Ugliest Cinematography
Digital photography can produce some amazing images, but I'm baffled by a lot of the recent trends in cinematography and post-processing, who the hell thinks this looks good.

- DirectorDavid AyerStarsWill SmithJared LetoMargot RobbieA secret government agency recruits some of the most dangerous incarcerated super-villains to form a defensive task force. Their first mission: save the world from the apocalypse.I can't...
- DirectorRon HowardStarsAlden EhrenreichWoody HarrelsonEmilia ClarkeDuring an adventure in the criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his future co-pilot Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian years before joining the Rebel Alliance. This is one of the most visually repetitive movies I've seen, the first three planets are almost identical in color palette. TLJ is garbage, but at least that film looks great and each location is unique, here it's hard to tell where you are. The problem is that it's obviously not stylized, because it doesn't commit to one look. It's grey and brown for the first half, then it's more of a tan color. "Enemy" is visually dull and repetitive but you can obviously tell it's intentional while here it doesn't seem that way at all. Isn't this movie supposed to be this lighthearted, swashbuckling adventure, why is it shot like a Holocaust film? "Son of Saul" has more life visually than this. The bar scenes with Lando actually look pretty good, they remind me of Vilmos Zsigmond's interiors for "McCabe and Mrs Miller" but that can't save the rest of the god-awful looking movie.
- DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsChris EvansRobert Downey Jr.Scarlett JohanssonPolitical involvement in the Avengers' affairs causes a rift between Captain America and Iron Man.
- DirectorColin TrevorrowStarsChris PrattBryce Dallas HowardTy SimpkinsA new theme park, built on the original site of Jurassic Park, creates a genetically modified hybrid dinosaur, the Indominus Rex, which escapes containment and goes on a killing spree.

- DirectorJames GunnStarsChris PrattVin DieselBradley CooperA group of intergalactic criminals must pull together to stop a fanatical warrior with plans to purge the universe. The second one luckily makes up for the dull cinematography, hell that's probably the best looking MCU movie
- DirectorZack SnyderStarsBen AffleckGal GadotJason MomoaFueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his new-found ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy.DC can't even do color right Jesus
- DirectorZack SnyderStarsBen AffleckHenry CavillAmy AdamsBatman is manipulated by Lex Luthor to fear Superman. Superman´s existence is meanwhile dividing the world and he is framed for murder during an international crisis. The heroes clash and force the neutral Wonder Woman to reemerge.Snyder has a good eye for composition (even if 90% of it is stolen from old paintings in desperate attempt to elevate his shitty movies) but I don't know why I get death threats for saying this movie doesn't look good.
- DirectorRobert EggersStarsAnya Taylor-JoyRalph InesonKate DickieA family in 1630s New England is torn apart by the forces of witchcraft, black magic and possession.PREFACE: This movie is good, and I like the natural lighting, but I feel that's undermined by the Marvel-esque dull color grading. I don't know why filmmakers now seem to think that if their film has a dark tone then they need to suck all color out of it. "Ran" is about how war and chaos is inevitable and no matter how long you prolong peace it will all come tumbling down, it's a very nihilistic and bleak film, but it's a very colorful movie. I wouldn't mind the flat grey look if it wasn't everywhere, and was done more naturally. Roy Andersson's "The Living" Trilogy is a great example of the flat grey look done right, because it was achieved through meticulous lighting and production design, not by digitally under saturating the footage. It really sucks with this movie because it could've been absolutely gorgeous
- DirectorPaul FeigStarsMelissa McCarthyKristen WiigKate McKinnonFollowing a ghost invasion of Manhattan, paranormal enthusiasts Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates, nuclear engineer Jillian Holtzmann, and subway worker Patty Tolan band together to stop the otherworldly threat. On the polar opposite extreme of "Muh movie is dark so make it look boring", we got, "Muh movie is funny so make it look purty". "Purty" meaning "let's over saturate everything so the actors look like the blood is about to spew out of their faces." The movie is artificially colorful, it doesn't feel natural or aesthetically pleasing. Again, the look of the film should be achieved through lighting and design, not slapping a filter over the footage in post.
