Silence is a brutal, epic, and accurate depiction of the Christian genocide that took place in 1600s. Andrew Garfield delivers his best performance ever, accompanied by Adam Driver. This film takes its time, but it definitly pays off in the end. - DirectorDenis VilleneuveStarsAmy AdamsJeremy RennerForest WhitakerA linguist works with the military to communicate with alien lifeforms after twelve mysterious spacecraft appear around the world.8/10
Arrival is thought provoking, interesting, mysterious, and overall a great experience. Though some viewers may find uninteresting and not containing enough action. I found this film to be amazing and refreshing without all the explosions and CGI that most modern alien movies have. - DirectorByron HowardRich MooreJared BushStarsGinnifer GoodwinJason BatemanIdris ElbaIn a city of anthropomorphic animals, a rookie bunny cop and a cynical con artist fox must work together to uncover a conspiracy.8/10
Zootopia was the surprise movie of the year for me. I had no anticipation of seeing this movie, nor any expectations. Yet when I saw this film I was so surprised. This film is a blast from start to finish. Cute animation, a great story, and lovable characters make this film a fantastic animated classic. - DirectorShane BlackStarsRussell CroweRyan GoslingAngourie RiceIn 1970s Los Angeles, a mismatched pair of private eyes investigate a missing girl and the mysterious death of a porn star.8/10
The Nice Guys is probably the best buddy-cop movies in recent years. Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe bring great chemistry and banter to the screen. With good action, hilarious comedy, and a genuinely suspenseful story. The Nice Guys is a refreshing cop movie. - DirectorDamien ChazelleStarsRyan GoslingEmma StoneRosemarie DeWittWhile navigating their careers in Los Angeles, a pianist and an actress fall in love while attempting to reconcile their aspirations for the future.8/10
La La Land is a gorgeous spectacle that is best witnessed on the big screen. Fantastic dance numbers, and a great soundtrack that is one of the best in years. This film is truly a wonderful and joyful time. - DirectorGareth EdwardsStarsFelicity JonesDiego LunaAlan TudykIn a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire's ultimate weapon of destruction.7/10
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story doesn't hold up as well as it does when I first saw it. That said, it still has a great sense of grit, and war that I never expected from a Star Wars story. Not to mention one of the best third acts of any film in recent years. - DirectorDan TrachtenbergStarsJohn GoodmanMary Elizabeth WinsteadJohn Gallagher Jr.A young woman is held in an underground bunker by a man who insists that a hostile event has left the surface of the Earth uninhabitable.7/10
(9/10 without the ending)
10 Cloverfield Lane would've been my favorite film of the year.... If the ending was different. Everything up until that is a suspenseful masterpiece that keeps you on the edge until the very end. One of John Goodman's best performances ever. I wish they didn't try to tie it in to the cloverfield universe. It's better as its own standalone film. - DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsChris EvansRobert Downey Jr.Scarlett JohanssonPolitical involvement in the Avengers' affairs causes a rift between Captain America and Iron Man.7/10
Captain America: Civil War is just fun. That's how I'd describe it. It's just so much fun. The story is average, but the characters, and action make this a great film for easy watching. - DirectorHideaki AnnoShinji HiguchiStarsHiroki HasegawaYutaka TakenouchiSatomi IshiharaJapan is plunged into chaos upon the appearance of a giant monster.7/10

Don't Breathe was a film I didn't plan on seeing, but I'm glad I did. A great new twist on the horror genre. Though it could have done without trying to set up a sequel. - DirectorPaul GreengrassStarsMatt DamonTommy Lee JonesAlicia VikanderThe CIA's most dangerous former operative is drawn out of hiding to uncover more explosive truths about his past.7/10
Jesus Christ it's Jason Bourne. I know many people thought this was a disappointment to the franchise, but I genuinely liked this film a lot. Matt Damon is fantastic in this film, great action, and a story that I found a bit cliche but engaging enough. - DirectorJustin LinStarsChris PineZachary QuintoKarl UrbanThe crew of the USS Enterprise explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a new ruthless enemy, who puts them, and everything the Federation stands for, to the test.7/10
Star Wars... I mean Star Trek: Beyond was genuinely a good movie. The trailers made this film seem much worse than it actually is. It has a great sense of charisma, fun, and over the top action. Though this undoubtedly has the weakest villain in the new Star Trek movies. - DirectorDexter FletcherStarsTaron EgertonHugh JackmanTom CostelloThe story of Eddie Edwards, the notoriously tenacious British underdog ski jumper who charmed the world at the 1988 Winter Olympics.7/10
Eddie the Eagle is a great biopic of Michael Edwards journey towards the Winter Olympics. In my opinion Taron Egerton's best movie. - DirectorM. Night ShyamalanStarsJames McAvoyAnya Taylor-JoyHaley Lu RichardsonThree girls are kidnapped by a man with a diagnosed 23 distinct personalities. They must try to escape before the apparent emergence of a frightful new 24th.6/10
(7/10 without the ending)
Split is pretty average, but James McAvoy is at his absolute best here. Bringing in a great performance of 23 characters. This proves that M. Night Shaymalan still can make an entertaining film. - DirectorTim MillerStarsRyan ReynoldsMorena BaccarinT.J. MillerA wisecracking mercenary gets experimented on and becomes immortal yet hideously scarred, and sets out to track down the man who ruined his looks.5/10

However it is undeniably funny, and Ryan Reynolds brings his absolute best to the table. - DirectorJon FavreauStarsNeel SethiBill MurrayBen KingsleyAfter a threat from the tiger Shere Khan forces him to flee the jungle, a man-cub named Mowgli embarks on a journey of self discovery with the help of panther Bagheera and free-spirited bear Baloo.6/10
The Jungle Book isn't nearly as interesting to watch as it is to look at. This film is drop dead gorgeous. But beyond that it's skin deep. But it is a fun experience. - DirectorDavid YatesStarsEddie RedmayneKatherine WaterstonAlison SudolIn 1926, magizoologist Newt Scamander arrives in New York during his worldwide tour to research and rescue magical creatures as something mysterious leaves trails of destruction in the city, threatening to expose the wizarding world.5/10
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an interesting look into the Wizarding World. Though focusing too much on setting up future movies, it is a good story on its own. - DirectorClint EastwoodStarsTom HanksAaron EckhartLaura LinneyWhen pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger lands his damaged plane on the Hudson River in order to save the flight's passengers and crew, some consider him a hero while others think he was reckless.6/10

It's a spectacle to see. - DirectorNicholas StollerDoug SweetlandStarsAndy SambergKatie CrownKelsey GrammerStorks have moved on from delivering babies to packages. But when an order for a baby appears, the best delivery stork must scramble to fix the error by delivering the baby.6/10

I love the animation style and the characters are just fun to be around. - DirectorTodd PhillipsStarsJonah HillMiles TellerSteve LantzLoosely based on the true story of two young men, David Packouz and Efraim Diveroli, who won a three hundred million dollar contract from the Pentagon to arm America's allies in Afghanistan.6/10
War Dogs. More like War Doggos. - DirectorAlessandro CarloniJennifer Yuh NelsonStarsJack BlackBryan CranstonDustin HoffmanContinuing his "legendary adventures of awesomeness", Po must face two hugely epic, but different threats: one supernatural and the other a little closer to home.6/10
Kung Fu Panda 3 makes the final installment (maybe?) of this film trilogy an unmemorable, yet entertaining film. - DirectorBryan SingerStarsJames McAvoyMichael FassbenderJennifer LawrenceIn the 1980s, the X-Men must defeat an ancient all-powerful mutant, En Sabah Nur, who intends to thrive by bringing destruction to the world.5/10
X-Men: Apocalypse has the same characters you know and love from the previous installments. But bad CGI, a weak plot, and a disappointing villain bring this film down more than it should've. - DirectorMichael BayStarsJohn KrasinskiPablo SchreiberJames Badge DaleDuring an attack on a U.S. compound in Libya, a security team struggles to make sense out of the chaos.5/10
13 Hours is a respectable but drawn out movie about the battle of Benghazi. Hillary jokes not included.
