My 10 favourite movies of 2015
Here in Austria the release dates are a little bit different for some movies than elsewhere, so those are the movies that I have watched this year at the cinema and liked the most. Of course I haven´t seen every movie and I am not necessarily judging them by their quality but rather on the impact they had on me and how much I enjoyed them.

- DirectorDamien ChazelleStarsMiles TellerJ.K. SimmonsMelissa BenoistA promising young drummer enrolls at a cut-throat music conservatory where his dreams of greatness are mentored by an instructor who will stop at nothing to realize a student's potential.I have reflected long about what movie deserves the first spot and here we go! I have never left the theatre as speechless as after this movie! I really don´t remember the last time I felt as emotional watching a movie like when I watched Whiplash! The relationship between Fletcher and Andrew is fantastic! This movie is filled with great moments and dear lord the finale! This movie probably had me think about it the most this year! A true masterpiece!
- DirectorJ.J. AbramsStarsDaisy RidleyJohn BoyegaOscar IsaacAs a new threat to the galaxy rises, Rey, a desert scavenger, and Finn, an ex-stormtrooper, must join Han Solo and Chewbacca to search for the one hope of restoring peace.I have never seen the Star Wars movies as a child and saw them for the first time about two years ago and I honestly wasn´t that much of a fan (please don´t kill me) but somehow this movie really got me into that whole world of Star Wars! I absolutely loved it and I seem to like it more every time I watch it! It´s got great characters, an interessting plot, pays homage to the other movies of the franchise and the best lightsaber fight ever put to screen!
- DirectorGeorge MillerStarsTom HardyCharlize TheronNicholas HoultIn a post-apocalyptic wasteland, a woman rebels against a tyrannical ruler in search for her homeland with the aid of a group of female prisoners, a psychotic worshiper and a drifter named Max.Mad Max has great characters (especially Furiosa), my favourite score this year, a lot of outrageougsly fantastic action and non-stop excitement! One of those movies you can watch over and over again!
- DirectorChristopher McQuarrieStarsTom CruiseRebecca FergusonJeremy RennerEthan and his team take on their most impossible mission yet when they have to eradicate an international rogue organization as highly skilled as they are and committed to destroying the IMF.It is simply great to see that there is still a Hollywood actor out there that truely is full of passion and commitment for what he is doing and appreciates stunt work that much! Tom Cruise exceeds himself again and this time we even got a quite interessting villain for MI standards and more focus on the storyline. I am still uncertain wheter this one or MI4 is my favourite movie of the franchise!
- DirectorPete DocterRonnie Del CarmenStarsAmy PoehlerBill HaderLewis BlackAfter young Riley is uprooted from her Midwest life and moved to San Francisco, her emotions - Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness - conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house, and school.I really have a passion for animated movies. I love when they are cute and have a nice story but this one blew my mind! It probably is the smartest movie I have seen all year and still suited for children. Pixar have outdone themselves with this one! It truely is a movie for the whole family!
- DirectorMatthew VaughnStarsColin FirthTaron EgertonSamuel L. JacksonA spy organisation recruits a promising street kid into the agency's training program, while a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.Kingsman is full of very well-shot action scenes, has great characters, a lot of humour, good villains and just overall there is a beautiful tone to this movie...seriously what is there not to love about it?
- DirectorAlex GarlandStarsAlicia VikanderDomhnall GleesonOscar IsaacA young programmer is selected to participate in a ground-breaking experiment in synthetic intelligence by evaluating the human qualities of a highly advanced humanoid A.I.Probably the most unique and also suprisingly very good movie of the year!
- DirectorKenneth BranaghStarsLily JamesCate BlanchettRichard MaddenWhen her father unexpectedly dies, young Ella finds herself at the mercy of her cruel stepmother and her scheming stepsisters. Never one to give up hope, Ella's fortunes begin to change after meeting a dashing stranger. This film is exactely what a fairytale movie should be! By far my favourite of all the recent Disney/fairytale live-action movies made. Loved it!
- DirectorJoss WhedonStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansMark RuffaloWhen Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program called Ultron, things go horribly wrong and it's up to Earth's mightiest heroes to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plan. Not my favourite MCU movie and not as good as the first Avengers but still a solid Marvel movie that indroduced us to likeable new characters and a good villain and keeps us excited for further MCU movies.
- DirectorGuillermo del ToroStarsMia WasikowskaJessica ChastainTom HiddlestonIn the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds - and remembers.By all means it wasn´t a perfect movie and the trailer was misleading the genre but it was in my opinion the most beautiful looking movie this year with great performances by Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain.
