- DirectorMartin CampbellStarsDaniel CraigEva GreenJudi DenchAfter earning a licence to kill, secret agent James Bond sets out on his first mission as 007. Bond must defeat a private banker funding terrorists in a high-stakes game of poker at Casino Royale, in Montenegro.Caught on TV. Still the best of Craig's Bonds I've seen so far.
- DirectorMarc ForsterStarsDaniel CraigOlga KurylenkoMathieu AmalricJames Bond tries to stop an organisation from eliminating a country's most valuable resource.Caught on TV. The plot is what disappointed me the most. Pales in comparison to the predecessor.
- DirectorLee UnkrichAdrian MolinaStarsAnthony GonzalezGael García BernalBenjamin BrattAspiring musician Miguel, confronted with his family's ancestral ban on music, enters the Land of the Dead to find his great-great-grandfather, a legendary singer.Fantastic film with a sweet story, great character design, faithful interpretation of Mexican culture, and catchy music. Deeper than Frozen.
- DirectorMartin McDonaghStarsFrances McDormandWoody HarrelsonSam RockwellA mother personally challenges the local authorities to solve her daughter's murder when they fail to catch the culprit.Amazing movie that makes you ponder long after the credit are done rolling. Can be rather depressing.
- DirectorGuillermo del ToroStarsSally HawkinsOctavia SpencerMichael ShannonAt a top secret research facility in the 1960s, a lonely janitor forms a unique relationship with an amphibious creature that is being held in captivity.A big disappointment for me personally. I love the director, and the first half of the movie was brilliant. The second half is formulaic, flat, and just weird.
- DirectorCraig GillespieStarsMargot RobbieSebastian StanAllison JanneyCompetitive ice skater Tonya Harding rises amongst the ranks at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, but her future in the activity is thrown into doubt when her ex-husband intervenes.Wonderful and cheeky. It wouldn't have worked in any other medium, but a mockumentary is a great way to experience this surreal sporting scandal. Margot is magnetic in this one.
- DirectorHany Abu-AssadStarsKate WinsletIdris ElbaBeau BridgesStranded after a tragic plane crash, two strangers must forge a connection to survive the extreme elements of a remote snow-covered mountain. When they realize help is not coming, they embark on a perilous journey across the wilderness.I thought this would be a good survivalist kind of movie, considering the star power behind it. Disappointing at best. Turned from a riveting drama to a sugary romance story that could have been written by Nicholas Sparks. The token running-towards-each-other scene included.
- DirectorJon GunnStarsMike VogelErika ChristensenFaye DunawayAn investigative journalist and self-proclaimed atheist sets out to disprove the existence of God after his wife becomes a Christian.Hoopla. I was curious about the movie that would try to find historical evidence for the existence of Christ and how true events might have influenced the story in the Bible. Turned out that it's just a self-congratulating Christian movie, and not a convincing one at that. Terrible.
- DirectorDan BushStarsJames FrancoScott HazeTaryn ManningTwo estranged sisters are forced to rob a bank in order to save their brother. But this is no ordinary bank.Netflix. A story of a haunted bank vault? What? Surprisingly it works. Not bad at all if you like odd horror flicks.
- CreatorGérard CarréPascal ChaumeilCaroline Van RuymbekeStarsCharles BerlingJulia PiatonPascal GreggoryA grisly find atop a mountain in the French Pyrenees leads investigator Martin Servaz into a twisted dance with a serial killer in this icy thriller.Netflix Season 1. Started out great, but got a little overreaching by the end. Still quite nice murder mystery set in France. Watched in French.
- DirectorBen StillerStarsBen StillerOwen WilsonPenélope CruzDerek and Hansel are lured into modelling again, in Rome, where they find themselves the target of a sinister conspiracy.Netflix. Horrendous for a sequel to a brilliant comedy that came before it. Rehashed and forced. But I was stuck on the couch of a terrible flu, so it worked as a light comedy for entertainment sake.
- DirectorByron HowardRich MooreJared BushStarsGinnifer GoodwinJason BatemanIdris ElbaIn a city of anthropomorphic animals, a rookie bunny cop and a cynical con artist fox must work together to uncover a conspiracy.Netflix. So good I had to watch it twice.
- DirectorGenndy TartakovskyStarsAdam SandlerKevin JamesAndy SambergDracula, who operates a high-end resort away from the human world, goes into overprotective mode when a boy discovers the resort and falls for the count's teenaged daughter.Netflix. Pretty weak and forgettable. The story has been done in one form or another a million times already. Cute characters though.
- CreatorSeth MacFarlaneDavid ZuckermanStarsSeth MacFarlaneAlex BorsteinSeth GreenIn a wacky Rhode Island town, a dysfunctional family strives to cope with everyday life as they are thrown from one crazy scenario to another.Netflix Season 15. Best background noise ever.
- DirectorSean AndersStarsWill FerrellMark WahlbergLinda CardelliniBrad Whitaker is a radio host trying to get his stepchildren to love him and call him Dad. But his plans turn upside down when their biological father, Dusty Mayron, returns.Netflix. A bit much, but okay I guess. I'm still sick at this point, so anything that doesn't make me think will do.
- CreatorVeena SudStarsMireille EnosJoel KinnamanBilly CampbellA police investigation, the saga of a grieving family, and a Seattle mayoral campaign all interlock after the body of 17-year-old Rosie Larsen is found in the trunk of a submerged car.Netflix Season 3-4. Much weaker than the first two seasons, but enjoyable. They went ahead and did exactly what I was dreading in the last episode.
- DirectorJohannes RobertsStarsMandy MooreClaire HoltMatthew ModineTwo sisters vacationing in Mexico are trapped in a shark cage at the bottom of the ocean. With less than an hour of oxygen left and great white sharks circling nearby, they must fight to survive.Netflix. Yay shark movies! I don't care how dumb they are, as long as they are entertaining. This one was surprisingly okay. No build-up or character development - jumps straight into action.
- DirectorFyodor KhitrukStarsEvgeniy LeonovIya SavvinaVladimir OsenevA Soviet version of Winnie-the-Pooh. His first adventure is a desperate attempt to get to honey in a bee hollow. He is ready to take decisive action.Youtube. So adorable. I like this cheeky version of Winnie-the-Pooh much better. Art is very childlike which adds to the charm, as if it comes straight out of a kid's imagination.
- CreatorJenji KohanStarsTaylor SchillingDanielle BrooksTaryn ManningConvicted of a decade-old crime of transporting drug money, ordinarily law-abiding Piper Chapman is sentenced to 18 months behind bars and quickly discovers the realities of life-changing prison time.Netflix Season 3. Going strong, but I'm enjoying other characters' stories more than Piper's even though she's the main character.
- DirectorPeyton ReedStarsPaul RuddMichael DouglasCorey StollArmed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, cat burglar Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, pull off a plan that will save the world.I'm not sure why so many people find this one to be one of the stronger Marvel movies. I thought it was meh.
- DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsChris EvansRobert Downey Jr.Scarlett JohanssonPolitical involvement in the Avengers' affairs causes a rift between Captain America and Iron Man.Netflix. Another one in the string of Marvel movies that blend into one. It could have been an Avengers movie for all I know.
- DirectorScott DerricksonStarsBenedict CumberbatchChiwetel EjioforRachel McAdamsWhile on a journey of physical and spiritual healing, a brilliant neurosurgeon is drawn into the world of the mystic arts.Netflix. Unusual installment for Marvel. I appreciated that it stood out both stylistically and thematically.
- DirectorTaika WaititiStarsChris HemsworthTom HiddlestonCate BlanchettImprisoned on the planet Sakaar, Thor must race against time to return to Asgard and stop Ragnarök, the destruction of his world, at the hands of the powerful and ruthless villain Hela.Great fun. So much better than any previous Thor film. Sometimes it felt I was watching a Guardians of the Galaxy movie though.
- DirectorJan de BontStarsKeanu ReevesDennis HopperSandra BullockA young police officer must prevent a bomb exploding aboard a city bus by keeping its speed above 50 mph.Caught on TV. Uber cheesy, but that's what makes it great. I'm never tired of watching this one.
- CreatorMatthew WeinerStarsJon HammElisabeth MossVincent KartheiserA drama about one of New York's most prestigious ad agencies at the beginning of the 1960s, focusing on one of the firm's most mysterious but extremely talented ad executives, Donald Draper.Netflix Season 7. An odd way to finish the series, but still well done. Of course nothing compares to the first three seasons.
