- Miriam McDonald was born on July 26, 1987 in Oakville, Ontario. She is a Canadian actress known for playing the role of "Emma Nelson", the main character on Degrassi: The Next Generation (2001). Mike Lobel is a Canadian picture editor, director, actor and musician. He was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to parents of Polish and Ashkenazi Jewish descent and grew up alongside his two siblings.
Lobel showed an early interest in music and began studying drums at the age of nine. Later, he attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts, where he majored in music and drama. During this time, he formed musical groups, including "Civilian" and "Boys Who Say No," and began exploring acting.
Lobel's first film role was in an adaptation of Oliver Twist, entitled Twist (2003), which was directed by Jacob Tierney and starring Nick Stahl. However, Lobel's most notable role to date is that of "Jay Hogart," a manipulative school bully on MTV's Degrassi: The Next Generation (2001).
In 2009, Lobel starred in the film Suck (2009) as "Sam," the drummer of a touring rock and roll band besieged by vampires. He starred alongside rock & roll legends Alice Cooper, Henry Rollins and Iggy Pop. He also appeared on television shows like Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye (2002), The Best Years (2007), and the HBO Max series Detention Adventure (2019). He has also starred in films such as Selling Innocence (2005), Booky Makes Her Mark (2006), and Degrassi Goes Hollywood (2009).
In addition to acting, Lobel co-founded the synth-pop band Future Peers in 2014 and has toured with the group across Canada, America, and Europe. Toronto native Cassie Steele joins the cast of THE L.A. COMPLEX as Abby. The aspiring Canadian actress is best known for her role as Manny Santos on 10 seasons of the internationally acclaimed drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation. Cassie was a 2003 nominee and the 2002 winner of a Young Artist Award for Best Ensemble Actor in a TV Series for her portrayal of Manny Santos. THE L.A. COMPLEX will premiere in Canada starting on January 12, 2012.
Cassie's other television credits include a lead role in the Disney MOW Lamont's Maccabees, young Sydney in the series Relic Hunter (2002 Young Artist Award nomination for Best Performance in a TV Drama Series), Julie in Full Court Miracle (2004 Young Artist Award nomination for Best Performance in a TV Movie), and a guest appearance on Doc. Aubrey Drake Graham was born in Toronto, Ontario, the son of Dennis Graham, an African-American musician born in Memphis, Tennessee, and Sandi (Sher) Graham, a Canadian Jewish educator. As a young man, Drake appeared in several commercials, for such retailers as Sears and GMC. In 2001, Drake rose to fame playing the role of "Jimmy Brooks", a character on Degrassi: The Next Generation (2001), a basketball star who is confined to a wheelchair after being shot by a classmate. In 2006, Drake launched his music career by releasing his first mix tape, "Room for Improvement". Three years later, his third mix tape, "So Far Gone", garnered him critical and commercial success, and, the following year, he released his official debut album, "Thank Me Later", to generally positive reviews. Melinda Leanna Shankar is a Guyanese-Canadian actress best known for playing Alli Bhandari from the beginning of Season 8 in Degrassi: The Next Generation and Indira "Indie" Mehta on YTV series, 'How to be Indie.' Melinda made her starring mark in 2008 in the 8th season of Degrassi as Alli Bhandari, a confident young women in high school, which she continues to play. She co-starred in a Disney Channel Original Movie, 'Harriet the Spy' as Janie Gibbs alongside with Aislinn Paul, who plays Clare Edwards on Degrassi and Disney Channel's Jennifer Stone.
