"Des Teufels General" ist das Stück, um unfreiwillig etwas über das "Schwarze Loch" der 50er Jahre zu erfahren, über die ideologische Verfassung des Nachkriegsdeutschlands - heute fast ein größeres Diskussions-Tabu als der Nationalsozialismus: Niemand befragt die, die dabei waren, über das Danach, über den Katzenjammer, der dem Koitus folgte. Castorf und sein Bühnenbildner Peter Schubert versetzen das Fliegermärchen in den Weltraum, da wo Männer schon immer Männer sein konnten. Die Rolle des Harras teilen sich Corinna Harfouch und Bernhard Schütz, außerdem spielen Joachim Tomaschewsky, Harald Warmbrunn, Michael Klobe, Kurt Naumann, Klaus Mertens, Sophie Rois, Hendrik Arnst, Jeanette Spassowa und Kate Strong. Theaterpremiere war 17. Oktober 1996 in der Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz.
