Chuck Aspegren conquered a small-time of fame after appearing in the Oscar winning film The Deer Hunter (1978). In fact, he wasn't a trained actor but he was a steel worker from Gary, Indiana, who happened to be in the right place and the right time. When the likes of Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken began researching their roles as steel workers, they acquainted this charismatic guy, who worked as a general foreman at U.S. Steel, at a local bar and next thing you know, the film director Michael Cimino liked his presence and decided to cast him as one of the friends of the leading actors. Aspegren had the real charm and presence, very natural on the role as Axel and one of the most unforgettable characters of all time. Despite the film's success, Aspegren didn't follow a career in the movie business and little is known about him afterwards.Axel in The Deer Hunter- Director

Though François Leterrier's career evolved from assistant director to writer and director, he left an important mark in cinema with an acting role as the leading man in Robert Bresson's immortal classic A Man Escaped (1956), as Fontaine, the man who skillfully tries several ways and attempts to escape from prison during World War II. He only acted once more in Resnais' Stavisky (1974) in the role of poet André Malraux.
After his work for Bresson, he was second assistant director in two films directed by Louis Malle: Elevator to the Gallows (1958) and The Lovers (1958), then assistant director in four other films. His directorial debut was in _Les mauvais coups (1961), a film starring Simone Signoret. In the following 30 years, Leterrier directed 20 projects in between theatrical films, TV movies and series, which include Un roi sans divertissement (1963), La chasse royale (1969), the final film of the Emmanuelle franchise in the 1970's Emmanuelle 3 (1977), _Rat Race (1980)_ and _Slices of Life (1985)_. Steven Prince was born in 1948. He is an actor and producer, known for Taxi Driver (1976), Mariah (2016) and Waking Life (2001).Easy Andy in Taxi Driver.- One film acting but an important one that cemented a young boy's career to cinema eternity. Edmund Moeschke, a non-professional actor who had the starring role in Roberto Rossellini's Germany Year Zero (1948) was sufficient enough for him to make an impression on audiences around the world. As the young Edmund Köhler, a kid who faces several life adversities in the post WWII Germany, Moeschke captivated and attracted the attention of critics and film buffs who were compelled by his dramatic acting and the character he played in Rossellini's film - a post war trilogy composed with other films such as Roma, Open City (1945) and Paisà (1946) - all part of his Neo-Realistic movement where the majority of the cast were composed by amateur actors to provide a more realistic approach of storytelling. Moeschke was part of this movement, composing a powerful and memorable character but unlike many of his contemporaries who worked with Rossellini - some made a few more films, he vanished from screen to never return, and he was never heard of again.Edmund in Germany Year Zero. Seriously, what happened to him?
- Fernando was the star of only one film in his short life. He played Pixote - a street child - in Pixote (1980). During his short period of fame, Fernando was seen as a symbol of hope for the Brazilian street kids. He grew up in a poor neighborhood of Diadema - a industrial city close to São Paulo - Brazil. Illiterate and poor, Fernando played Pixote at the age of 11 years old. His only previous experience in acting was an amateur play. After the success of Pixote, Fernando moved briefly to Rio de Janeiro. There, he tried his luck as an actor in a "novela" (Brazilian soap opera). The fame was brief, without literacy, he could not memorize the scripts. He ended up returning to Diadema. There, he had the same fate as many like him. He got involved with gangs and drug dealing. At age 19, he was killed inside his house by the police. The circumstances of his death are are still a mystery. Three of Fernando's brothers were also killed in the streets of the Brazilian inner cities. Fernando is survived by a daughter. Although he never lived in the streets and always had a family, he stands as a symbol of the Brazlian street children, until this date. The title role in Pixote.

- Hunter McCracken joined a limited and interesting group of non-professional actors whose first acting gig came on the hands of the great Terrence Malick and his masterpieces, along with Linda Manz in the acclaimed Days of Heaven (1978) and Q'orianka Kilcher in The New World (2005). All of them have in common was the fact of sharing scenes with great talents and they carried the films overshadowing the leading and more famous thespians. Hunter's role in The Tree of Life (2011) brought him recognition around the world while playing the tormented Young Jack, the young version of Sean Penn's character in the epic film.
The newcomer was almost the film lead, with moments and sequences that were unforgettable due to his strong, melancholic and multifaceted expressions. A true natural actor, he was discovered in a Texas school and beat more than 10000 candidates. Initially, he was cast in a minor role but during tests with Jessica Chastain and Brad Pitt the chemistry was fully visible and he landed the complex role that would mark his career. He received praise from audiences, some award nominations as breakthrough actor and won the Online Film & Television Association as Best Youth Performer.
Years have passed and still no sight of him on the screen since he's still in school years but he's sure that he wants to pursue an acting career and develop his great potential.Young Jack in The Tree of Life - Actor

Jeremy Blackman will always be remembered as the pressured and suffering Stanley from P.T. Anderson masterpiece Magnolia (1999), where the kid echoes sad expressions moments from the silent classic Dreyer film The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928). He showcases pain, fragility, a turmoil of emotion while facing an abusive father and the pressure of his peers during the Jimmy Gator show. Blackman gained notoriety with the role, a few awards and nominations, and appreciation from his fans who watch the monumental film several times.
Little is known about him besides the film except that he starred in a few others and he's also part of a band, where he sings, composes and plays. He is the son of Ian Blackman, who is an accomplished actor.Stanley Spector in Magnolia- Dillon Freasier has one of those incredible legendary Hollywood stories that doesn't happen often. A speeding ticket given to a casting director and a nice talk afterwards between that director and the police officer provided the chance of a lifetime to this local Texas kid in appearing in Paul Thomas Anderson's monumental film There Will Be Blood (2007). The officer was nothing less than Dillon Freasier's mother and the casting director had the chance to see the kid and wanted to cast him in the film, but the mother wasn't so sure she wanted her son to appear in a movie and didn't even know who was Daniel Day-Lewis, the leading actor who would be sharing most of the scenes with Dillon. Since Day-Lewis previous success was Gangs of New York (2002), the casting director provided a copy of that film to the mother. She was appalled in seeing such an intense and dangerous performance and couldn't imagine such man acting along her beloved kid. The film's team rushed in sending another film with Day-Lewis, the acclaimed The Age of Innocence (1993), where he played an educated gentleman, and that role convinced her in allowing Dillon to be part of Anderson's project.
Freasier was an elementary student in West Texas, with no previous acting experience but turned out to be a perfect choice for the role Anderson needed. Despite being unfamiliar with acting in front of cameras and specially along with one of the most respected actors of all time, Freasier succeed in a great way. As HW Plainview, the adopted son of oilman Daniel Plainview, the young star captivated audiences with his quiet, magnetic, intelligent presence and timing both in small moments or in more difficult sequences, specially the ones where he could only use his expressions and no sound to convey his emotions. The movie was a hit, received several award nominations and won two Academy Awards. Dillon earned nominations as Best Young Actor in two different awards (Young Artist Awards and the Online Film & Television Association).
Not much is known about his whereabouts or current line of work but it's quite certain that many audience await for his return to the big screen.HW in There Will Be Blood - He was born in Connecticut. Son of a Broadway director/writer/producer. One great film alone and one brilliant performance was enough to put Jeremy Black on the map for the delight of film-buffs around the globe, even though a part of us wanted to see more of him in the years to come. But Black loves the theatre and might not be that interesting in returning to Hollywood. Boyish, handsome, expressive yet frightening, somewhat menacing (one of those unforgettable faces) ...the duality of roles he displayed in the hit The Boys from Brazil (1978) could secure him a solid career in film business - either for similar roles in thrillers or horrors but other genres as well. He was unforgettable as the Hitler clones who was smart and mean enough to give a hard time to Laurence Oliver and Gregory Peck in Franklin J. Schaffner's solid thriller. Despite the film success, he simply vanished from view. Decided to move to New York to work in stage plays. We hope he'll return to the big screen someday.Jack Curry / Simon Harrington / Erich Doring in The Boys From Brazil
- Palma was a street drummer based in New York during the 1970's and 1980's, famous for his slick black hair and heavy makeup use, and also for his drumming routine that included several different styles - even though Gene Krupa was his favorite drummer of all time. He could use not only a minor drum, he could also perform with objects on the streets hitting his stick with precision and ability. Film lovers will remember him best for his minor yet unforgettable performance in Taxi Driver (1976) while Travis Bickle is having a date with Betsy in the classic film directed by Martin Scorsese. He continued his work on the streets for quite some time and even appeared (uncredited) in another film Hero at Large (1980), again playing a street drummer. The Street Drummer in Taxi Driver.
- An aristocratic face and presence and a confident voice granted Leonard Harris - an acquaintance of Martin Scorsese - a significant role in Marty's classic Taxi Driver (1976), playing the potential presidential candidate Senator Charles Palantine, a target Travis Bickle has to eliminate in order to impress the girl he wants to date (and who also happens to work for Palantine's campaign). He only has a few scenes in the film but certainly leaves a mark in all of those, especially his memorable exchange with Travis in the cab.
Harris wasn't actually an actor. Born in New York, he was a journalist who wrote obituaries and book reviews during his first years in journalism, and later on during an extensive time he was a culture critic during the late 1960s and early 1970s with many TV appearances. In between those works he wrote three novels. His other film credit is Hero at Large (1980), which also features Gene Palma, the street drummer who has a minor part in Taxi Driver.
He was married to Mary Ann Wurth for 12 years and they had two children. Harris died of pneumonia in Connecticut, at age 81.Charles Pallantine in Taxi Driver. - Renée Jeanne or Maria Falconetti, born in Pantin (not in Sermano, Corsica, as many film dictionaries wrongly attest) on July 21, 1892 and died in Buenos Aires on December 12, 1946, is a French actress of theater and cinema. Joining the troupe of the Odeon theater in 1916, she made her debut in "l'Arlésienne", and played the heroines of Saint-Georges de Bouhélier "The Life of a Woman", 1919. She made a short passage at the Comédie Française (1924-1925), where she plays Rosine among others in "La Dame aux camélias" and "Lorenzaccio". With just one film Mario Peixoto left a mark on cinema with his acclaimed masterpiece Limit (1931). The surrealistic and artistic film launched his film career but unfortunately due to several circumstances he never managed to release another film and outdo himself. Many Brazilian filmmakers were heavily influenced by the powerful images he created in Limit (1931).
Peixoto was born on 25 March, 1908 in Brussels, Belgium but some sources claim he was born in Rio de Janeiro. Coming from a wealthy family he went to study in England and at the time he dreamed of being an actor but his family against it. When he returned to Brazil after studying the films he saw abroad, during an informal conversation with friends about creating a new Brazilian cinema, more artistic and original, he was convinced to write a project that later on was accepted. That project was Limit (1931) and the rest is history. At age 21 he was writing, directing, producing and acting on the film, later on considered one of the greatest Brazilian films ever made.
His subsequent project "Onde a Terra Acaba" which starred his friend Carmen Santos was lost on a fire; and his third "Maré Baixa" never got filmed but he continued to write screenplays and ideas for a new film and even tried to return to directing many years after his classic film was released. Matthew Garber was a British child actor. Both of his parents were theatrical actors, but neither was particularly famous.
In 1963, Garber came to the attention of actor Roy Dotrice (father of Karen Dotrice) who was seeking potential child actors. Roy recommended Garber to the casting department of the Disney company, where young Garber's "artful dodges, like squinting, screwing up his nose, and brushing his hair back with one hand" were thought likely to make him stand out. He was cast in the film "The Three Lives of Thomasina" (1963), as the character Geordie McNab, a playmate to the Scottish girl Mary MacDhui (played by Karen Dotrice).
Garber next received a bigger role as the character Michael Banks in "Mary Poppins" (1964), one of the two charges of the protagonist nanny. Jane Banks, Michael's sister, was played by Karen Dotrice. The film was the greatest hit of Garber's career and is the role for which he is most remembered.
In 1967, Garber had his third and last film role, as the character Rodney Winthrop in "The Gnome-Mobile". In the film, Rodney and his sister Elizabeth Winthrop (played by Karen Dotrice) are trying to prolong the life of a 943-year-old gnome, who has lost the will to survive.
Following his brief film career, Garber returned to his school studies. He attended first St Paul's Primary School in Winchmore Hill, and then Highgate School in Highgate, North London. He graduated in 1972.
In 1976-1977, Garber was in India and contracted hepatitis. He returned to London in June 1977, seeking better medical treatment. It was too late as the disease had infected his pancreas. He died soon after, the official cause being hemorrhagic necrotizing pancreatitis. He was only 21-years-old. He was single and had no known children.
Garber's remains were cremated at St. Marylebone Crematorium, in East Finchley, London. Both of his parents died within a decade following his death. Fergus Garber, a surviving younger brother of Matthew, was never informed whether there was any memorial erected for his brother. Garber was posthumously named a Disney Legend in 2004.Michael Banks in Mary Poppins.- Frances Belle O'Connor was born on September 8, 1914 in Granite Falls, Reville County, Minnesota. She was born without arms, but learned to use her feet in incredibly dexterous ways. Combining her physical beauty and an outgoing personality, it made her a natural for the sideshow circuit. Billed as "The Living Venus de Milo," and with her mother as manager, she worked with various circuses such as Al G. Barnes, Cole Brothers and Sells-Floto before she settled at Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, where she worked for over 20 years until the mid-1940s.
Frances was remarkably agile with her feet, and during her act she would smoke a cigarette, drink coffee, use a knife and fork to cut her food, dab the corners of her mouth with a napkin, all with a ballerina-like grace. The most startling part of her act was when she would demonstrate her talent with firearms, and she would close her show by signing autographs. Because her legs functioned as her arms, Frances was obviously able to show her legs a great deal, and the innocent sexual undertones of her act actually benefited her in the particularly prudish era of the 1930's. Her beauty attracted scores of men and eligible suitors, and she reputedly turned down hundreds of marriage proposals during her career.
O'Connor appeared with numerous other human oddities in Freaks (1932), and performed various daily tasks which were complete normal to her. During the sequence at the wedding feast, she wears a pretty costume that had no sleeves at all, leaving her shoulders entirely bare and revealing the smooth skin where her arms would be. Unfortunately, this was Frances' only screen appearance.
Shortly after her mother passed away, Frances lost interest in the rigours of traveling and performing, and decided to completely retire from show business, disappeared into obscurity almost overnight. She spent the remainder of her days with her favorite hobby, knitting and sewing, and despite having many suitors in her lifetime, she never married and had no children. She passed away on January 30, 1982 in Long Beach, California at the age of 67.Armless Woman in Freaks. - Peter Robinson was born the son of Norwegian immigrants. He stated that during his childhood, he had a normal appearance until his early teens when his weight began to drop rapidly. He first went on exhibition in 1895, working at Coney Island and later Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
Robinson was married twice, both times to circus fat ladies. He married "Sweet Adaline" la France, his co-star in the Blue Ribbon Show in 1914. At the time of their marriage in Troy, New York, Pete (then known as "The Cigarette Fiend") was just 49 pounds and Adeline was 600. In fact, she was too large to enter the courtroom, so the judge performed the ceremony in the hallway. They honeymooned in Niagara Falls, but the marriage did not last.
In 1916, while with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. 37-year old, 58 lb. Robinson married for the second time at Madison Square Garden to 18-year-old Helen "Bunny" Smith (1898-1951). a 467-pound Coney Island fat lady. Bunny later related that he had been involved with no fewer than eight fat women before he married her. In their circus act, Pete played to a patriotic audience during World War I by claiming that Bunny had tried to fatten him up with her cooking so he could serve in the Army, although in reality he was too old for the service.
Apparently, over the years, the two were "married" over and over again for circus promotions purposes, and as an example, here is an article from the Indiana Evening Gazette dated November 26, 1924, eight years after they were originally married:
"The living skeleton has married the fat lady. Pete Robinson, who is 45 years old and weighs 58 pounds soaking wet, and Baby Bunny Smith, aged 23, weight 467, got the necessary papers and were married in the Municipal Building. The bridegroom wore a striped shirt, one stripe on each side. The witnesses were Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Harris, in whose home the bride and bridegroom have occupied rooms. Living skeletons have been marrying fat ladies in circuses ever since Barnum had a show. The romance of Baby and Pete started in a Barnum & Bailey show eight years ago. Mrs. Harris said to reporters after giving the newlyweds her blessing, 'I never had easier people to feed. They are wonderful. She makes up for what he leaves. And he makes up for what she doesn't do. They are certainly ideally suited.'"
Pete and Bunny seemed to find true love together, as friends reported that they were quite devoted to each other, and eventually had two children. They entertained crowds with a comical couples' dance on the Coney Island sideshow stage called Dreamland, and in 1928, Pete toured with a revue called "A Night at Coney Island," which performed at vaudeville theaters around the country, a rare experiment in those days.
Robinson only screen appearance was in Tod Browning's Freaks (1932) as a circus performer who is overjoyed as he celebrates the fact that his wife, the Bearded Lady (Olga Roderick) has just given birth to their child, who is also bearded. By all accounts, his character in the film, the chatty, good-natured fellow who plays poker in the back of the tent and celebrates his baby's birth with a round of fine cigars, was not much of a stretch for Pete. He was a jovial man who loved to stubbornly argue about politics, and was rumored to be a classically trained Shakespearian actor and an expert harmonica player.
Pete Robinson died in 1947 at the age of 72.Human Skeleton in Freaks. - Olga Roderick, Madame Olga, was born Jane Barnell in Wilmington, NC on January 3, 1871 (or February 28, 1877, depending on the source). Her father was a Russian Jew and her mother Catawba Indian. According to historians, she was growing hair by the age of two and was bearded at four. Her deformity caused her mother to believe that Jane was bewitched, so she sold her to the Great Orient Family Circus when her husband was away on business. Jane would later comment, "I have never been able to find out if Mamma got any money for me, or just gave me away to get rid of me. She hated me, I know that. Daddy told me years later that he gave her a good beating when he got home from Baltimore and found out what had happened."
The circus later merged with a larger circus and successfully toured Europe, eventually traveling to Germany. In Berlin, Jane contracted typhoid fever and taken to a local hospital, where she was not expected to live. Allegedly, after her recovery, she found that the circus had left without her, and she was placed in an orphanage. Her father finally tracked her down and brought her back to the United States, where she worked on her grandmother's farm in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Her neighbor, a circus strongman, invited her to join John Robinson's Circus, and at the age of 21, after trying several stage names (including Madame Olga), she settling on Lady Olga Roderick. At the time, her beard was 13 inches long, "the longest in the world."
During her lifetime, Lady Olga worked for more than 25 circuses, including Ringling Brothers, Forepaugh-Sells, Dreamland Circus Sideshow and Hubert's Dime Museum, earning between $20 and $100 per week. It was stated that she seemed to have an overtly inflated view of herself, and was not a terribly happy or friendly person to be around. She was a socialist and very political, expressing her opinions in no uncertain terms.
Lady Olga appeared in Tod Browning's Freaks (1932) as the wife of Pete Robinson, the Skeleton Man, celebrating the birth of their child (who also has a beard). After the film was released (and in later years), she was the most vocal about being very unhappy with the overall portrayal of the sideshow performers in the film, vowing never to work in Hollywood again. She said it was "an insult to all freaks everywhere" and "if the truth be known, we're all freaks together."
Barnell was married four times and had two children by her first husband. Her last marriage was to her "alleged" manager Thomas O'Boyle, who was an ex-clown and a sideshow talker at the gate of Hubert's Museum on 42nd Street. Her last circus performance was in 1938 with Ringling Brothers in New York City, although she continued making public appearances until her death.
Jane Barnell died on October 26, 1951 in Los Angeles, CA.Bearded Lady in Freaks. - Josephine Joseph was born in Austria of Polish-Austrian descent in 1913, whose body was allegedly split down the middle, one side male and the other female. She/he claimed to be a true intersex, or "hermaphrodite,' but there is no evidence to confirm whether this was the case or not. Hermaphrodites generally share the genitals of both sexes, but are not "divided," as circus performers would lead the general public to believe. This was known as a "gaffed" or fake presentation. Most likely, she/he was just a skilled male-female impersonator. One side of the body would be exercised, with shaved body hair and a suntan; the other side would be pale and flabby due to lack of exercise, and the pectoral muscle would resemble a woman's breast. The performer would then wear a split costume, a Tarzan-style loincloth on the "male" side, and a low-cut, tight-fitting blouse on the "female" side. In the majority of cases, half-and-half performers were men, so Josephine Joseph was most likely a male impersonator, with the feminine side being dominant.
At the age of 19, Josephine Joseph is best remembered for an appearance in the Tod Browning classic Freaks (1932). Although she/he only had two lines, she/he still appeared in a number of scenes, most notably at the wedding reception where she/he begins the chant, "We accept her, one of us! We accept her, one of us!" Another has her/him giving an alluring look to the circus strongman, Hercules, to which Roscoe Ates stammers, "I think she-he she-he likes you...but he dodo-don't!"
As of this posting, there is no other information on the life of Josephine Joseph.Half Woman-Half Man in Freaks. Still living?!? - Johnny Eck was born John Echkardt, twenty minutes after his twin brother Robert. The boys entered the sideshow circuit at the age of 12, where John was billed as "Johnny Eck, The Half-boy." Johnny went on to play a role in Tod Browning's Freaks (1932) before returning with his brother to Baltimore, where he became a screen painter. Johnny died January 5, 1991, at the age of 79, in the house where he was born.Half Boy in Freaks.
- Prince Randian was born in the Demarara district, British Guyana in 1871, the child of British Indian slaves. Born with tetra-amelia syndrome (the lacking of all four limbs), little is known about his early life or how he was discovered, but it seems his incredible adaptability did not go unnoticed. Reputedly, he was brought to the United States by P.T. Barnum in 1889 at the age of 18, performing as an "oddity" or "freak" at dime shows, museums and primarily at Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York
For his act, Randian was billed as "the human caterpillar who crawls on his belly like a reptile." He wore a one-piece wool garment that fit tightly over his body, giving him the appearance of a caterpillar, snake or potato. He was efficient at moving from place to place by wriggling his hips and shoulders in a snake-like motion. He would demonstrate his astonishing ability to fend for himself regardless of his handicap. He would shave himself by securing a razor in a wooden block, paint with a brush or write with a pen by using his lips, and most famously, roll and light his own cigarette in his only film appearance, Freaks (1932) (1932). Randian was also said to have been a skilled carpenter, using his mouth and shoulders to manipulate his tools, and he kept all of the props and materials used in his act in a wooden box that he reportedly constructed, painted and installed a lock by himself using a saw, knife and hammer. "Someday," he used to say, "I'll build myself a house."
Randian could speak English, German and French in addition to Hindi, his native language. He married early in life to a Hindu woman known only as Princess Sarah, who remained devoted to him throughout his long 45-year career in the sideshow. The couple had four daughters, plus a son who later became his manager. They settled at 174 Water Street in Paterson, New Jersey.
Prince Randian died of a heart attack at 7:00 PM on December 19, 1934, shortly after his comeback performance at Sam Wagner's 14th Street Museum in New York. He was 63 years old.The Living Torso in Freaks. - Actress
Born in Georgia and exhibited in sideshows along with sister Jenny Lee Snow. They were billed as Pip and Flip, Pipo and Zipo or under similar such names. At one time they were managed by their brother, Cliff. They appeared at Coney Island in the late 20s and were still being exhibited as late as the early 40s.Pinhead in Freaks.- Elvira and Jenny Lee Snow, also known as the Snow Twins, were born in Georgia, but they were often advertised in their sideshow act as being from the Yucatan of Mexico and sometimes from Australia. (Some reports state that they were not actually twins at all). Reputedly, Elvira's birthdate was March 2, 1901, and Jenny Lee was said to be 12 years younger, but as is the history of circus sideshow acts, the fact can vary dramatically.
They both suffered from microcephaly, characterized by abnormally small craniums, which in the language of the sideshow gave rise to the term "pinhead." Like most other microcephalics, they had severe mental limitations and were said to have the mental capacity of toddlers, requiring constant watching and care. Essentially rented from their families, they were based at the World Circus Sideshow at Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York in the late 1920's into the 1940's. They were variously known as Zip and Pip, Pip and Flip, Pippo and Zippo and other similar names, and at one time, they were managed by their brother, Cliff. Their only film appearance was in Tod Browning's Freaks (1932), along with another microcephalic, Schlitzie.
Jenny Lee passed away in 1934, and Elvira in 1976.Pinhead in Freaks. - Elizabeth Green (aka Betty Green) was an American sideshow performer who was presented to audiences as "The Human Stork" during the early 1900's. Elizabeth was actually the first "Koo Koo the Bird Girl" (predating Minnie Woolsey), and toured with Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey Circus in the 1920s and '30s.
Her background is obscure, but it's generally accepted that a genetic condition was responsible for her unusual features, and she was described in a newspaper article as "a cross between a crane and a shaved dachshund." Also, she might have suffered from mild retardation, although she had no other known medical problems. Anton La Vey, who had worked in the circus with several oddities and later founded the Church of Satan, claimed that Betty Green was not a freak at all and had entered the profitable profession of circus life by exaggerating her worst features: deliberating sucking in her cheeks and bulging out her eyes. Some claim that Green, being one of the "less weird-looking" attractions, was placed at the entrance to the oddities sideshow to catch the attention of passersby. Evidently, she had a sense of humor about her condition, because her comedy act involved dancing like a bird in a feathered bodysuit, large bird feet, and a gigantic feather in her cap.
She was a first-rate comedienne, but she also had a rare aptitude for business; she owned five large apartment houses in the Boston area and managed them herself when she wasn't touring with the circus. Her agent said of her, "She may be koo koo enough to be able to make people laugh, but she's not koo koo when it comes to signing contracts."
Betty was an avid movie fan and had autographs of almost every well-known star in the picture business, securing them when Hollywood stars came to see her sideshow act. Her only film credit is Tod Browning's "Freaks" (1932), and it's claimed that Green only signed the contract to appear in "Freaks" for the opportunity to get the autograph of her favorite actor, Ronald Colman, and she was especially eager to leave for Hollywood immediately because she had heard of Colman's impending divorce. She appears in several scenes in "Freaks," including a conversation with the Armless Girl, Frances O'Connor, while seated at a table eating dinner.
At the time she obtained the role in "Freaks," Minnie Woolsey had already received billing as Koo Koo the Bird Girl. Betty's thoughts on this situation are unknown, but after the film was completed, she returned to the sideshow and continued her role as Koo Koo. It's unfortunate that because Minnie was featured in the table-dance scene instead of Elizabeth, Minnie should be commonly associated with the Bird Girl.
No information is known about the date or cause of Elizabeth Green's death.Bird Girl in Freaks. - Actress
"Koo Koo the Bird Girl" was born Minnie Woolsey in Rabun County, Georgia in 1880. She suffered from a rare congenital skeletal disorder called Virchow-Sechel or Harper's syndrome, also known as bird-headed dwarfism or nanocephaly. This very rare syndrome is characterized by various physical shortcomings, such as a small head, a beak-like nose, and a receding jaw, as well as stunted growth and mental limitations. In Minnie's case, it left her toothless, blind, and almost completely bald. The story goes that she was rescued from a dismal existence in a Georgia insane asylum by an enterprising showman who thought he could cash in on her strange looks alone. She began her showbiz career as "Minnie Ha-Ha," an obvious play on North Carolina's Minnehaha Falls. In her act, she appeared in a phony Native American costume and danced and shook excitedly, speaking gibberish to the sideshow audience. She was initially reluctant and shy, but soon she came to love the attention she received.
There is frequent confusion about the name "Koo Koo the Bird Girl" in sideshow circles. The first "Koo Koo" was Elizabeth "Betty" Green (also known as "The Stork Woman"); Woolsey actually took the name at a later date. Although they both appeared in the film "Freaks" (1932), Minnie is credited as "The Bird Girl" and Elizabeth by her real name. Minnie had no lines in "Freaks," but she made a lasting impression on moviegoers when she dressed in a feathery costume, complete with a tiny plumed cap and chicken-like feet, and shimmied on the table during the wedding feast of trapeze artist Cleopatra and Hans the dwarf.
In later years, Minnie worked at Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York as "Koo Koo, the Blind Girl from Mars". By that time, age or perhaps boredom had replaced her dancing, and she would primarily stand or sit in a near- comatose state, confounding spectators by failing to respond to any visual stimuli.
Exactly how long Minnie performed with the circus is unknown, but some accounts show that she was still living, and almost run over by a car, in the 1960s, when she would have been in her 80s.Herself in Freaks.- Josette Maccario is known for Short Cuts (1993).Josette Kaiser in Short Cuts.

Freddie grew up in the Washington Heights section of New York City. As a chubby child, he was often bullied, but was quite creative and bright in his extracurricular activities (he was known to have handmade a ham radio, which he used regularly). Early on, he aspired to become famous, and, after enrolling at Fiorella LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts, he obtained a job at the Improv Club, in New York, where people started to take notice of his comedic talent (but the long hours he worked at night, balanced by increasing absences in school, caused him to drop out of high school to pursue comedy full-time). He changed his name to Freddie Prinze (to indicate that he was "The Prince of Comedy"). In December 1973, he was invited to perform on "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson", which proved to be a breakthrough performance, as he was invited to chat with Johnny after his performance (only two other comedians have enjoyed that privilege). Soon afterwards, he won the role of "Chico Rodriquez" in an NBC-produced TV series called Chico and the Man (1974)(he and co-star Jack Albertson forged a great friendship while working on the show). In 1975, he released a comedy album, titled "Looking Good", and further boosted his popularity with appearances on various TV shows (such as the "Tony Orlando & Dawn" show). In Las Vegas in August 1975, he married Katherine Cochran, with whom he had a son, Freddie Prinze, Jr. (born on March 8, 1976 in Albuquerque, New Mexico). He loved his role as a father, and his growing popularity. But all the fame had a downside to it: Freddie developed an addiction to drugs (namely Quaaludes and cocaine), and was subsequently arrested in Nov. 1976 for DUI. His marriage was dissolving, and he separated from his wife. He started to mention thoughts of suicide to many of his close friends and family including his friends singer Tony Orlando and comedian David Brenner. In January 1977, following his final public appearance at the Inaugural Ball for President Jimmy Carter, 22-year-old Freddie called his mother, friends and manager and announced that he was committing suicide. While his manager tried to stop him, he placed a .32 caliber pistol against his temple and pulled the trigger. He was rushed to UCLA Medical Center with a massive head wound. Badejo's father would later serve as the director-general of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation, a state-owned radio-broadcasting organization.
Badejo decided to follow a career as a visual artist. He studied abroad in the United States before moving to London, England, to get specialized training as a graphic designer. Bodejo was unusually tall, standing at a height of 2.08 meters (6 feet and 10 inches). Director Ridley Scott's casting crew was seeking a tall person to play the creature in his upcoming film.
