- Growing up poor, Diana (Pokwang) desires to finish her studies to give her family a bright future. But her parents think otherwise, believing marrying a man from a family of farmers would give her a comfortable life. This pushed Diana to leave her family and try her luck in Manila where she worked as a helper. Her employers instantly noticed her dedication and helped her finish college. - Amy (25) grows up in a family that frequently treated her badly. When she becomes a mother she vows to protect her children and ensure they never suffer like her. When she confronts Amy about the lies, Amy becomes hurt that Nelia would even believe the rumors. Unsatisfied with Amy's answers Nelia loses her motivation to do anything, and starts seeing her sacrifices as being done in vain. After a while the two reconcile, with the knowledge that mother and daughter have helped each other get so far, and continue to work together to achieve their dreams.
- Hidilyn (14) belongs to a poor family in Zamboanga City. Her childhood is filled with days of enduring a half-empty stomach. The worst of it is she feels that she never gets the attention and love she needed to get through her family's struggles. Her parents and siblings are always out, and she feels alone even when they are around. In 2002, she discovers weight lifting when she is roaming around the neighborhood and finds her cousins lifting branches of wood - they are being trained for an upcoming competition. She invites herself to their training sessions and she becomes addicted to the sport. Years pass, Hidilyn is able to compete locally and internationally, but still feels underwhelmed especially when she comes home because her parents and siblings don't seem to give her the affection that she craves for her entire life. They are only interested in what she bought for them from her out of town and country trips. Hidilyn feels sad because other people have started to recognize her for her outstanding skill in weight lifting, but to her family. In 2014, life becomes more difficult for Hidilyn (24). She experiences a series of misfortunes, including getting an injury, her coach being fired, being unable to compete for the ASEAN, and breaking up with her boyfriend. When she goes home that year, she does expect any sympathy from her family. However, they ask her how she is and her mother sheds tears because of what she is going through. She feels their love for the first time. From then on, it is Hidilyn who initiates a family bonding. Hidilyn has become sure of one thing: she would not wait for her family to express their love, she would also instead make an effort to express that love to her family.
