Best Movies I've Ever Seen
Here's the list of my favorite movies. This is really mixed, because in the list are undeniable classics (from der Deutsche Expressionismus to Kubrick) and also movies that altough are not that great (actually one can consider them as truly bad) are movies that I like (e.g. Doom oder Predator).
I have made an editing to the list, adding some new that I saw and removing other that I saw but I don't like anymore. I also demoted some and put other higher.

- DirectorTim BurtonStarsJohnny DeppHelena Bonham CarterAlan RickmanThe legendary tale of a barber who returns from wrongful imprisonment to 1840s London, bent on revenge for the rape and death of his wife, and resumes his trade while forming a sinister partnership with his fellow tenant, Mrs. Lovett. This is by far, the best movie I've ever seen. From the very beginning the story just get you sticked to your seat. The songs are really powerful, as the acting and of course the story. I still can't believe Depp did not win the Academy Award for his performance here.
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsLeonardo DiCaprioEmily MortimerMark RuffaloTeddy Daniels and Chuck Aule, two US marshals, are sent to an asylum on a remote island in order to investigate the disappearance of a patient, where Teddy uncovers a shocking truth about the place. The way Martin Scorsese developed the story was just magnificent. Leonardo Di Caprio has showed once again that he is a mature actor and one of the best of all time. A masterpiece, a must-see film.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsMorgan FreemanBrad PittKevin SpaceyTwo detectives, a rookie and a veteran, hunt a serial killer who uses the seven deadly sins as his motives.Absolutely brilliant! Brad Pitt at his best. One of the most thrilling movies in history. I still can't understand why this movie didn't win Oscar for best movie, director, actor, production, etc. This is one of the most underrated films ever, by only getting a nomination for Best Film Editing. Nevertheless, I consider it so great that is closing the "podium" of this list. A jewel of cinema.
- DirectorRobert WieneStarsWerner KraussConrad VeidtFriedrich FeherHypnotist Dr. Caligari uses a somnambulist, Cesare, to commit murders. This film can be considered rightly as the birth of German cinema and is the first German Expressionist film. It is a wonderful reflection of a country deeply fallen into chaos by the WWI. Never before a film has had such an influence on the public life of ordinary citizens.
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari’s unique visual style made use of the Expressionist style and an unrelated circular motif in order to stress the inward fears and anxieties felt by many Germans while at the same time forcing them to confront the continual cycle of authoritarian power. - DirectorDavid LynchStarsNaomi WattsLaura HarringJustin TherouxAfter a car wreck on Mulholland Drive renders a woman amnesiac, she and a Hollywood-hopeful search for clues and answers across Los Angeles in a twisting venture beyond dreams and reality.Well, I've seen this film a lot of times and still it breaks my head. I'm trying to solve and decode a lot of things about this film, which in my opinnion is David Lynch's masterpiece. Also, Naomi Watts was brilliant, wonderful!
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsMalcolm McDowellPatrick MageeMichael BatesIn the future, a sadistic gang leader is imprisoned and volunteers for a conduct-aversion experiment, but it doesn't go as planned.Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece. This is one of the most violent films I've seen in my whole life, but it is just depicting real life. This is a Cult Film and I think it still will be up-to-date in 100 years from now.
- DirectorFritz LangStarsPeter LorreEllen WidmannInge LandgutWhen the police in a German city are unable to catch a child-murderer, other criminals join in the manhunt. The film's story was inspired by the career of a serial killer in Dusseldorf. In "M,” Franz Becker preys on children -- offering them candy and friendship, and then killing them. "M" is a portrait of a diseased society, one that seems even more decadent than the other portraits of Berlin in the 1930s; its characters have no virtues and lack even attractive vices.
"M" was Lang's first sound picture, and he was wise to use dialogue so sparingly. Many early talkies felt they had to talk all the time, but Lang allows his camera to prowl through the streets and dives, providing a rat's-eye view. The film also has one of the most memorable, brilliant monologues ever seen on a film. - DirectorFritz LangStarsBrigitte HelmAlfred AbelGustav FröhlichIn a futuristic city sharply divided between the working class and the city planners, the son of the city's mastermind falls in love with a working-class prophet who predicts the coming of a savior to mediate their differences.Industrial Revolution is here! This is a classic. More than 80 years has passed since the premiere of Metropolis, and nothing seems to have changed during this long period of time. The workers on the underground and a few powerful at the top.
- DirectorPaul LeniStarsMary PhilbinConrad VeidtJulius MolnarWhen a proud noble refuses to kiss the hand of the despotic King James in 1690, he is cruelly executed and his son surgically disfigured. This is one of the final treasures of German silent Expressionism. This story, set in 17th century England, was written by Victor Hugo, and to put it in a nutshell depicts a good man, condemned to smile widely for an entire lifetime, a man so horribly aware of his disfigurement that he reveals it only on the stage, as a way to earn a living. But the plot is way much more complicated.
This film is a melodrama, at times even a swashbuckler, but so steeped in Expressionist gloom that it plays like a horror film. Because of the director's mastery of visual style, the film is more disturbing than it might have been. Dramatic lighting left much of the screen in darkness. Concealment and enhancement, not revelation, was the assignment of the camera. - DirectorDavid FincherStarsBrad PittEdward NortonMeat LoafAn insomniac office worker and a devil-may-care soap maker form an underground fight club that evolves into much more.Another fantastic performance by Brad Pitt. Edward Norton just shows that he is also a great actor and this is another brilliant movie by David Fincher. A must see.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsBrad PittCate BlanchettTilda SwintonTells the story of Benjamin Button, a man who starts aging backwards with consequences.
- DirectorLana WachowskiLilly WachowskiStarsKeanu ReevesLaurence FishburneCarrie-Anne MossWhen a beautiful stranger leads computer hacker Neo to a forbidding underworld, he discovers the shocking truth--the life he knows is the elaborate deception of an evil cyber-intelligence.This is in my oppinion one of the most original films ever made. Of course the main theme of the movie has been depicted before, the way it is showed here is brilliant. Are we connected to another form of reality, and we have no idea what is real or unreal? Fantasic.
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsBrad PittDiane KrugerEli RothIn Nazi-occupied France during World War II, a plan to assassinate Nazi leaders by a group of Jewish U.S. soldiers coincides with a theatre owner's vengeful plans for the same.I love the timing of this movie. Also I love the fact that the film is depicting German Army and Nazis as the victims of the brutality of war. I never seen this before, so is quite original. Christopher Waltz did just a perfect performance as Colonel Landa.
- DirectorAndrew StantonStarsBen BurttElissa KnightJeff GarlinIn the distant future, a small waste-collecting robot inadvertently embarks on a space journey that will ultimately decide the fate of mankind.A beutiful movie, fantastic animation and production as usual from PIXAR Studios. The earth covered in garbage seems to be where we humans are leading our planet whether we want to or not... a movie that makes you think.
- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsAnthony PerkinsJanet LeighVera MilesA Phoenix secretary embezzles $40,000 from her employer's client, goes on the run and checks into a remote motel run by a young man under the domination of his mother.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsKeir DulleaGary LockwoodWilliam SylvesterAfter uncovering a mysterious artifact buried beneath the Lunar surface, a spacecraft is sent to Jupiter to find its origins: a spacecraft manned by two men and the supercomputer HAL 9000.Though I did not like this film the first time I saw it because its slow pace, once I rewatched it I could get all the art and the genius behind it. I think about this movie as a manifesto of how we humans are nothing but a speck of dust adrift.
- DirectorJohn McTiernanStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerCarl WeathersKevin Peter HallA team of commandos on a mission in a Central American jungle find themselves hunted by an extraterrestrial warrior. This is for sure an all-time-classic. Marking a whole generation. The story is fluid and very entertaining. Mayny people think that because it is a Schwarzenegger film and there are a lot of bullets flying all over the place, it is a bad film. But, I find this movie quite catchy for its story and performances.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsTom CruiseDakota FanningTim RobbinsAn alien invasion threatens the future of humanity. The catastrophic nightmare is depicted through the eyes of one American family fighting for survival. The thing that likes to me the most from this movie is that show the 'human spirit' in all its glory when a big crisis is confronted: afraid, violent, sad, mad and in a few cases caring for each other. Fantastic special effects, though I was expecting that finally in a movie the human race was destroyed.
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsJohn TravoltaUma ThurmanSamuel L. JacksonThe lives of two mob hitmen, a boxer, a gangster and his wife, and a pair of diner bandits intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption. The most I like from this film (apart from the way the stories begin to interconnect each other) is the Bruce Willis' performance. After some disastrous movies, he showed that he was so good that was up to the challenge of being one of the main characters in a Quentin Tarantino film.
- DirectorMary HarronStarsChristian BaleJustin TherouxJosh LucasA wealthy New York City investment banking executive, Patrick Bateman, hides his alternate psychopathic ego from his co-workers and friends as he delves deeper into his violent, hedonistic fantasies.
- DirectorPaul Thomas AndersonStarsDaniel Day-LewisPaul DanoCiarán HindsA story of family, religion, hatred, oil and madness, focusing on a turn-of-the-century prospector in the early days of the business.
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsRobert De NiroNick NolteJessica LangeA convicted rapist, released from prison after serving a fourteen-year sentence, stalks the family of the lawyer who originally defended him. This I'd say is the first Martin Scorsese's horror film. This movie is absolutely brilliant. Is no longer the horror story of evil trying to conquer good. Here the evil is balanced by an overwhelmingly dysfunctional family, bretrayal and mistrust. An absolutely horror classic.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsJack NicholsonShelley DuvallDanny LloydA family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where a sinister presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from both past and future. As usual, Stanley Kubrick is masterful. Once again he showed that his mind was ahead in time and not everybody was able to see the genius of this movie. Now, 31 years after its premiere, is considerer one of the jewels of cinema and I highly recommend it.
- DirectorElia KazanStarsVivien LeighMarlon BrandoKim HunterDisturbed Blanche DuBois moves in with her sister in New Orleans and is tormented by her brutish brother-in-law while her reality crumbles around her. This movie is fantastic! The most impressive feature there is the lighting. Absolutely brilliant production and performance by everybody involved. A must-see!
- DirectorBarry LevinsonStarsAl PacinoBrenda VaccaroJohn GoodmanA look at the life and work of doctor-assisted suicide advocate Jack Kevorkian. The life of Dr. Jack Kevorkian, showing the real picture about his pursuit for making euthanasia a legal procedure. Fantastic performance by Al Pacino and by everybody involved. Great direction and photography.
- DirectorDarren AronofskyStarsEllen BurstynJared LetoJennifer ConnellyThe drug-induced utopias of four Coney Island people are shattered when their addictions run deep..The drama of drug addictions, going from chemical substances to television itself. This was the first work from Jeniffer Conelly that caught my eye. A fantastic piece of art.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsLeonardo DiCaprioJoseph Gordon-LevittElliot PageA thief who steals corporate secrets through the use of dream-sharing technology is given the inverse task of planting an idea into the mind of a C.E.O., but his tragic past may doom the project and his team to disaster. The timing of this movie is perfect, absolutely perfect. And way the story is developed is nothing else but brilliant. Still, I am positive that this is a very overrated movie and I don't think this is a film to be in any top 10.
- DirectorSam MendesStarsKevin SpaceyAnnette BeningThora BirchA sexually frustrated suburban father has a mid-life crisis after becoming infatuated with his daughter's best friend.A truly fantastic depiction of American life, regarding beauty of life, death, self-awareness, power, love, mid-life crises, bureaucracy corruption, pedophilia, homophobia, adultery, spouse abuse, child abuse, teen-age troubles and predispositions to materialism, physical attraction/shallowness and youthfulness. A MUST-see film.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsGuy PearceCarrie-Anne MossJoe PantolianoA man with short-term memory loss attempts to track down his wife's murderer. This is one of the most original ideas ever told in a film and I think this is the best work of director Christopher Nolan. You just need to watch the movie over and over again to understand it fully.
- DirectorJonathan DemmeStarsJodie FosterAnthony HopkinsScott GlennA young F.B.I. cadet must receive the help of an incarcerated and manipulative cannibal killer to help catch another serial killer, a madman who skins his victims.
- DirectorJames CameronStarsSigourney WeaverMichael BiehnCarrie HennDecades after surviving the Nostromo incident, Ellen Ripley is sent out to re-establish contact with a terraforming colony but finds herself battling the Alien Queen and her offspring. This was definitely an antidote to the first part which I consider it to be to slowed paced and just a little bit boring. Here Lt. Ripley turns from passive mode to attack mode. The pace of the movie is just fantastic and keep you glued to your seat.
- DirectorJames CameronStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerLinda HamiltonEdward FurlongA cyborg, identical to the one who failed to kill Sarah Connor, must now protect her ten year old son John from an even more advanced and powerful cyborg. The second part of the the Terminator saga turned out to be fantastic! It was a lot better than the first one and that part is not bat at all! The VFX are stunning, the story is powerful and is very well written and acted. Great movie!
- DirectorLuc BessonStarsBruce WillisMilla JovovichGary OldmanIn the colorful future, a cab driver unwittingly becomes the central figure in the search for a legendary cosmic weapon to keep Evil and Mr. Zorg at bay.
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsAsa ButterfieldChloë Grace MoretzChristopher LeeIn 1931 Paris, an orphan living in the walls of a train station gets wrapped up in a mystery involving his late father and an automaton. This is a fantastic and very beautiful movie, which is an excellent tribute to the film making art. Another masterpiece from Martin Scorsese.
- DirectorMatthew VaughnStarsAaron Taylor-JohnsonNicolas CageChloë Grace MoretzDave Lizewski is an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan who one day decides to become a superhero, even though he has no powers, training or meaningful reason to do so.Beyond the laugh and the inherent humor that this movie has, this movie has a lot of real social elements that make you think about your role in society. Can't wait for the sequence.
- DirectorDarren AronofskyStarsNatalie PortmanMila KunisVincent CasselNina is a talented but unstable ballerina on the verge of stardom. Pushed to the breaking point by her artistic director and a seductive rival, Nina's grip on reality slips, plunging her into a waking nightmare.
- DirectorIngmar BergmanStarsMax von SydowGunnar BjörnstrandBengt EkerotA knight returning to Sweden after the Crusades seeks answers about life, death, and the existence of God as he plays chess against the Grim Reaper during the Black Plague.I'd like to think about this movie as an atheist manifesto and the silly belief in an afterlife. Both sides played brilliantly by the actors... quote: "Is it so cruelly inconceivable to grasp God with the senses? Why should He hide himself in a mist of half-spoken promises and unseen miracles? ...What is going to happen to those of us who want to believe but aren't able to?"
- DirectorPete DocterBob PetersonStarsEdward AsnerJordan NagaiJohn Ratzenberger78-year-old Carl Fredricksen travels to Paradise Falls in his house equipped with balloons, inadvertently taking a young stowaway.PIXAR has done it again! The adventures of this old man can make you cry a little bit. And I think that if some characters made of polygons, vertices and edges can shrink your heart for at least one minute, the story has been developed not just brilliantly, but perfectly.
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsLeonardo DiCaprioCate BlanchettKate BeckinsaleA biopic depicting the early years of legendary director and aviator Howard Hughes' career from the late 1920s to the mid 1940s.
- DirectorTerry GilliamStarsBruce WillisMadeleine StoweBrad PittIn a future world devastated by disease, a convict is sent back in time to gather information about the man-made virus that wiped out most of the human population on the planet.
- DirectorRobert ZemeckisStarsTom HanksHelen HuntPaul SanchezA FedEx executive undergoes a physical and emotional transformation after crash landing on a deserted island.
- DirectorJohn LasseterJoe RanftStarsOwen WilsonBonnie HuntPaul NewmanOn the way to the biggest race of his life, a hotshot rookie race car gets stranded in a rundown town and learns that winning isn't everything in life.Another classic by PIXAR. Friendship tested to the maximum. The most I like from this movie is the way "Lightning McQueen" evolves constantly into a better personality. From selfish and childish to mature and reliable friend.
- DirectorCarlos SaldanhaStarsRay RomanoJohn LeguizamoDenis LearyManny, Sid and Diego discover that the ice age is coming to an end, and join everybody for a journey to higher ground. On the trip, they discover that Manny is not in fact the last of the woolly mammoths.I find this part of the Ice Age saga more fun than the others two, not that those are bad at all, they're also really good, but I like more the pace of this one, the jokes and the character and story development.
- DirectorMatthew VaughnStarsJames McAvoyMichael FassbenderJennifer LawrenceIn the 1960s, superpowered humans Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr work together to find others like them, but Erik's vengeful pursuit of an ambitious mutant who ruined his life causes a schism to divide them.Absolutely fantastic movie, it made me wanna watch all over again the X-Men Trilogy. Very well paced, directed and produced as usual from Marvel Studios.
- DirectorChristian AlvartStarsDennis QuaidBen FosterCam GigandetTwo crew members of a spaceship wake up from hypersleep to discover that all their colleagues are missing. Despite this, it appears that they are not alone. For sure, some people will say 'what the hell is doing this movie amongst the others in the list?'... well, though is obvious that Pandorum is not the ultimate piece of art in the movie world, the film is depicting something I never saw before, and it is the effects of space travelling without the 'Star Wars' or 'Star Trek' technology, but actual technology... the dangers of long term travels in human psyche...
- DirectorRidley ScottStarsLeonardo DiCaprioRussell CroweMark StrongA CIA agent on the ground in Jordan hunts down a powerful terrorist leader while being caught between the unclear intentions of his American supervisors and Jordan Intelligence. The chase that is developed during the whole film is brilliantly performed by every single actor. You'll never who you can trust, who's telling the truth and who's not. Fantastic movie.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsTom CruiseNicole KidmanTodd FieldA Manhattan doctor embarks on a bizarre, night-long odyssey after his wife's admission of unfulfilled longing. The last film by Stanley Kubrick. As usual masterful and brilliant. I lvoe the way the character played by Tom Cruise is getting deeper into the unknown of a secret society and how it ends affecting his entire life. My favorite scene is the "post-pot" discussion, when Nicole Kidman develops one of the greatest performaces in all Kubrick's films.
- DirectorEdward ZwickStarsLeonardo DiCaprioDjimon HounsouJennifer ConnellyA fisherman, a smuggler, and a syndicate of businessmen match wits over the possession of a priceless diamond.Another masterful performance by Leonardo Di Caprio and Jeniffer Conelly. A journey through forests, violence and dangers to retrieve a pink diamond which I believe is the pure representation of greed itself.
- DirectorMatthew ChapmanStarsCharlie HunnamTerrence HowardPatrick WilsonA police officer looks to talk down a young man lured by his lover's husband to the ledge of a high rise, where he has one hour to contemplate a fateful decision.Well, this is a fantastic portrayal about how religious people are a danger to society. It depicts perfectly how this mental illness called "faith" can lead anybody to do anything and believe is justified by carefully selecting which passages of that book called "bible" will support they own destructive ideas. This time the Christian guy decides he is an 'old testament' guy. Despite the supposed message of love from Horus 2.0 (best known as Jesus), he picked some lines from the old testament to justify the killing and the suffering of others who have a different point of view.
- DirectorLars von TrierStarsKirsten DunstCharlotte GainsbourgKiefer SutherlandTwo sisters find their already strained relationship challenged as a mysterious new planet threatens to collide with Earth.A wedding and a funeral for everybody. There are some interesting sequences at the very beggining, which for me were kind of abstract/surrealist... really beautiful. The photography is exceptional and though the story revolves again and again into the same subjects and the pace is quite slow, I find this movie really good. I think this is Lars von Trier at his best.
- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsJames StewartKim NovakBarbara Bel GeddesA former San Francisco police detective juggles wrestling with his personal demons and becoming obsessed with the hauntingly beautiful woman he has been hired to trail, who may be deeply disturbed.
- DirectorLee UnkrichStarsTom HanksTim AllenJoan CusackThe toys are mistakenly delivered to a day-care center instead of the attic right before Andy leaves for college, and it's up to Woody to convince the other toys that they weren't abandoned and to return home.A very cute and nice movie. Not every fluffy teddy bear is going to be nice to you. If you ever had a toy during your childhood, this movie for sure is going to take a tear off you.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHarrison FordKate CapshawKe Huy QuanIn 1935, Indiana Jones is tasked by Indian villagers with reclaiming a rock stolen from them by a secret cult beneath the catacombs of an ancient palace. From the whole Indiana Jones saga, this is by far my favorite specially because the central theme is not about mythological cristian religious objects. Fantastic pace and very well directed.
- DirectorPaul McGuiganStarsJosh HartnettBen KingsleyMorgan FreemanA case of mistaken identity lands Slevin into the middle of a war being plotted by two of the city's most rival crime bosses. Under constant surveillance by Detective Brikowski and assassin Goodkat, he must get them before they get him.
- DirectorAndrzej BartkowiakStarsKarl UrbanRosamund PikeDwayne JohnsonSpace Marines are sent to investigate strange events at a research facility on Mars but find themselves at the mercy of genetically enhanced killing machines. This movie is FANTASTIC! I love the videogame and I love the fact the movie is not an exact adaptation of it! If I'd want to see a 100% accuracy for Doom, I play the game, so no complaints about it. Obviously this is not an 'art-cult film' but it delivers what it has to deliver.
Secondly, the timing and pacing of the movie is brilliant. They're no wasting time in silly chat, there's some monsters that must be killed and about at 10 minutes the soldiers (mercenaries, whatever) are doing their job.
The production is truly great. It is not just a lot of bullets being fired for no reason. There's a secondary plot integrated to the movie but it is not taking a lot of space from the main plot. The lighting is good and 'The Rock' did a really great job as 'Sarge'. I'd love to see a second part for this one. - DirectorJ.J. AbramsStarsChris PineZachary QuintoZoe SaldanaAfter the crew of the Enterprise find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one-man weapon of mass destruction.
- DirectorRobert ZemeckisStarsMichael J. FoxChristopher LloydLea ThompsonMarty McFly, a 17-year-old high school student, is accidentally sent 30 years into the past in a time-traveling DeLorean invented by his close friend, the maverick scientist Doc Brown.
- DirectorRidley ScottStarsHarrison FordRutger HauerSean YoungA blade runner must pursue and terminate four replicants who stole a ship in space and have returned to Earth to find their creator.
- DirectorMichael LanderStarsCillian MurphyElliot PageSusan SarandonA train accident in rural Nebraska gradually unveils a mystery involving the town's bank clerk.Brilliant! Cillian Murphy just did an stunning job. His performance playing as two different personalities inside the same body is fantastic. The story is powerful and despite there are one thing or two that I would change, is a must-see film.
- DirectorJuan José CampanellaStarsRicardo DarínSoledad VillamilPablo RagoA retired legal counselor writes a novel hoping to find closure for one of his past unresolved homicide cases and for his unreciprocated love with his superior - both of which still haunt him decades later.I usually avoid movies in spanish, the vast majority of them seems to me boring but I gave it a try to this one, and turned out to be pretty good!
- DirectorRobert SchwentkeStarsJodie FosterPeter SarsgaardSean BeanA bereaved woman and her daughter are flying home from Berlin to America. At 30,000 feet, the child vanishes, and nobody will admit she was ever on the plane.I was quite exceptical when I started to see this movie, but the idea of a women who lost his daughter in the middle of a flight, makes you wonder the whole time if she invented the idea of having a child or if there is something else behind. Very good.
- DirectorJoss WhedonStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansScarlett JohanssonEarth's mightiest heroes must come together and learn to fight as a team if they are going to stop the mischievous Loki and his alien army from enslaving humanity.
- DirectorLen WisemanStarsBruce WillisJustin LongTimothy OlyphantJohn McClane and a young hacker join forces to take down master cyber-terrorist Thomas Gabriel in Washington D.C.Bruce Willis shows that still he can perform very well as action hero. The direction is exceptional and though I was expecting a final a bit more bloody is in my opinnion the best movie in the Die Hard sequence.
- DirectorJohn LasseterBradford LewisStarsOwen WilsonLarry the Cable GuyMichael CaineStar race car Lightning McQueen and his pal Mater head overseas to compete in the World Grand Prix race. But the road to the championship becomes rocky as Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage.Great movie. I like the fact that this time PIXAR decided to move a little away from the exclusive child targeret movie and explore topics for older people. Technically is a trully masterpiece and the story as usual is well developed and paced.
- DirectorAlejandro AmenábarStarsNicole KidmanChristopher EcclestonFionnula FlanaganIn 1945, immediately following the end of Second World War, a woman who lives with her two photosensitive children on her darkened old family estate in the Channel Islands becomes convinced that the home is haunted.I remember when I finished to watch this film, to find myself asking if I was alive or just that what I was seeing my entire life was an illusion made by the fear of facing the truth of death. Very powerful story and Nicole Kidman doing a fantastic job. Brilliant!
- DirectorFrancis LawrenceStarsWill SmithAlice BragaCharlie TahanYears after a plague kills most of humanity and transforms the rest into monsters, the sole survivor in New York City struggles valiantly to find a cure.I was really surprised by Will Smith's performance here. A very fine movie. The story is far from being an original one, but the way the story is developed is pretty good, and I think that is the key aspect in any film to be considerer great or brilliant.
- DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsMarlon BrandoAl PacinoJames CaanThe aging patriarch of an organized crime dynasty transfers control of his clandestine empire to his reluctant son.
- DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsAl PacinoRobert De NiroRobert DuvallThe early life and career of Vito Corleone in 1920s New York City is portrayed, while his son, Michael, expands and tightens his grip on the family crime syndicate.
- DirectorMark OsborneJohn StevensonStarsJack BlackIan McShaneAngelina JolieTo everyone's surprise, including his own, Po, an overweight, clumsy panda, is chosen as protector of the Valley of Peace. His suitability will soon be tested as the valley's arch-enemy is on his way. This film was a pleasant surprise for me, as I was expecting to see another disastrous movie as DreamWorks used to did with movies like Flushed Away, Bee Movie and Shark Tale. Kung Fu Panda has a lot of visual and story elements that make it a jewel of animation. Very funny movie.
- 19641h 35mPG8.4 (519K)97MetascoreDirectorStanley KubrickStarsPeter SellersGeorge C. ScottSterling HaydenAn unhinged American general orders a bombing attack on the Soviet Union, triggering a path to nuclear holocaust that a war room full of politicians and generals frantically tries to stop."You can't fight in here! This is the war room!" That's one of my favorite lines in history of cinema. An absolutely funny movie about a very serious matter. Stanley Kubrick showed why he is the man!
- DirectorJoseph RubenStarsDennis QuaidMax von SydowChristopher PlummerA man who can enter and manipulate people's dreams is recruited by a government agency to help cure the President of the United States of his nightmares about nuclear war but stumbles upon an assassination plot. This is the original Inception. Now, I am not saying Inception is a remake of this movie, nevertheless Dreamscape was the first movie which depicted the idea of getting inside people minds in order to control they actions in the real world. So, if you think that Inception is extremely original, think again and give this movie a try. Fantastic film.
- DirectorM. Night ShyamalanStarsBruce WillisHaley Joel OsmentToni ColletteMalcolm Crowe, a child psychologist, starts treating a young boy, Cole, who encounters dead people and convinces him to help them. In turn, Cole helps Malcolm reconcile with his estranged wife. When you think that you got this movie right, think again. The story twists in a manner I never experienced before. Fantastic performance by Bruce Willis.
- DirectorLudwig BergerMichael PowellTim WhelanStarsConrad VeidtSabuJune DuprezAfter being tricked and cast out of Bagdad by the evil Jaffar, King Ahmad joins forces with a thief named Abu to reclaim his throne, the city, and the Princess he loves.Another classic, special effects are just wonderful. I think I'll enjoy rewatching this over and over again. The characters are strong and the story is really powerful.
- DirectorTaylor HackfordStarsJamie FoxxRegina KingKerry WashingtonThe story of the life and career of the legendary rhythm and blues musician Ray Charles, from his humble beginnings in the South, where he went blind at age seven, to his meteoric rise to stardom during the 1950s and 1960s.
- DirectorWolfgang PetersenStarsNoah HathawayBarret OliverTami StronachA troubled boy dives into a wondrous fantasy world through the pages of a mysterious book.I grew up watching this film and I really like it. The fantasy characters are really detailed and even today about 27 years after it's premiere, they seem pretty good, even with all the new CG state-of-the-art techniques. I must-see film for sure.
- DirectorGuy RitchieStarsJason StathamBrad PittStephen GrahamUnscrupulous boxing promoters, violent bookmakers, a Russian gangster, incompetent amateur robbers and supposedly Jewish jewelers fight to track down a priceless stolen diamond.
- DirectorMarc ForsterStarsEwan McGregorNaomi WattsRyan GoslingA psychiatrist attempts to prevent one of his patients from committing suicide while trying to maintain his own grip on reality.
- DirectorBrad BirdJan PinkavaStarsBrad GarrettLou RomanoPatton OswaltA rat who can cook makes an unusual alliance with a young kitchen worker at a famous Paris restaurant.
- DirectorJohn FrankenheimerStarsJames GarnerEva Marie SaintYves MontandAmerican Grand Prix driver Pete Aron is fired by his Jordan-BRM racing team after a crash at Monaco that injures his British teammate, Scott Stoddard. This movie is highly recommended for motorsport fans, specially Formula One fans. It has some of the best images from the gold era in F1. Additionally has a good story and structure behind the merely speed takes. And the end of the movie, was something I never ever expected to happen. Very good movie.
- DirectorKenneth BranaghStarsChris HemsworthAnthony HopkinsNatalie PortmanThe powerful but arrogant god Thor is cast out of Asgard to live amongst humans in Midgard (Earth), where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders.Another impecable production from Marvel Studios. The story is powerful, the acting is very good and the love story beside the main plot is managed very carefully so is a fantastic complement.
- DirectorGuillermo ArriagaStarsCharlize TheronJohn CorbettJosé María YazpikA drama with a two-tiered storyline concerning a mother and daughter who try to form a bond after the young woman's difficult childhood.
- DirectorJames McTeigueStarsHugo WeavingNatalie PortmanRupert GravesIn a future British dystopian society, a shadowy freedom fighter, known only by the alias of "V", plots to overthrow the tyrannical government - with the help of a young woman.Another fantastic performance by Natalie Portman. In my oppinion her acting here is even better than in Black Swan. The story is powerful and makes you think. Great movie.
- DirectorAntoine FuquaStarsDenzel WashingtonEthan HawkeScott GlennA rookie cop spends his first day as a Los Angeles narcotics officer with a rogue detective who isn't what he appears to be.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsMatthew ModineR. Lee ErmeyVincent D'OnofrioA pragmatic U.S. Marine observes the dehumanizing effects the Vietnam War has on his fellow recruits from their brutal boot camp training to the bloody street fighting in Hue.Though this is a great movie, I think is a bit overrated and honestly I just LOVE the first act. Once the soldiers move into Vietnam the movie losses a lot of strenght. Anyway, another fantastic movie from Stanley Kubrick.
