- Insurance agent Ben Grover stumbles onto a lucrative scam his bosses are using to steal from the company. Before he acts on it, an assassin is used to take him out, but they manage to only kill his wife instead. Grover then turns the tables seeking a deadly revenge.
- We meet Matt Crane Stevens (Scott Graham) and Liz Forsythe (Floy Dean) whom have a date in a coffee house. Matt has just pledge his love for Liz which surprises her since they have only been dating for 45 days. Matt says that he would like to make plans for the two of them to get married. Liz feels he is moving things too quickly. The next day Matt is talking with his colleague, Walter Reynolds (Michael T. Mikler) at the office about his relationship with Liz. Matt does not understand why Liz is being so hesitant to move things along more seriously. After work, Walter arrives to his home with Ann Reynolds (Lee Meriwether) in Queens Point. Ann is preparing for their dinner party with Liz, Dan and their friends the Garret's Dr. Dan (Paul Picerni) and Susan (Peggy McCay). Ann asks Walter how Buckley liked his latest sketches, where Ann is the model. Walter feels Buckley has something up his sleeve which worries Ann. Once Susan and Dan arrives, Walter instructs them all that they need to show married life as a good thing to help Matt win his case with Liz. In the kitchen Ann admits to Susan that her fragile personality is getting the best of her as Walter's model and she fears his company will not Walter to continue using her. At the dinner party, Matt continues to pressure Liz about marriage. Liz tells Matt that she int so keen about marriage since her parents marriage ended in divorce. Matt explains to Liz that all marriages take work. Matt continues his plight and Liz finally gives in and says she will marry him.
- Matt stops over to his parents home to hear what they thought about Liz. Meanwhile, at Irene's Irene and Liz are preparing the cocktails for prior to going out to dinner with Henry and Matt. Irene starts in on the two of them being impulsive. Henry arrives and meets Matt for the first time. Mady and Theo discuss Liz and Matt among themselves. At dinner Henry is a little hard on Matt and it appears like Matt is being interviewed. After dinner at Irene's, Henry says he approves of the engagement which shocks Irene. Matt pressures Liz to set a wedding date.
- Liz and Irene have breakfast together and Liz tells Irene that she met Matt's parents and that they are very happy about the engagement. Irene tells Liz to expect a call from Henry. Henry would like to meet up with Liz and Matt and have Irene along as well. Susan meets up with Dan at General Hospital and they discuss about getting pregnant again. Dan knowing it is unlikely that Susan will carry to full term is against it and Susan wants to try again. Liz meets Henry for lunch. Henry apologizes for not being a better father to her. Liz then asks if he can have dinner with her, Matt and Irene.
- Matt drives Liz home after the dinner party. Once they are at Liz's, Matt says they should tell her mother, Irene about their engagement. Liz is adamant that she will tell Irene, not the both of them. Irene (Irene Hervey) asks Liz how her night was. Liz tells Irene that she and Matt went into Queens Point to have dinner at the Reynolds home. Irene inquires about Matt and tells Liz that she is young and needs to date several men and not settle down at this point in her life. In the morning Liz tells Irene that she and Matt are engaged. Irene is not happy and points out that Liz and Matt have not known each other for very long and that marriage is a lifetime commitment. Irene advises Liz to have lunch with her father, Henry (Walter Brooke) and let him know what is going on. After Liz leaves for work, Irene calls Henry to let him know what is going on. At lunch Liz asks Henry why he and Irene got a divorce, so she won't make the same mistakes with her marriage to Matt. After lunch, Henry stops over at Irene's and they discuss the situation. Irene has no intention of allowing Liz to make a mistake.
- Walter shows his boss, Phillip Buckley (Dennis Patrick) his latest sketches for Longworth Textiles. Buckley tells Walter that the sketches are great, but the client wants to use another model instead of Ann. Buckley tells Walter the ads are for a college age girl and Ann is too old. Longworth Textiles wants to use someone new and Ann has been the Walter Reynolds model now for 5 years. When Walter comes home to work in the studio Ann says she was worried that Buckley was holding back the contract was because of her. Walter tells her that is absurd. Matt's parents, Mady (Maria Palmer) and Theo (Donald Randolph) prepare their meeting Liz for the first time. Theo makes Mady promise not to tell Matt anything about his latest doctors appointment. When Matt tells Mady and Theo that he and Liz are engaged they are thrilled.
- Liz sets the date of the wedding for the Saturday before Christmas. Matt and Liz begin discussing what kind of wedding they would Like. While Ann is posing for Walter she presses him as to why they are redoing the sketches, but Walter is quite evasive. Irene is angry with Henry making her look like the domineering mother regarding Liz getting married and that Henry is trying to make up for him being an absentee father for most of Liz's life. When Liz gets home she and Matt tell Irene that they have set a wedding date. Irene needles Liz later that Matt seems to be making all the decisions. Walter sees that Ann is looking tired so they decide to call it a night and continue in the morning.
- Ann drops over to Susan's home for a cup of coffee. Ann confides that she believes Walter is having issues with the Empire textiles account and it may be because of her as the model for their ads. Susan confides in Ann that she may be pregnant and worried because the last two times she was unable to carry the baby to full term. The phone rings and it is Walter asking Ann to come home and get back to work. Walter knowing that Buckley wants a college girl as the model has a hard time getting things right with Ann and begins snapping at her. Ann is at loose ends and begins to cry. Walter apologizes to Ann and lets he know she is his everything. Dan's aunt Alex (Sara Taft) drops in at the garret home. Alex asks Susan why it was so important that she had lunch with Dan the day before. Susan explains to Alex that she had an appointment with her Obgyn and did not want to run into Dan at General Hospital. Susan tells Alex she thinks she may be pregnant. Susan says she does not want to tell Dan until she is completely sure. Dan arrives home and is surprised to find Aunt Alex there and asks what they have been talking about.
- The next morning at breakfast Liz shows Irene the ring that the Stevens family gave her. Irene informs Liz that she will need to get used to the customs of Matt's family. Liz lets Irene know that once she is married, Matt does not want her to be working. Susan makes an appointment with Dr. Alma Ann Morrison), an Obgyn. Susan and Alma discuss how difficult it has been for Susan to carry a baby to full term. Susan points out that 12 years ago she was able to have a child. Alma says that was with another man and she was much younger. That evening Matt arrives at Irene's to take Liz out to dinner and go apartment hunting.
- Matt and Henry meet up for lunch. Henry apologizes if he was too difficult with Matt the night before. Henry tells Matt he asked so many questions to see how he answered, not what he answered. Henry tells Matt that he handled himself very nicely. Henry is in favor of the marriage and feels that Matt and Liz will be good for each other. Henry tells Matt that Irene is not in favor of the marriage. Mady and Theo prepare for the evening with Matt and Liz. Theo tells Mady that she needs to let him do more around the house even though his vision is failing. Theo is adamant that Matt not be told about Theo's vision problems. The discussion at the dinner party is whether Liz should continue working once they are married at the firm that she and Matt work at. Theo presents Liz a family heirloom; a ring that Matt can give Liz for the engagement. Henry stops over to visit Irene and tell her about his lunch with Matt. Irene is not surprised nor mad when Henry says he told Matt that he is for the marriage and that Irene is not.
- Dan stops by to play catch up with Walter at his studio. Liz is going through the newspaper to find an apartment. Irene advises her that she cannot be invisible with Matt and that she needs to help make decisions. Ann (now played by Susan Brown) arrives home from the beauty parlor with a new look. Ann's hair is up-swept to look like a Gibson Girl. Walter is not pleased at first until Ann tells Walter that it is part of an idea for the sketches with Empire Textiles. The plan is going from behind the times to modern times. Walter is excited and realizes Ann does not look like the "Walter Reynolds girl" and just may work. Walter is excited and believes Buckley will be as well. Matt shows up at Irene's and tells her and Liz that he has a surprise about where he and Liz may live. Irene assures Matt that women do not like surprises where living is concerned. Matt meets Dan for a drink. Dan tells Matt that he may have found a home available in Queens Point that may be in Matt's budget.
- At breakfast Ann reminds Walter that today is the day they find out if Empire Textiles approves the new sketches. Walter is very optimistic that it will be a go; Ann not so much. Buckley informs Walter that the sketches are great and that they will use the...someday. Buckley tells Walter that Empire Textiles wants to continue with him and a new model. Ann goes over to Susan's to give her a manicure. Susan talks about possibly being pregnant and Ann talks about Empire Textiles. Matt meets Walter for lunch and Walter tells him about the sketches and Ann not being chosen as the model for Empire. Once Walter gets home he cannot bring himself to tell Ann the truth, so he says Buckley is still thinking about his decision.
- When Walter arrives in Matt's office to show him the sketches, Matt tells Walter that he and Liz had an argument the night before. Walter hears the story and tells Matt not to surprise Liz in the future about anything; they like to be in on the loop. Dan tells Walter about the home in Queens Point. Walter shows Buckley the new sketches and idea. Buckley likes them, but not for the new campaign. Buckley says they are interested in a new model, Carol West. Buckley however will show the sketches at the next meeting with Empire Textiles. Liz shows up in Matt's office and they patch up their differences from the night before. Matt plans on taking Liz to see the home that afternoon. Dan meets Walter for lunch and Walter says he is not sure the new sketches will get approved and that will destroy Ann. Matt shows Liz the home and she loves it. Matt says that if they get it they will have to move up the wedding date because the owner wants to sell it now.
- While looking through magazine for ideas about decorating, Liz asks Irene about what it was like when Irene and Henry were first married. Matt pleads his case with Henry , why buying a house is important. Henry tells Matt and Liz that he wants to buy the home for them. Matt rejects Henry's offer. Irene is infuriated with Henry's offer. Henry asks Irene to stop interfering with Matt and Liz. Irene thinks that Henry approves of the marriage because of all the years he was an absentee father to Liz.
- Liz tells Irene about the home in Queens Point that Matt took her to see. Irene is livid when Liz says that Matt thinks it is a good idea to push the wedding day sooner. Theo gets an eye examination from Dan and Dan informs him he needs to get the cataracts removed. Dan feels though that there is something more serious going on. Dan sets an appointment for Theo with a specialist. Theo and Mady discuss how happy they are with Liz while waiting for a long distance call from their other son, Paul (Michael Stefani). Paul finally calls and tells his folks that he is leaving Austria and coming home.
- Matt and Liz pick their new wedding date. Matt is worried how Irene will take the news. Irene comes home in a bad mood from her evening with Henry and finds Liz and Matt. Liz and Matt tell Irene they are getting married in two weeks. Irene is not happy at all. Liz begins feeling bad for Irene and feels like she is deserting her. The next day Irene visits Henry at his office. Henry apologizes for being so rough with her the previous night. Irene tells Henry the wedding is in two weeks. Henry did not expect it to be so soon. Matt meets Walter for lunch and tells him the change in the wedding date. Matt is surprised that Walter has not told Ann the news about her being replaced with Carol West.
- Dan advises Theo that after looking at the specialist report the surgery for the cataract removal has to happen sooner than later. Theo says that he does not want the surgery until after Matt and Liz's wedding. Dr. Alma lets Susan know that she is expecting and has to be very careful with her body as well as her mind. Susan is thrilled and promises to take good care of herself. Susan goes up to Dan's office and tells him the news. Dan is both delighted and stunned. Dr. Alma advises Dan to keep an eye on Susan and he senses or sees anything wrong to alert her.
- Dan explains the eye procedure that Theo needs to Matt. Dan advises because of Theo's age time is of the essence and sooner the better. Matt says that is why he has pushed up the date, but Irene is giving them a hard time. Dan asks Matt why he has not told Liz and Irene about Theo Matt says that he promised his father and mother that he would keep it to himself. . Irene is still giving Liz a hard time about moving up the date of the wedding. Susan stops by Dan's office to tell him about her going away party and show him the gifts the children made for her. Matt tells his mother Mady how important it is for Theo to have the operation soon. Mady explains that they wanted to wait until after the wedding. Liz is pressuring Matt that they go with the original wedding date and Matt tells her that is impossible.
- Dan and Susan spend the evening alone. Dan brings up Susan's first husband and the baby they had together named Jerry. Dan asks if the delivery was healthy and that Jerry was a healthy baby. Susan very uncomfortable about the conversation steers it away when she remembers the horrible automobile accident they were in where only Susan survived. The doorbell rings and Dan goes to answer it and finds Walter. Dan and Susan tell Walter that they are expecting a baby in the Spring. Walter is thrilled. Walter then proceeds to tell them both that the magazines he did sketches for is coming out next week. The problem is that Ann will not be featured as the model and Walter has not told Ann yet. Dan advises Walter that a marriage based on lies is nothing. Susan cringes when she hears this. Dan advises Walter he has to tell Ann before the magazine comes out. Susan and Ann get ready to go shopping and Ann says that Walter has been acting odd lately. Later on Ann drops in on Walter. Walter tries to no avail hide the sketches, but Ann sees them. Ann points out that the model is wearing the same dress that Ann wore in the previous sketches. Walter is busted and tells Ann that Empire decided that Ann was to related as the Reynolds girl and wanted to go in another direction. Ann replies that what Walter means is young. Walter says that the magazine will be coming soon and Ann will not be the model. Ann is devastated.
- Dan comes home to Susan putting a blanket over Ann. Susan tells Dan that Ann mixed pills and booze and passed out that afternoon. Once Ann wakes up she apologizes to both Dan and Susan. Walter arrives on the scene and escorts Ann home. Once home Ann apologizes for her behavior that day with the new model, Carol. Eventually Ann starts in again on Walter wanting a younger model and of course Walter denies it. The next day Ann drops over to Susan's and apologizes for the day before and tells Susan that she is pounding the pavement to see if she can make some new modeling contacts.
- Walter and Ann have a long conversation about Walter being forced to use a new model, Carol West. Ann appears to have resigned from the fact that she may no longer be modeling for Walter. Ann just wishes that Walter had told her sooner. Ann feels they have ht a snag in their marriage because of Walter not feeling comfortable to tell Ann. Walter says he was hoping he could change Buckley's mind. Liz meets her father, Henry for lunch. Liz asks about her parents marriage and Henry takes that as Liz maybe having cold feet. Liz assures that is not the case, just that the night before Matt seemed to be a million miles away emotionally. Henry says that sometimes space is needed..
- While home, Irene is going through some paperwork and Liz is opening up some bridal gifts. Irene complains about the wedding being so soon and that she saw the perfect wedding dress for a Spring wedding. Liz says she is fine with wearing her tweed suit. Acting as Matt's lawyer, Liz's father Henry has Matt sign the final papers for their new home. Matt admits to Henry the reason why he pushed up the wedding. Henry is surprised that Matt has not told Liz and advises he do so soon. It is not good to start out a marriage with a secret over his head. Liz is at the Stevens home as Theo and Mady prepare to go to the airport to pick up Paul. Matt visits Irene at Halstead's and asks her if she would please come to the wedding. Later that day Irene stops in to visit Henry and thinks that maybe the two of them should buy the house and as a wedding gift give to Matt and Liz. Henry laughs and says he already tried that and Matt declined. That evening at the Steven's waiting for May and Theo to arrive home after picking up Paul, Matt tells Liz about his visit with Irene and finally tells Liz about the surgery Theo needs. Mady rushes in the house and tells Matt and Liz that there has been an accident.
- The wedding day has arrived for Matt and Liz. Everyone is there. Walter and Ann are bickering about her drinking. Paul not realizing that Ann is Walter's wife flirts with her and is quite smitten. While Liz is changing she and Irene have a tender moment. Walter and Ann are leaving and run into Paul. Walter introduces Ann to Paul as his wife and Paul is taken aback.
