- DirectorGô OharaStarsRina AkiyamaRuito AoyagiAsamiAfter her mother is murdered, a girl dresses-to-kill as a Gothic Lolita. Using a deadly umbrella, she seeks revenge by slicing and dicing the wacky assassins responsible.Exactly what you'd expect from a movie that's been touched by Yoshihiro Nishimura. No plot whatsoever, but the effects are entertaining (Elle's execution, just... no comments, really, that was awesome) and so are the fight scenes. I liked it.
- DirectorJun'ichi MoriStarsRyô KaseMasaki OkadaFumiyo KohinataA haunting mystery about a Japanese family where a current series of crime paves the way to unraveling an unexpected family truth.Greatest Chekhov's gun ever, a tearjerking finale, and my new favorite face ever, Masaki Okada. Also, relevant for those who like the whole nature vs nurture debate. This one is really, REALLY, good.
- DirectorAndrew NiccolStarsJustin TimberlakeAmanda SeyfriedCillian MurphyIn a future where people stop aging at 25, but are engineered to live only one more year, having the means to buy your way out of the situation is a shot at immortal youth. Will Salas is accused of murder and on the run with a hostage. It's a pretty cool movie with a pretty cool concept, but Justin Timberlake will never make for a good lead, Amanda Seyfried is so pretty that I never pay attention to what she's saying, and with both Alex Pettyfer and Toby Hemingway as pseudo-villains, I don't know who to support. And that whole "your money is your life" joke completely broke my willing suspension of disbelief. BAM.
- DirectorMike CahillStarsBrit MarlingWilliam MapotherMatthew-Lee ErlbachOn the night of the discovery of a duplicate Earth in the Solar system, an ambitious young student and an accomplished composer cross paths in a tragic accident.I... didn't like it. I really didn't. It's your typical indie Let's Just Flow From Scene To Scene And Include Striking But Useless Side Characters Who Have No Relevance To The Overall Plot While We Follow The Life Of This Totally Interesting Girl Who Guess What, Is Also Going To Give Up Her Dreams For Someone She May Or May Not Love kind of movie. No thanks. I kind of see where it was going, but I don't think it actually got there. It's a shame.
- DirectorJoe WrightStarsSaoirse RonanCate BlanchettEric BanaA sixteen-year-old girl who was raised by her father to be the perfect assassin is dispatched on a mission across Europe, tracked by a ruthless intelligence agent and her operatives.I won't say it's a bad movie, I'll just say I found it awfully boring. People run a lot and never explain anything. Whatever.
- DirectorJohn N. SmithStarsHenry CzernyJohnny MorinaBrian DooleyThe true story of boys being sexually abused at their orphanage ran by a religious community in Newfoundland. As a story in itself, it's disturbing. As a movie... yes well, it's also disturbing, but mostly boring towards the end.
- DirectorPaul W.S. AndersonStarsLogan LermanMatthew MacfadyenRay StevensonThe hot-headed young D'Artagnan along with three former legendary but now down-on-their-luck Musketeers must unite and defeat a beautiful double agent and her villainous employer from seizing the French throne and engulfing Europe in war. It's fun, but sometimes it makes a joke out of itself. I liked it nevertheless. Acting could have been better and all but... yeah. It's enjoyable and fun and that's what matters.
- DirectorNeil JordanStarsBrad PittTom CruiseAntonio BanderasA vampire tells his epic life story: love, betrayal, loneliness, and hunger. For all the hype, I guess... I expected more. Kirsten Dunst was amazing, though. Absolutely amazing.
- DirectorDavid CronenbergStarsMichael FassbenderKeira KnightleyViggo MortensenA look at how the intense relationship between Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud gives birth to psychoanalysis.
