardy when an unscrupulous toy manufacturer attempts to take over Christmas.Dudley Moore, David Huddleson and John Lithgow star in
this fantasy. This sort of tells the origin of Santa Claus
(Huddleson) who starts as a woodcarver and becomes
a Christmas symbol when he comes to the magical,
North Pole. The late, Moore (Arthur) plays Patch,
one of his elves who decides to leave to better his
toymaking abilities. He heads to New York city and
gets a job working for corrupt, toy manufacturer,
B.Z. (Lithgow) who learns of his special talents
and tries to profit from them. Soon, Santa tries
to get Patch back, stop B.Z. and save the holiday
spirit from becoming lost. I watched this as a
kid, the cast is good, there's neat effects and
I like Sheena Easton's song, "It's Christmas
All Over The World."
