- DirectorC. Jay CoxStarsWes RamseySteve SandvossMary Kay PlaceA promiscuous gay party animal falls for a young Mormon missionary, leading to crisis, cliché, and catastrophe.Although it's pretty predictable, and has a super-mega-happy-ending; this film is pretty entertaining, and informative. I keep trying to get the neighborhood Mormons to come and watch it, but they refuse...so much for strength of Faith.
Casting is solid, you have the token flamer and the curious home-grown stud...and they hook up- it is called fiction for a reason. - DirectorAng LeeStarsWinston ChaoMay ChinAh-Lei GuaTo satisfy his nagging parents, a gay landlord and a female tenant agree to a marriage of convenience, but his parents arrive to visit and things get out of hand.Keeping in mind that this was directed in '93, this film tackles the controversial matter of homosexuality and then as an added challenge throws in the very steeped in history Chinese culture. Yes, our heroes are a mixed race couple facing the imminent threat from "visiting parents". So they concoct a fake wedding to fend off the Chinese man's parents.
All in all a good show. - DirectorSimon ShoreStarsBen SilverstoneBrad GortonCharlotte BrittainA tenderly romantic coming-of-age story as two boys in a British school fall in love.Set in a High School in England, this movie is about a gay senior secretly sneaking off to get some man on man action. In his pursuits, in accidentally discovers that the High School jock is actually gay. This discovery leads our boy through fields of bliss and pain, when then he ultimately realizes that people should just "get real".
This is a coming of age kind of movie, also a "geek-chic" kind of thing. - DirectorMiles SwainStarsLarry SullivanSteve BraunRay BakerRomance, politics, sex and humor all collide during two men's 11-year journey of passion, self-discovery and adventure.Where "Latter Days" has the happy ending, this one has a bitter sweet one. This film spans 20+ years over the lives of our protagonists, and their "fag hag". Again one of them is closeted and the other, not (a thread common in gay movies).
When you boil this film down you get, "To thy own self, be true". Shakespear, who'd a thunk it? - DirectorMiguel AlbaladejoStarsJosé Luis García-PérezDavid CastilloEmpar FerrerPedro, a gay man with an active social life and many friends, takes in his nephew Bernardo for a couple weeks. When the arrangement becomes permanent , Pedro turns to his friends for guidance as he and Bernardo forge a household together.Set in Spain, a HIV positive bear finds out that he has a son. Well of course right off the bat this news isn't well received. The direction of the movie is quite predictable, but it is always interesting to see how the gay community is perceived in other parts of the world. Plus the son is adorable, I guess it's only American kids that can't act.
- DirectorLaura MuscardinStarsThomas TrabacchiRiccardo SalernoDavide BechiniClaudio is HIV-positive and lead a normal life, at work, with your family, with your boyfriend, until an unexpected passion arises from a one-night stand. This one is set in Italy, and this time the two guys in question are both HIV positive. One, is kind of uptight. Although he's in a relationship, things start to get a little boring for him. That's where the other guy comes in. Now, the uptight man is taking meds to control the HIV, whereas the other simply wants to live life as it happens.
Overall it's well directed, beautiful scenery, but alas there's only so many directions where you can take the gay genre to... - DirectorGreg BerlantiStarsTimothy OlyphantDean CainZach BraffAn insight into the turbulent lives and loves of a gay clique based in Los Angeles. This movie is basically a kind of gay fraternity. Its got Dean Cain, Zach Braff, and Timothy Olyphant (Who looks awesome in jeans...did you see him in "The Crazies"). The only bad thing was seeing John Mahoney (Frasier's dad) in drag...oh the things you can't un-see. Kind of like Willam Defoe in drag...
- DirectorCraig ChesterStarsCraig ChesterMalcolm GetsParker PoseyFollows two New York City couples, one heterosexual and one gay, who explore the peaks and the valleys of their respective relationships.Coming in at #8 is this little gem. Both Adam and Steve met each other 20 odd years ago in a brief but gross manner. Now in the present, they meet again with no idea that they've met before. This is a good flick because: neither of them are token flamers, both are out, there's a dance studio filled with gay cowboys, and slap stick humor. This leaves nothing but character development, which is a good thing. It's at #8 because the main characters are somewhat unmemorable, but Parker Posie and Chris Kattan are golden.
- DirectorMichael MayerStarsColin FarrellDallas RobertsRobin WrightA boy who has experienced many losses in his life grows to manhood and enters into a love triangle with a woman and his boyhood friend.Ha! You thought Brokeback would make it, but I have to give it to this flick because the flow was much better, development was better, and casting was better. In this movie, Colin isn't gay per se, but rather, he "loves" unconditionally...guys, girls..sheep...A guy like that, who wouldn't love him. I think as Colin movies go, this is one of his best.
- DirectorLab Ky MoStarsGlenn MulhernBrendan MackeySteven BerkoffTwo Irish lads stumble through London's gay scene.C'mon, look at the title...you just gotta watch it. Basically, two Irish guys try to make a name for themselves in England...but instead become male prostitutes...and one of them kind of likes it. The 9 dead gay guys come into play as these two bungle their way out of debt from an unsavory bull dyke...or was he a tranny...Anyways it's worth several laughs, and is refreshing to watch because it doesn't tug at heart strings, or make social commentary; it's strictly 9 dead gay guys.
