- DirectorIrvin KershnerStarsMark HamillHarrison FordCarrie FisherAfter the Rebel Alliance are overpowered by the Empire, Luke Skywalker begins his Jedi training with Yoda, while his friends are pursued across the galaxy by Darth Vader and bounty hunter Boba Fett.10/10.
Cinematic masterwork. The greatest mentor character of all time in Yoda, compelling story, Harrison Ford's best performance, the greatest lightsaber fight ever, one of the best story twists in cinema, asteroid chase.
Took Star Wars and darkened the tone, improved the performances and took it in a mature, brave new direction. This film is unparalleled in the saga, and is unparalleled by most films.
The thing that makes this film work more than anything is interpersonal relationships and a story that is divided in half but perfectly intersects when it needs to. It's descoped, the scale is minimal and intimate pushing the intergalactic conflict to the background and bring the personal conflict to the foreground. - DirectorGeorge LucasStarsMark HamillHarrison FordCarrie FisherLuke Skywalker joins forces with a Jedi Knight, a cocky pilot, a Wookiee and two droids to save the galaxy from the Empire's world-destroying battle station, while also attempting to rescue Princess Leia from the mysterious Darth Vader.10/10
Another fantastic picture. Perfect arc by the main character, brilliant turn by Alec Guiness, enough character development to chew on, fast paced, good villains and sets up a world we are just dying to explore.
The Death Star trench run is stupendous and is the epitome of tension. A perfectly constructed film.
The Performances can be hit or miss at times, but the characters are all so great that it doesn't matter. Other than that, there really isn't anything wrong with Star Wars. - DirectorRichard MarquandStarsMark HamillHarrison FordCarrie FisherAfter rescuing Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt, the Rebel Alliance attempt to destroy the second Death Star, while Luke struggles to help Darth Vader back from the dark side.9/10
Everything with Luke, Vader and the Emperor is perfect. Some of the saga's finest moments. As is Yoda's death scene and Han's rescue.
The Ewoks, however, do not do the film any sort of credit. It's unbelievable, I mean literally, it's unbelievable that they are able to defeat the galaxy's most elite troops.
Han Solo also doesn't do much and is effectively neutered, and the second Death Star is lame. There is not that much tension in those scenes, particularly once the shield is down because we've seen this movie before. It's just on a bigger scale.
Outside of those two elements this is a really great movie. Luke's progression is fantastic and his showdown with Vader is perfect as is Vader's unmasking. - CreatorTony GilroyStarsDiego LunaKyle SollerStellan SkarsgårdPrequel series to Star Wars' 'Rogue One'. The only things that hold TFA back from being a really great movie is when it flat out regurgitates ANH. Starkiller Base and its customary assault and destruction is for the birds, as is Maz Kanata's cantina.
Still, this got Star Wars going again and it's a hell of a good time and has staying power. Minus regurgitations, the new elements and characters are fantastic. It's also great seeing Harrison give a damn again with a fitting coda as Han Solo. His death, which he and Larry Kasdan have been wanting to do for years, was tragic, gut wrenching and was truly earned.
Ridley, Boyega, Isaac and Driver are fine additions as is explosive Tarkin in waiting, Domnhall Gleeson.
The lightsaber fight between Kylo, Finn and Rey, the Falcon Chase, Han's death and the discovery of Luke Skywalker belong in the annals of all time great Star Wars moments.
I cannot wait to see Episode VIII. Nostalgia has been satiated, and new characters are ready to intermingle with what's left of the old guard in hopefully a brand new adventure that can shed the shackles of monolithic battle stations and what made the series great by respecting the past but truly forging ahead with a new and unpredictable future. - DirectorRian JohnsonStarsDaisy RidleyJohn BoyegaMark HamillRey develops her abilities with the help of Luke Skywalker, as the Resistance prepares for battle against the First Order.
8/10
Still marinating. Way too much humor, way too many storylines and too much scale. The interpersonal parts and the performances are great. Mark Hamill brings the house down in one of his finest performances.
The parts that work are tremendous and the risks it takes are ballsy. But emotionally I wasn't as invested this time around. Just when you're getting into one story, we're shifting to another. The Rose/Finn storyline is bland and drags the story down immensely.
Johnson seemingly intentionally goes out of his way to give the finger to a lot of Abrams' decisions (which in some respect works, especially in regard to Snoke). But then it makes you wonder, why was Snoke even a thing to begin with?
I also liked how it goes against your expectations. Think Ben Solo is getting redeemed? No. Think Rey is some reincarnation of Anakin, a Kenobi, or anyone else important? No.
But there's just so much going on. Had the film focused more on Rey, Luke and Kylo and not focused as much on the larger conflict of the First Order and Resistance (while some of this works it's not nearly as well done as the more intimate parts of the film).
The ending and the final twist of the film is exceptional. I literally said "Fuck yeah" in the theater.
The humor is really hit or miss though. Porgs suck. They're flat out pathetic, distracting and add nothing to the movie. The humor in a lot of areas isn't nearly as natural as it was in the OT (for the most part) or TFA.
There is also arguably a nuke the fridge-esque moment with Leia that is groan inducing, as well as a terrible, terrible decision with BB-8 piloting an AT-ST. Gwendoline Christie is wasted again.
The film is a decidedly mixed bag, but the parts that work are incredible, including a suicide at lightspeed, Kylo and Rey's dynamic, Luke pulling off some incredible, mind bending force abilities that are done to serve the characters and the story. It's risky, it's intriguing and it certainly is not a retread of any Star Wars film you've seen before. - CreatorSimon KinbergCarrie BeckDave FiloniStarsDave FiloniTaylor GrayFreddie Prinze Jr.The crew of the spaceship Ghost defends those who cannot fight for themselves against the Empire, providing the spark for a rebellion.7.5/10
- DirectorRon HowardStarsAlden EhrenreichWoody HarrelsonEmilia ClarkeDuring an adventure in the criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his future co-pilot Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian years before joining the Rebel Alliance.7.3/10
Even though this comes off as a cynical cash grab on its surface, in actuality it's not. Is it necessary? No. But it does things in ways that you would least expect it to. You see Lando, the Kessel Run, the Sabaac game, but the Kasdans subvert your expectations well. Alden Ehrenrich is solid and puts his own spin on Han that works. There is a high body count here, too which is welcomed and provides a much needed sense of danger. Definitely worth seeing and a very enjoyable film. - DirectorGeorge LucasStarsHayden ChristensenNatalie PortmanEwan McGregorThree years into the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi pursues a new threat, while Anakin Skywalker is lured by Chancellor Palpatine into a sinister plot to rule the galaxy.7/10
Undisputedly the best of the prequel series. While it has its issues (dialogue, flat delivery, some questionable execution, so much CG that it makes your head explode) this is in design, a great story.
The fall of a hero and a republic. Stakes of the greatest kind and the emergence of one of cinema's most deliciously evil villains in the Emperor.
Ian Mcdiarmid carries the movies as does the propulsive, spell binding (even if sometimes overly long) action sequences. Still, there are way too many detriments that hold this film back.
Obi Wan and Yoda's exile is forced, Sidious' rise is almost too perfect, Padme shouldn't have died of a broken heart and I wish we cared at all about the Jedi order before we witnessed their brutal betrayal.
Still, it's a pretty thrilling ride and the story moves. From a great opening space battle, to political intrigue, tough decisions are being made that results in madness, murder and destruction. I wish this had been Episode I, honestly. The chess pieces move in entertaining ways and the last half of the film once Anakin turns, is balls to the wall minus some hiccups.
ROTS misses the mark, but it's at least a respectable entry into the saga in my estimation despite all of its warts. - CreatorJennifer CorbettDave FiloniStarsMing-Na WenDee Bradley BakerMichelle AngThe "Bad Batch" of elite and experimental clones make their way through an ever-changing galaxy.

A solid story, but far too many characters make this another solid, yet somewhat empty entry into the series. I enjoyed the action, but the characters are all woefully underdeveloped. There is no one to be emotionally invested with and attempts at doing so crumble to get to the next action sequence. Had the film focused on two or three rebels along with the fantastic K2SO to receive the majority of face time, as opposed to the seven or eight, this could have been a great film.
There are also a great number of cliches around every turn. While they work, it makes the film entirely predictable, particularly in the first half. The film kicks up a notch in the second half, but questionable character decisions and mostly boring characters make you feel less invested in what's being presented.
This film pulls no punches and is merciless, brutal and the body count is astronomical with an ending that is very satisfying. Give me some better characters, better decisions and scaled down story and we could have been talking at least ROTJ worthy praise. - CreatorDave FiloniStarsRosario DawsonDavid TennantNatasha Liu BordizzoAfter the fall of the Galactic Empire, former Jedi Ahsoka Tano investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.6/10

A disappointing entry. While the Rey/Kylo dynamic is as vibrant as ever, this movie moves too fast for its own good. Bringing Palpatine back comes off as fan fiction, Rey being a Palpatine is no different. The action scenes, which JJ approached with care and effective presentation in TFA, are slap dashed and cobbled together (minus the skiff chase and the lightsaber duels). There aren't enough stakes and you get the feeling that once Rey leaves Luke's island, you know how this is all going to end.
Still, the performances are good, and Ridley and Driver give their all. The main trio has some great moments together in the first half of the movie, which was nice to see. Had this movie focused more on Rey and Kylo and no Palpatine, it would have been a heck of a lot better.
